In this video I bring you along as I go about the boring everyday tasks of fixing cars. I know a lot of our videos portray a fast paced, crazy busy super fun diag shop. The reality is the majority of my day is filled with jobs just like the one on this Subaru. A few easy to fix customer complaint and bring in the next one. Here's to watching paint dry!

As a parts store guy I’ve had people come in with bulbs that failed in some weird and not so obvious ways, like way down where the posts go through the glass, or at the very end of the filament so it looks all good unless you really really look
Wrong oil filter originally installed?
Hey, Mr. O. Mundane is better than average in this crazy world. In fact, I wish we had more mundane and less insane. I'm sure there's a poem in there somewhere, but, even though my feet are long fellows, I'm not up to the chase. Besides that, I don't want to lose face. Anyway, thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
Id prefer to see the everyday, and less of the crazy electrical diag, myself
Every time I watch your channel, I remember you're a good dude.
May be mundane, but it is still of interest and it is also educational. Thanks.
The mundane can turn frustrating sometimes. My '02 Civic used to eat brake lights (all 3), but never the tail lights. (they were dual filament bulbs) I never figure out why. Also on one of the oil changes, the filter started leaking immediately. Turned out it was a faulty crimp at the gasket. As you have said before, new parts are not always good parts. Oh, and of course, the time before that, I made the classic mistake of not checking if the old gasket came off with the filter. Great.
Had a similar situation with bulbs, the small number plate lights to be exact, the wire in the bulb also seemed fine but the bulb wouldn't light until I hit it slightly, when removed it seemed ok, but as soon as I suddenly moved it, aka hit it I could see the wire vibrating so my guess is the wire was broken just as in your case and as soon as it gets a slight nudge it contacts and lights up. New bulbs sorted it out for me as well.
Thanks
Why are there masks tied around the coat hangers.
Eric, when did you get braces?
I will take automotive parts made in China for a thousand Alex. What is there's your problem lady.
What a trip! Where ever she has been getting work done before bringing it to you get their parts from flea bay?
If you run out of stuff to film you can try making fun of other mechanics’ videos. 🤣🤣
Even the mundane is interesting on seeing how you approach diagnose and repair, exhilarating!
Do you subscribe to the manufacturers recommendation of oil changes at 5,000 to 10,000 mi? Or do you stay by the old school 3000 mile oil change?
Luv' me some rigged up hard to fix Subaru heat shields. Brings back Forrester memories.
I'll never get those 6min 5secs back in my lifetime. 🤣
Nothing wrong with this video, this part and parcel of being a motor mechanic.
You take the work that comes in through the door.
That battery looks like it is venting electrolyte like there is no tomorrow
Clearly, you've got thousands, including myself, that look forward to every experience, and project you share.
I LOVE it when I'm working on something and think " Eric did one of these… Same deal?" and sure enough! Thanks!
I got misled by an incorrect aftermarket replacement for a Subaru bulb, ending up with the same symptoms. It turns out the incorrect bulb looks almost identical, even side by side, but it doesn't make good contact in the connector. From now on I'll be checking part numbers to be sure.
Finally a video of simple repair that really happens. Small quick repairs that really makes for a long week lol. It just shows Transparency, you have a great shop. If I ever break down in you area I would go out of my way and have you repaired my car.👍
Hey! I have a 2004 Subaru Forester I just bought. I have to do a couple rear bulbs. THIS helped just at the right time. Not mundane at all. Thanks bud.
worked on the bench for 20 years , some days it was nice not have to do head scratcher jobs !!
I'm not a pro like you, but I've seen a surprising number of electrical problems caused by bad grounds. It makes dual-filament bulbs appear to go off when the brakes are applied (with headlights on) and rear window defoggers on hatchbacks stop working altogether. Then there is the starter…
Most work shops .would be lady $1000 fix oil leak
Retired have not been driving the old commuter at night. But you need to drive it once in a while and we took it out on date night. Came out of the theater and both of the low beams were burnt out! Had to drive home on the brights.Changed them out and all is good.
Is it just me or does that EJ25 sound like it's about to blow a gasket?
Humdrum and mundane? I'll gladly trade with you. I'm a truck driver and absolutely hate it. I've learned a lot from your video's. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
It is good to see how simple problems get sorted out the easy way
This was perfectly fine. I was wondering if the filt-ray was double-o-ringed and after you confirmed it wasn't, I was feeling so confident that, if you could do it, I could do it! Thanks for taking us along on the paint drying tour.
What would Ivan say about this one
Rain man Ray lives on tricking us into watching another oil change. 😂. Always good to see you Eric, no matter what you are up to.
Good video. Like always crappy parts will do it every time.
I can understand at your skill level these repairs can seem boring. But when I twisted wrenches, I appreciated the days of slow pitch softball
Hey Eric good job we the fanz never get tired of the flic's. Keep them comming even if the work is repeat.
Waiting on the brake cleaner Eric !!! No show 😁😁👍
I see it's had the Subaru factory-fix for the rattling exhaust heat shields…yup…the hose clamps. Dealer "fixed" my 2011 in the same fashion 🙄 More mundane vids! I remember those days as a Toyota tech!
More videos 🙏
Boring pays the bills.
Hey Eric, I love watching your videos and love your commentary. But I have a quick question that you can hopefully answer for me. I have a 2008 Honda fit with an automatic transmission and it is getting really sluggish. I did drain the fluid in which I found that my fluid had some metallic tint to it. I'm assuming that this is not normal. But the transmission doesn't have any issues changing gears. Only issue is when climbing steep inclines the rpms go way up and is not moving as it used to. When accelerating to get up to freeway speeds the rpms go high but I feel like something is slipping in the transmission. Could this possibly be a torque converter issue?
Mundane pays the rent and grocery bills. It gives you a break from the challenges. It allows you to escape the paranoid rant of " Why do they only bring really cruddy rotted crusty pieces of sugar that other people used as a sani john to me?'' Thank you.
What an absolutely DIABOLICAL place to put an oil filter! Guess it answers the age old question "How would Dr. Evil design an engine?" We have all asked it, and now we know!
Thanks for even the mundane ones 🙂
I would have taken it on a precautionary test drive to the ice cream place just to make sure that the new bulb wasn’t emitting a high frequency oscillation that caused the integrity of the new oil filter’s o-ring to be compromised.
A view into the day to day
bulb replacement oil filter, all good
it's all good !
All good is as you are good.
Shalom upon you and family with a blessing of a double portion.
Happy to watch the easy stuff too.
Here's something for you …. earlier today while driving my 2014 Cadillac ATS, my turn signal stopped making the sound and suddenly I lost sound in my front speakers while listening to Sirius XM. I tried switching to CD player and it said player error. I did an internet search and found that other GM cars had similar things happen as far back as 2009. even though people put questions on blogs, no one had a solution. have you heard about this issue before? one person said that it happens to his pickup from time to time and his solution is to turn it off for at least 10 minutes and turn it back on. he said the issue goes away until it happens again.
Good content as usual!.
It was great to see ya again my guy! Keep up the good work.
Some days are that way and others you wish were that way.
It's really kinda' sad. The old saw, "just because it's new doesn't mean it's good" is happening with an alarming frequency this days. 😞
Look at that nice new New York license plate.
Did you kill anything this weekend?
We like mundane.
It just be like that sometimes. Kinda like both headlight bulbs going out at the same time.
Might be time for a good ol' brake job video!
The open loop idle is lumpier than my ex's mashed potatoes.
Yup, it's all in a day's work for Eric O. at South Main Auto. And sometimes bulbs and filters just go like odd like that. At least you didn't have to tell the customer she needs a new wiring harness and a new engine.
Probably a car quest bulb. Shops buy in bulk, techs go through 2 or 3 until they find one that works…..and then it burns out when customer leaves the shop! 😂😂😂
Something wrong with that Subaru, the head gaskets or valve covers aren't leaking.
Wish you were in my neck of the woods. I have a 2007 Odyssey with an all cylinder misfire. Did a valve lash adjustment because it was due and I was hoping that was the issue. It was not. It does not appear to be coils, compression, timing belt, fuel pressure, or anything else I can think of. Powers and grounds from the battery are good. Could use your expertise and would probably make for a good video.
Not every video can be an epic battle between man and machine! But I'm sure everyone is okay with that. thanks for taking us along!
Well I hope things spice up for you, you deserve a challenge.
Never known a Subaru to not leak from the filter housing..
She need to stay with you other mechanic using krappy parts
You what they say, It all helps pay the bills. Keep it going. 💯
I hate Subarus….
Unfortunately for me, a lot of my customers own them. 😩😩😩
👍
The filter might have fallen off down the road. Bulbs who knows.
Next, watching paint dry and grass grow!
These videos might seem simple to some, but I still have a scar on my left knuckle from replacing a tail light bulb in some Hyundai and almost threw my back out replacing a size 34 battery that was in the trunk, but under the back seat of a Mercedes. Lol
Love it! Need more mazda videos
I enjoy any video that you do mundane or not.
“I’m given all she’s got Captain”. Well Take all you got! Lol beggars can’t be choosers !
Quality is not in 2022! Except for S M A!!!!!! Thanks Mr. O !
Simple is good… 👍👀
There's always something to learn even from the mundane.
Not every woman you dance with is a ginger Rogers sometimes it’s plain old clodhopper
Bro, we want electrical mystery, frayed wires, chewed wires, intrigue and frustration
Great attitude, Thanks for the video.
Just replaced my first clutch. 89 GMC S-15. No rusty bolts, live in VA. Biggest problem was the pilot bearing. Tried every trick in the book. Finally got it out by drilling and tapping and using a slide hammer.
you've got me trained….
you said it's a classic 7712 from napper and I though: "not a sponsor!"
its what it takes, thanks
I would rather see a video on the mundane things you do or a million break jobs than to not see videos at all from you. I am glad you finally made a new video.
My wife's car had an oil leak near the oil filter after I did an oil change. The cause? A pinhole in the side of the filter! I have never, ever seen that in 40 years of working on cars.
Tis the season for winterization!
Gratuitous comment
Nioce to see you are staying busy even it's it's nothing too exciting.
I suspect Mr. O isn't a Subaru fanatic so it's entirely forgivable… Wasn't the "big two five" the smallest NA engine used in the Outback since the 90s?
I bought a 2010 2.5i a few months back. I sorta miss the fuel economy of my Prius but… it's a very nice car. Sunroof, leather, heated power seats, truly a thing of beauty. Also it's the same color scheme as my first car (I had a 94 Crown Vic Interceptor that was green with light tan interior… no leather nor luxury though).
My mom has a 2017 3.6R though. The two cars could not be more different.
Driving my mom's car is like piloting an angry dragon that likely wants to kill you. Piloting my car is like a telling a rebellious teenager to do something. It'll get done eventually but there's a lot of bitching and moaning along the way. That said, I'm very much looking forward to snow. I've already priced steelies and plan to get me some Blizzaks or Winterforce or some such aggressive snow tires for the two to five weeks that PIttsburgh sees snow.
Just the simple thing is the problem, the bulb might be made wrong ,and the seal sometimes not the right combination materials making it soft when hot . Great video.
I've been having issues with Wix filters leaking just like that on my subarus.
I'm all for whatever you have time to share! I used to love the mundane jobs… Didn't always pay very well but I found those 'fixit' jobs to be very relaxing.
How about "Josh does a ……. repair". We hear him enough so he must be working.
You go get ‘em baby!
Finally a new video. any video will do. Also, up here in the middle of Canada, when winter hits next Wednesday and lasts until May, we need you and your videos. Thanks
