In this video I have a go at a car with the new Snap-On Triton D8 Scan tool. It uses a feature called intelligent diagnostics that help guide a mechanic through the diagnostic process. Being that this is my first time even looking at this loaner tool I can not make a fair assessment if I like it or not. Also as I mention in the video this is not a "review" video. It's simply my playing with a loaner toy and you get to watch and see some of the features it has to offer. -Enjoy!

They are 6k I like mine alot.
The more information you have the beter that tool has many forms of information that saves time .
Way overpriced and underpowered
I have a 1995 Oldsmobile 88 with obd2 connector what will that scanner read my engine light regular scanners wonât work and obd1 doesnât hookup thanks.
Only eric o can keep me interested close to an hour in a tool i will never own or useđ¤Ş
as of March 2021 the MSRP is $5999.00
Just bought one of these, got the super deal bc the d10 is coming out now, and itâs just the modis with training wheels. Iâm not complaining, but I was sort of expecting something a bit snazzier.
You review a scan tool the way most of us would. Turn it on, plug into the car, play with all the buttons, decide whether you like it or not, lol
The one nice thing about snap-on is that no matter what tool you use, it's all the same software. Makes using multiple versions of their tools easier. I have a p1000, and it doesn't even come close to the capabilities as this one does, but the software is the same. That's a nice tool. I've learned so much from your channel. The methodology you use to track an issue is spot on! Don't listen to the haters!!!! đ
Hey thanks for putting this together there big guy! Very informative and by far the most on depth one I have seen. Lot's of information on the tool that those looking to buy one should keep in mind IMHO!
Thanks Eric!
Cool review đđđ
You remind me of someone but I just cannot put my thumb on it. I'm gonna figure it out soon lol
Nice video Eric.
Not sure why everyone talks bad about Snap-on. My snappy guy has taken very good care of me. My modis goes for repair I have a loaner the next day. Same thing with the A/C machine. Tool warranties are never ever questioned and Snap-on tech support has always been top notch. I have never experienced an issue with any of their products and my dealer is hands down, one of the best in the USA. I pay once per year for updates and thatâs it. None of this every 4 months horseshit. You guys must have some real jerkoff tool dealers.
My brand new modiâs edge with European software cost me $2099.00. And that included the 19.4 update.
I ask for a rep for their office management software. Guy was there next morning.
I must be lucky.
Lol. Just poked around with one a few weeks ago. Still like my Autel best tho.
Looks like a decent tool but I wouldnât want to constantly pay for the updates to keep the tool functional.
Bet the cam phasers on that scan tool will go out before just after the warranty.
I quit buying anything from Snappy about 4 years ago. I initially became unhappy when I found that I was charged 5x the price for the blue point wire stripper. This caused me to look at ALL the Snappy pricing. I now buy almost all my tools from the Mac truck.
Fairly thorough video Eric. It may get snap – on fans a bit upset though
can anyone recommend a scanner in the $300 price range where i could scan my 2007 Honda odyssey and read reset tpms and air bag ,vsa codes ?
Thanks Mr. O. for the indepth exposè. I'm a mere DIYer, in the market for a tool with bi-directional capabilities. While this Snap-on unit is out of my reach, your insights are of great value for expanding my knowledge into areas that would otherwise be inaccessible to me. When I make my decision on a tool I will at least have an understanding of a larger spectrum of capabilities. In other words, it's good to know what the professionals are using.
Every scan tool has functions you like and some you do not. I am a do it my self and need some of the features but not all, since I have been a tech for 30 years in the marine side of things and do use my head for most of it. There are scan tools like mercury marine or Volvo that do a lot of testing. . For the car side of things I purchased a Launch 129x and I am very pleased with it. I do wish the marine would become OBD2 complaint. But I will not hold my breath lol Eric keep it up I do learn from you.
The reason we like scan tool videos is the same reason we like Charlize Theron, they are both a little bit out of our league.
Eric, in your next video (no PS Chevy) you say no more scan tool videos.
Not one comment here (that I read) disrespects you for your review of the Snappy scan tool. They are reacting to the facts of the tool, mostly the price and sales model (updates and subscription).
I think we would all like more scan tool reviews so we can see the affordable options to Snappy. I know I would.
Thanks for the review. Your viewers appreciate the effort that you put into all of your educational videos….
good review
Please donât ever again say âDoug scoreâ. That gender fluid shill will promote any car manufacturer who buys him a soy latte.
I'm familiar with the original Modis, Modis Edge, Solus Edge, Solus Ultra, OTC Genisys, Autel Maxisys, GM's tech2 and GDS2, Ford IDS and Chrysler Wytec.
For the money, Snap on just isn't worth it. For $4000, a couple thousand LESS then the Snap-on, I can get an Autel with wireless communication AND J2534 pass-through module programming!!!!
Quite honestly, there are enough reviews out on the Zurich ZR PRO, now, that I'm seriously considering buying one.
I'm so happy for the progress and success you've gained, , btw u got a lot of Envious people in the comments lol
That one has a lot of nice features. It must be hard to figure out which one to get.
I have this scanner 5500 bucks and every six months is a 600 dollar update
I wonder If I can get the Snap on Guy to lend it to me to "Review" every couple of weeks when I need it!
Eric, if I remember correctly, you also have a Launch scan tool, but haven't seen you using it. Can you use it one one of your upcoming diagnostic videos and let us know how you feel about it?
Mute the haters, Eric, and keeping making the videos you think weâll like, weâll keep watching. Please donât let the negatory nannies sway what kind of videos you make.
Does engine have to be in run to read live data ? Or does it have to be running ?
Good video since Ive been considering it. My guy wants 6400 plus my Solus Edge in return. That price does come with a two year subscription to this intelligent diag program. I am leaning towards keeping Shopkey, since the Triton seems to give you the same info and keeping my Solus Edge or look into a Launch or Autel
Probably not ready to replace the current scan tool but I like seeing what's new and learning about new tools. Good tool tour. Thanks
Wow! I found it very informative. You have always put these out just so others can get info on the latest and Greatest. So a few people have an opinion of their own and they just seem to want to bash and be rude and not team players. Well for those guys they need to just keep quiet and not make an issue as I for one like these video's. For you out there that just ruined it for general people. Thanks. Just a reminder for some people that just like to spew and make no sense and just be total Richard Craniums. Shut up and let the man do his thing. If nothing else go post on facebook, and leave the vids out. Not a happy watcher at this point due to the hate crowd.
does it come with a jar of vasoline to make the insertion easier.
So if you had to pick only on scanner what would it be?
Thanks for the video! Old school guys like me need more exposure to scanners and internet resources.
For RTD thermistors the resistance increases as temperature increases
Love the new haircut brother
They sale those for $3995.00 here in Florida. Pretty decent tool.
I've fogot more than you've forgotten,Dude.I think.
Good review. Seems to need a lot of "clicking" needed to navigate through the system. Haven't noticed that when you use your other scanners. Thanks for the review.
Doug demono LOLOLOLOL that made my day đ
Ahhhh Snap-On – the ancient American Indian word for, "Smitty can't afford it!" đI bet even the annual MANDATORY updates are cost-prohibitive for me. Might be worth it if I could "Get Connected" and meet girls … but my wife might not be too keen on that one! đ
Great vid, man! Now at least I'm somewhat familiar with it, in case I buy one 35 years from now. đ That thing has some great info in there, though. I love that in scan tools, since obtaining information is my Achilles heel here. I like the "Direct Hit" style of what the most fixes were, since I use that as a guide. Am I on the right track? I'll check that and see. If not, I know I need to change my strategy. Or if I'm just flat frustrated and ready to quit, I can test to confirm the #1 fix … then the #2, and so forth. That would keep my blood pressure very low if I had access to that every day. Finally got my WiFi situation handled, so now I can finally connect the Autel and Encore up.
I shot a brief vid of a '89 Isuzu Trooper former plow truck (say no more, right? đ¤Ł). I'll probably title it, "This beats Eric O.'s vehicles!" Talk about RUST!! Holy crapper, this thing was pretty scary up on the lift. The pads were pushing through the frame on the front right! I could twist the frame rails just by pushing down on the front bumper mounts!! The engine mounts weren't even attached. When I yanked the engine after pulling the tranny/transfer case out, I basically yanked it right out after torching off only 2 engine mount bolts on the left side. The right side was rotted right off! Then I started an EPIC fire with the torch! I thought it was just the engine mount burning … but once I cut the oxygen, I saw it was that, plus the fender mud flap on top of the control arm, and some wiring! It was BIG! I panicked, grabbed a fire extinguisher (first time ever!), and couldn't get the damn pin out! Now the fire is growing, and the flames looked dangerously close to my bare ceiling in here. I ran across the shop to the Face Melter, and grabbed one from there. Thankfully I was able to bust  the seal on that one, and gave the fire a blast. Put it right out. Boy does that crap burn these old damaged lungs of mine! I had white crap everywhere. What a mess. Was just a quick toot, too!! I'll put that footage in the vid from the security camera. Should be entertaining! Who knows when I'll get to it, though. There's a long list in the queue. Still working with Apple to fix this damn thing. All they've done is upload a ton of my files. I'm waiting for my bank account to get cleaned out, and my card to be used in Fiji … đ
Great video. Great review. Great channel.
