In this video I have a look at a customers Rav4 with a complaint that it stalls at the stop signs. Before we dive in let's use a few clues we get on a short test drive to see if it cures her problem.

Come on. Kitty Come on wi tight. come on. hurry up you seeing it? You going in? Come on.

get in there. Jeez, we got to look at this. Toyota We only got this few minutes here, but apparently this thing does not like to stay running by that. I mean it stalls.

Whoa. Sound like the timeing change jumped through the cover. Apparently it stalls it. stop signs and there is no engine light on.

Let me see if the engine light works. It does Maintenance required. Lights on and mileage 184 700. Uh, I'm going to jump into just some generic data like I say we're just going to start looking at this here here today.

I've got to go to a dental appointment here in about 20 minutes, but figure we might be able to learn a little something. seems like it Idol's fine and stuff, but evidently you got to two foot this thing All right. One code found. oops Drive Cycle's done.

so nobody's been doing the code clearing business. Let's see what code is in it. Maybe a pending code or an old history code or something here. Uh, let's see current code P 14 Cam shaft timing over Advanced or system performance bank one.

Okay, well that's something. Oh, brake pedal goes about to the floor. just roll ahead here a little bit. Well, let's take it for a little rip there.

I'm going to scan it, look at some data while I take it for Drive see if we learn anything. Um, way. that timing change rattling that didn't sound too healthy did it? Oh, hopefully you guys could hear that. I'm just going to roll up to the stop site here and didn't stall the very first one I pulled up to.

yeah, you see that. that's it. She does. Stall boy.

it sounds like that Ty of Chain's going to puke. We better go back to the shop. This stin thing could be just out of oil. I See the oil sticker up there says it's do at 176 we got 184 on it Timing codes plus the like I say when I first started this thing it sounded terrible I'm going to two foot it here.

at the stop sign, we got an oil light flicking on it. it thing's still at 1,000 RPMs and it's flicking the oil light on I Think sounds like a freaking diesel truck here. Let's just pull in here before it blows up. Yeah, just stalled again.

All right. I'll get her inside. Yeah, this is going to be as simple as an oil change. actually.

let me just start that again. just head in gear. step right. W It's a mouse.

Scared me. Better get that little bastard before you. Oh shoot, just close the hood now. I got to pop the and get him I Want in my shot.

Scared there little sucker. Missed him. Come here. Oh, get out of there.

Okay, he's going to go live in the car. We're going to park this one outside here pretty quick. Couldn't get a hold of Little Bastard will bite you. that's a field mouse.

Just rip my glove. got me all. He comes back out. We're going to get them all right.

Let's see. see what the survey says here. Add a little bit of moisture on it and no oil on the stick. Okay, step one: always put oil in your car, especially if it sounds like a diesel.
I Grab just two quarts. so of the zero 20, we'll start with that cuz we're not even on the stick. Yeah I don't like it when the cars Coman if I got mice in them and the mice get in my shot Luna keeps them pretty cleaned up till the cat does. We haven't had a mouse problem in here a lot of years, but every once in a while she'll get one.

Usually on the parking lot though, coming out of people's cars, but you got to be careful to you grab by the tail. usually okay, but you grab Bo they bite. that hurts. so that's two quarts.

We only need one more to make it full. Heay. All right. Court number three.

See if that put us in the safety zone? Yes sir. So we're almost at the dot now, so that's good. Close enough. Good enough for the girls we run with.

Damn! Mouse we're going for a r. Let's go see if this fixes the problem. Oh, that sounds a little better. Must be it doesn't like running on one Court Hey, the oil light's not coming on.

Hey look at that. it didn't install. Go to the next stop sign here. You have to deal with the seat belt dingerz it's going around the block cuz look at that.

it didn't install again. Miracle miracle. But at least we know what the problem is. Now one more stalling.

All right folks, that's it. Pretty easy one. like I say I'll call Ladi see what they want to do if they just want to take it like it is or actually do an oil change on it. It's got 176 and some change written on this up here.

so full synthetic. They probably put 5,000 Mi on the sticker. so that means it was done at 171 and we're High 184. So we'll say 185.

So what's that? It's 14,000 mil on an oil change and um, assuming it's you know hasn't been done in between. That's a lot of miles. Um, chances are it hasn't, you know and it's just out of oil. three quarts we put in it think probably holds you know 4 and A2 or something without looking.

So driving around with a qu and a half oil sounds like a diesel truck and cam timing codes you know. Most obvious thing do is check your oil, check your oil lady and uh, that'll cause them to stall. Whether it's stalling because of fuel cutout. I Don't know or you know cam timing, it's not really worth looking into as to the actual reason, but the reason is it's low on oil, so check your oil folks.

Let this be a reminder to you and what you're thinking about there. I Think about going in that comment section leaving a comment. The Question: the insty the Facebook forgot to give you the signs. Just remember viewers, if I can do it, you can do it.

Thanks for watching.

It costs me less than 40$ to do my own oil changes every 3k. I'll continue to do that until i die. The whole 5k to 7500 to 10k oil changes are horseshit. OK, if your camshaft light comes on, maybe check the oil. My Chevy gave me a check engine oil level message on the DIC one time. No Lie! I was in line a Wendy's one night, engine idling just fine, and the DIC displayed Check Engine Oil Level. After I got my Dave's Double w/ 1/2 Lb of British Beef, I got out and checked it. Lo and behold it was way down on the stick. That little GEN V 4.3 LV3 ECO T engine had been a teal trooper since new. Nary a lick of trouble. It only had 30 some thou on it and I never race it, so I wondered if the AFM was causing oil consumption. OR maybe the 5w-30? It had never gotten low afore and has never since.
