NOW, we all know that dropping the pan and replacing the fluid in filter DOES NOT replace ALL of the fluid. This is normally done as a scheduled maintenance about every 30 to 50k depending on what the customer wants. IF YOU WANT ALL of you fluid replaced it should be done with a fluid exchange machine, however in my experience doing periodic maintenance such as this has proven useful time and time again. I have done this on several different vehicles and if people would do it regularly it would be fine. Sometimes I disconnect one of the transmission lines going to the cooler and pump out all the fluid. I recently bought a 12 V electric pump to pump out fluids and I'm gonna do that today to drain the transmission pan before I drop it, less chance of spills. As always Eric thanks for the great video.

Just bought an 05 Envoy with only 99k miles. Lots of service records but none for a transmission filter and fluid change. The manual recommends 100k miles to do it. As you said that whole topic is crazy. Here some say don't do it unless you don't every 50k or so. Drives and shifts flawless should I do it?

You are detailed as much as any any one can be. I drain fluid, then turn it over for 10 seconds to spin SOME of the fluid from torque con vertor it helps some of fluid out, thats me
Question ❓ I have a 2003 envoy the transmission shifts good it drives good but when it get hot it will stop moving Intel it cools down the fluid is black and I would like to know if I change out the fluid and filter do you think it would fix the problem or have you had any same thing on any envoys and that fixed it thanks for the video
My 2004 silverado 5.3 has 178,000 miles on it and has never had a transmission service. It has mostly highway miles and has towed very little and Runs and shifts fine. I serviced the rear differential for the first time at this milage and had little metal on the magnet compared to all i've seen. QUESTION IS: What to I do for this transmission? Full fluid exchange or just drop pan/filter, or do nothing? Thank you so much! Also, if i were to paint a picture for the shop, what type of painting would you like?

You did a good job. I use indian head shalac on pan and rubber gasket. Flushing is expensive.

I work the same way
So I went thru this replacement today on my 2008 4WD Trailblazer – followed this vid closely. The screws holding the pan is 13mm – and the torque to remove them was around 40 inch/lbs (which I used to tighten afterward). I have a vacuum oil pump that allowed me to draw 2.5 quart out thru the dip stick – and the remaining 2.5 quarts came out with the pan (owner manual says 5 quarts for the transmission). That exactly how much I filled it up with afterwards. Now one thing that resulted in 3 trips to the auto part store was the filter…apparently there are 2 types of transmission pans – and at least 2 different size filters. The one I needed had a 45 degree triangle "cut" from one of its 4 corners – which matched up to the pan. The first 2 I brought home did not have that notch – and the pan would not go on. I had hoped to avoid that foolishness by taking the original filter with me – which I did – but in the first 2 cases I did not look that closely at the replacement. Lesson learn…NAPA had me covered… very helpful vid.

What size are the bolts for the pan?
Well, I think I'd like your opinion on doing a trans service on an 08 4runner 4.0. It only has 50k on it and the trans hasn't been touched. I'm going to drain and fill the trans. My question is about the filter. I've heard it MAY be a cleanable screen and I've also heard that if it's pretty dirty it should be changed because there's no way all the dirt could be washed out. I'm thinking the best money spent would be to change it with the drain and fill because of age and who knows what might be stuck in it. Could you advise?

I have a GMC envoy I bought it used an it had a 125 thousand miles on when I bought it now it has 156 almost 160 thousand should I get my transmission fluid changed the person I bought it from put a new transmission on it
FYI, to avoid the GLUG, GLUG, GLUG when pouring from 1 quart transmission fluid bottles, pour it with the bottle sideways with the spout on the high side. That’s why the pour spout is offset, rather than in the center. I’ve been changing oil for 30 years and just learned that trick last year.
Replace your transmission fluid is not gonna help your transmission. Sometimes it may cause transmission slips because those clutch inside transmission already wear out.

Hello Erick i just have a question to you , i own a buick rainier 2004 , one year ago trans was repaired but suddenly i tried reverse shift and slippery, i check my trans. oil and missed oil but never leak so i refill it with new oil but problem happend again but in driving mode so Do you think is maintenance problem or maybe damage?
My 07 blazer has dex 3 instead of 6. My mechanic made a mistake in that but now refuses to fix it. Will it damaged my vehicle? Or do I have to get the 3 out and put 6 in since my manual states it needs 6.
I saw a case of Seafoam on the bench. I thought that Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil were engine voodoo.
Just think about how much money was saved when drain plugs were no longer installed on automatic transmission. I always used to drill tap and install. BUT NOW trying find a spot to do it is pretty much looking for a spot that was missed in the quest for minimizing metal.
From my experience doing these 4L60E fluid changes they hold exactly 5 qts. if you are only doing a fluid and filter change refill.
Would you recommend changing out the A-B shift solenoid while doing this? The gears are slipping like it's in neutral and revving at the same time while driving. Seems simple to replace and don't want to pay more than I should to have a mechanic do it. Also the transmission is under warranty. Should I just let the mechanic do it or do it myself?

How you've done it is standard operating procedure. Anyone removing the trans to dump the tourque converter, etc.. is a fool who clearly doesn't work on their own vehicles and believes every mechanic selling them service..
