Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he looks into this "low power" complaint on this Nissan Frontier Pickup. We also get to bust out the Pico Scope to aid us in our diagnostic and learn how it can tell if the exhaust is plugged.

Nissan NP200 no current on the coil, injectors., almost every socket on the car. Can you help?
Clearly The Cat or Cats are plugged , The Rattle is the guts of one of the cats.
Defenitly clogged Cat nice Diag Eric O she just can't breath and pass its gas 😬🤣 @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
That part under the exhaust manifold is NOT the CONVERTER…that is the SPARK ARRESTER…CATALYTIC CONVERTER is further down the exhaust pipe with the 02 sensor
My first view of your channel. Thank you so very much for showing me how things are done these days.
How much is that diagnostic computer. That thing is sweet!!
If you get 440 degrees in front of front cat, and 440 degrees behind front cat; does it need a catylitic.

I just starte4d watchina g your videos recently. I am 75 years old and my very first car was a 1955 Chevy with a 265 V8 which burned oil so In decided to tear the engine apart and relace the rings. I got most of my tools from Sears and parts by mail from J C Whitney catalogs. In 1963 that was the equal to Amazon today for cars and truck parts. I got it done and all reaasmbled but Im ended up with 2 bolts left over. Not a clue where from. The car ran well for a while but then started to burn oil again. So I took everything apart again and found out that I left the 2 bolts off the main bearing cap on the crankahaft. Solved the mystery of the 2 extra bolts. I enjoy watching auto repair videos but the electronics lose me.
Keep up the good videos Pete
If my 07 Frontier exhibits the same symptoms can I check the exhaust temps as my baseline. I don't have diagnostic equipment.
Interesting to see what goes into troubleshooting modern cars.
This is exactly what you tube should not allow. Too much talk however; no evident results to prove the truck was properly diagnosed. In my opinion, This video did not show or better said will not help anyone. One of the things we look on these videos is precisely how to do it ourselves basis.
Didn’t know you could get a 4 in a frontier, I have the Xterra with the V6 , 05 with 127000 miles, no problems so far
It's a japanese toy truck… That's why it has no power.
good
Hi im rene beers i like the way u work can u give us an advise how to do test old school u dont have to do it just let us know how u will do it without tek tool
Thanks helped me diagnose a 17 frontier with p0304 same problem
Love watching a true genius
This guy does great videos so give him a thumbs up
time 2 buy a vehicle with 6 or 8 cylinders lol
dip stick was broke n holding flap in oil pump tube open
than had a caddy with oil pressure truble chilton manel said broken pump or out of oil
once i had a fiero n a chiltions said on hard starting check butterfly choke in carb hell it had efi
some of the best work ive seen
The orange radio and info center. Eww! Who could drive around staring at that all the time. Even the old 'everything is green' dashboards of the 70s is better than that. Friend had a Firebird or some lame sporty car with all red on the lighting, it was like battle stations in a submarine. I like Chrysler's white dashboards.
All Nissans are 14mm spark plugs.
I like to use my 02 adapter and a vacuum gauge to read exhaust pressure, besides intake pressure and MAF data. This is an old video, but lets bring it back up. 🙂
i thought i knew a lot about cars till i started watching you. you're very good
👍Scotty Kilmer had a clogged converter & soaked it for 24 hours in either acetone or lacquer thinner 5 gal bucket then reinstalled w/ no issues.
Any thoughts?
You diagnosed it the hard way. Just unscrew the O2 sensor in front of the cat to give the exhaust a place to go. It will run normally. Replace it with a $100 cat from ebay, done. I'm so glad I live in a state that has no vehicle inspection. What a bunch of crap that is to have to deal with. In this guys case, he should repair the cat himself. Takes the heat off the repair shops who have to follow all those rules.
What in the thunder is that rattling, it's driving me nuts!
The cat plugged up on a Chevy S-10 suddenly and it wouldn't Rev beyond 2k, I unbolted the exhaust on the side of the road and drove it home dragster style, then bought another replacement cat and welded it in. They can plug up suddenly.
Thumbs up for explanation.
Put a straight pipe on that baby ,make it sound like a six banger, glad I live in a free state.
This is why I only drive older cars…to many sensors in top of sensors .. I like the ability to look at a engine..and figure it out…I would need 6 years of computer automotive classes to work on these new cars cuz I couldn't understand any of that computer stuffs
A pickup with 4 cylinders is like a man with 1 ball worthless.
Drill a hole through the honeycomb
Did anyone see what it looks like cracked weld at 17.20 bottom right?
Good video thank you for sharing
I really enjoy this channel.
I absolutely LOVE how you make your decisions based upon data! You are the best automotive tech I've seen. I WISH ALL automotive techs had your level of professionalism and data-driven decision making processes. From now on I'm going to request factual proof from any auto tech looking at my car before approving any repair. From your videos, it's clear the data can be provided.
You know what I would love to see from you? A collection of videos where you publish known automotive issues and how to identify them based upon the OBD2 or CAN bus data. Please please please do something like that!
What should the pressure reading be normally at idle and 3000 rpm?
I had the same thing happen and I ran a bar through it at home and the car had more acceleration than when new. This poor guy just lost his vehicle that could be corrected with a tiny forging furnace that will run up to around 800 to 900° with oxygen softly flowing through it for about 50 to 100 bucks just because it needs taken off and would then work perfectly and pass fed law.
Had to replace all four of my converters on my 07 pathfinder ,it did almost the same thing !
Sounds like a plugged exhaust or a messed up egr valve and what's that rattling
Before you even tested it I figured that's what it was.. I have a v6 pathfinder of the same era and I have replaced…. All.. 4.. catalytic converters (with cheap ass ones that'll probably only last a few years). Those O2 and AFR's are actually pretty stout on these. I took mine off about 5 times and it was tough the first time but not horrible.
That's a lot of wasted Diag for a clogged cat. Next time take your truck to the dealer and save some money. A simple test drive from a professional, will identify an exhaust restriction. I hope he didn't charge the customer for all that fancy Diag.
the ol banna in the tailpipe trick .
