Hey Ray, I really enjoy watching your videos. I typically don’t comment on any videos but I felt you deserved some appreciation for your hard work. I have read many comments trashing the way you do things and I completely disagree. Keep doing right by your customers. Lastly I have one request. I really like watching your videos in high resolution HD. Can you keep recording in the highest resolution possible for our viewing pleasure.

All those loud noises do not record. Everything is at the same volume. As for the truck ; it has just a fine covering of dust , very little rust. Even the stickers are still intact. It is like he only drives it around a warehouse or a dessert. No mud,no grime and the ball joints just fall off. Strange.
You should add the sound effect of "dun dun dahhhh" when you show the can of wonder cleaner!

I've had bad ball joints before at one point on almost every single car I've ever owned and the ONLY one I've that's actually separated was a Subaru. I'll NEVER own another one EVER and that's not the only reason why.

My first car was a 1964 Hillman Minx back in 1972, and the car had grease points all over the chassis and suspension, that was when you could do your own repairs, without a computer to tell whats wrong, happy days.
You can't just replace the joints , you have to replace BOTH arms?? Man thats whack!

Cotter pin? That’s a split pin in my country. Cotter pins go into a crank of some sort such as the pedal crank on the front sprocket of a bicycle. Love your videos and gives me more confidence to diy more often.
I started fixing cars in the 70s when everything was rear wheel drive and had spindles so I catch myself still saying spindle whether it's a spindle or a knuckle.
You got lucky there Ray. Did the same job on my buddies truck and the lower control arm bolts were seized and had to be cut out. We would cut them to about 60% of the way through then shear them off and use the nut to drive the broken bolt out. Also replacement bolts were expensive and unobtainium.

A few months ago, one of the ball joints broke on my dads Toyota Tacoma while driving down the road and it was a mess, it broke both ball joints and the cv axle.

A good honest mechanic would of tightened it down and charged 6hrs of labor and new parts and called it a day

Just being a home mechanic I never replaced the arms when the ball joints were bad. Your way would be much quicker and maybe almost the same price if you had to re-lace any of the bushings. Way cheaper on labor. Thank you you taught me something else.

Really enjoyed watching the front end work on the Ford, video was not long when it's fun to watch.
I used to get laughed at when I was a tech for setting the car on the ground before tightening the control arm bolts. Actually, I think the other tech was just too lazy to do it. He was also a kind of know it all anyways. It just makes sense to tighten them with the car on the ground as that's the position the car will be sitting at, and it won't twist the bushings or make them bind.

idk why you made it hard for yourself not marking the camber/caster bolts on the lower arms and also not tightening at ride height will 100% cause creaking you wouldn't believe how many noises i fixed just because the guy didn't tighten at ride height even my own fathers truck i did because i was lazy and could fix it whenever

I had a squeak for 6 months. I re greased every rear bushing, I wrapped the sleaave in teflon tape. I could not find the sqeak! Saw one youtube vid showing a squeaking ball! fixed. i had the rear apart 3 times to find the squeak. Ball joints didn't even have play. just no grease.
No wonder My body is worn out after a lifetime of tinkering with my cars and not having power tools like those!

These manufacturers just keep making parts more and more expensive. Just knock out the joint, put the new one in. It's getting to the point that you'd be better off building your own car from scratch.

Just curious Ray. Was replacing the the arms cheaper than pushing out the old ball joints and installing new, thus not having to remove the arms?

I was going to leave you a " you should have done it this way Comment " but hell I've been a mechanic in pgh for almost 30 years and I've learned everyone has a different way of doing things for the same result so thanks for bringing the field into a better light
A common misconception with that style of factory and some aftermarket ball joint, “non-greasable” isn’t actually non-greasable, or already loaded with sufficient grease, I use a grease gun attachment that has a needle that goes into any boot and loads grease. Cheap and very good tool to have to reduce wear and warranty on parts replaced with “lifetime” warranty

The upper control arms would’ve still come out without removing the strut, extra work but I guess if the strut needed replacing then it’s all good
