Come along with Eric & Ivan in this diagnosis as Ivan double checks Eric's original diagnosis on this 2008 Ford Escape 3.0 AWD. It turns out it is not always as simple as replacing the EVAP vent and calling it a day.

Lovely
I had a Ford dealership give me crap they didn't want to replace or Reprogramming on a Pats security model On a 05 Ford Excursion few years back I had to go to 5 different dealerships before 1 was willing to do it @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Good Diagnosis Eric O and Ivan Definitely a bad Pcm Driver @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Talk too much
Talk too much
P0445??
Hey Eric for slag burns or any first degree burn, i use oragel, as a former navy welder i can tell you its works
Another great video.
Also unless your checking fuses you shouldn’t be stabbing around with a test light, a fused meter would be much safer at least that’s what they taught in LMV industries classes. Then again this is just a Ford Escape. BMW or Mercedes big damage can be done. These guys are good tho, I need to learn how to use a scope. Not gonna act like I know how haha
I’ve def seen the pcm be the cause of this fault on some Audi’s in the past A6 and a TT, they didn’t believe me but I was right lol now I have a 06 ranger I’m looking at, I’m thinking it’s the same thing I’m gonna look again today.
Wouldn’t the purge solenoid have the same fueling symptom?
To much talk do it first
I have a vent problem with a Chevy Cruze it keeps open all the time you think is the pcm???? Or needs reprogram
Would this cause the bwttery to drain when parked?
Well well well
And that's why I keep my 1955 f100
Help me understand please. With the evap vent solenoid being normally open, I would expect that when voltage is applied that the vent would close. It appears that during the testing after the PCM was installed after the dealership reflashed it that Ivan was commanding the circuit on which was dropping voltage to 0. I'd expect that commanding the circuit on would result in voltage being applied and commanding off would remove voltage and result in the solenoid resuming its normally open position.
So when you want to hook a computer up upside down you have to hit the connection harder. Thanks. Still, aren't you tempted to examine the old PCM guts to see if the failure shows?
Always a good diagnostic. Thanks!
Hey guys I have a 2008 tribute I have replace both the purge and vent solenoids and the PCM and I still have the code P0446
Any other possibility
I would have loved to have seen you guys open that thing up and examine it.
Two cool dudes! Thanks!
Scary looking lift
Too much noise, in the shop
Good video l like it
awesome guys!
dude you're gonna make people fry their computers by grounding that test light and pluging it to one of the vent control valve connectors..
my two favorite car bros!
Oops! Old video. I really appreciated the interplay between mr brakecleen and ivan. What's wrong with going back to the gascap??
Much better billable items for service dept. income (similar to wallet flush). Now owners are sshush, it's a secret (BETA TESTING).
Second time watching 5/12/2020
So this is what I've got to look forward to on my problematic Mazda Tribute.
Thank you Eric! Hey Ivan I guess is not that easy to work with a pretty lady right next to you!!
last year my 2010 escape got a recall for a reason that could cause fumes in the car and they had to take out my back seats to get at something. now i wasn't having problems with the fumes before the fix but i have been ever since. the ford tech said i might be able to smell gas for a little bit then it would go away but it's been a year now, i really don't want to take it back to them because they seem to create problems and not fix any, any input at what i should look at? i should add i only smell fumes when i fill it past 3/4 of a tank, anything below that is fine.
Great video guys, yeah I know how those dealers are! I once had 2 new 2007 chevy 3500 plow trucks that would overheat in the plowing season, the dealer service rep. said we should take the plows off and carry them in the beds between parks, I checked with some guys on a site called BAT Auto and one guy sent me a service bulletin for the exact problem which gave me a list of parts needed which was a new fan clutch that took care of the problem, which was under warranty, now why couldn't the G.M dealer do this ? never trusted them again after that. I gave all of this information to the plow installer who said he had people complaining of the same problem and boy was he ever happy.
for the record, my favorite vids. to date is with Eric and Ivan.
Baloney sauce when all this pollution control devices disables a otherwise perfectly running vehicle.
Excellent video, I learned so much. AND a response from the king, FordTechMakuloco. You must rate pretty high Eric for Brian to be following you. GOOD JOB MAN!!! I'm also following Ivan now. That guy is SMART!!!
help me! 2011 ford escape p0455, can't complete drive cycle. had a p050b, p0442 will not complete. replaced fuel filler neck, purge valve, vent solenoid… been smoke tested, replaced bad 02 sensor bank 1 upstream, replaced MAF. I am so lost 858-204-0709
Is that lift very sturdy?
great video guys and i have learn lots from this video thank you from las vegas nv
More cooperation, less world troubles.Great video.
I wonder if the PCM, if you disassemble the outer case, is a 3 component system inside. Or three boards and other words. My curiosity is can you replace the middle board with the one out of the off-the-shelf used PCM? Assuming there is three boards as opposed to one board with three plugs.
Two artist at work.
Brake clean for stress, excellent! I used to make models for that before they added mustard oil. 🙂
Love learning more about bi-directional controlling
My problem was evap purge solenoid I would get quad driver fault code . This just means 1 of the 4 or more are bad . Using a vacuum pump should be able to find the culprit. After buying one of these junk pumps I found out they rent them to you at autozone for cheap. I fixed mine by getting an acdelco solenoid put on it all my lights stopped.Mine allows flow during like freeway . Otherwise it closed when parked in driveway. So there should be no flow between solenoid acts like a valve and it energized by pcm during non idle events . It like a check valve between engine purge canister and fuel tank . Store gas is sent to intake when purge solenoid energizes and opens a path between the purge canister and intake manifold Just follow the hose from the solenoid where it goes after the throttle body.
You guy did great work on this video thanks🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great video with full of trouble shooting knowledge…!! Thanks for posting this video and showing how to work through the diagnosis. If your shop was close to me, I would be bringing over my vehicles to be serviced.
You can buy the OASIS software from Ford, and reprogram it yourself
