@Rainman Ray's Repairs, is it just me or does your shop need a good receptionist/cashier/service writer/doo-dee-doo answerer? I can't help but notice the greatly increased duration of doo-dee-doos in your videos from about the last month or so. I guess good doo-dee-dooists must be hard to find.

The purge valve looks like the one Ford used on the Freestar. I had a 0442 code come up on my Freestar. The shops could not find a leak. The purge valve ended up having a crack in it, and was doing the same thing as the one you tested. I replaced it, and also found a crack in the rubber hose where it ran into the fuel tank vent valve. To replace the vapor canister purge valve I had to remove the outer and lower cowl. Since the repair the 0442 code has been gone. Ford could have done a better job when they came up with a location on the vehicle to place the purge valve so it could have been replaced with ease.

Since that diagnostic took you 3 min and you did not use a professional scan tool.
Do that mean the customer only pays for a free code read not a engine diagnostic???

Your green & red electric socket ratchets you have (and used in this video), what models are those and do you recommend them? Would definitely make jobs a lot more efficient.

Flex has the same thing. P0442. But it’s a cap less thing. The fact they make that handle out of plastic is crazy.

As a not so proud owner of a 07 mercury Milan (glorified fusion) if the handle/lock break like that you can pull on both at the same time to open the door instead of opening from the outside. Also the door stops locking if that happens lol

I have same error code. Replaced Purge valves, gas caps, charcoal filter and more. Did not FIX it. Just be prepared for this car to return. I still have same error code and check engine code.

door handles on these ALWAYS break. i don't even pull anything apart anymore to diag. these…….if i feel a limp handle, i just quote out a new inner handle.

I just don't get refusing a $60 part. They're already what… $20 in labor into having you pull that damn door? They'll be another $20 in labor to have someone else pull and replace that damn door. Plus having to open the power window every time they need to open/close the door drastically increases the chance of needing to replace that damn window motor, which is usually a lot more of a pain in the ass.
I've owned a 2008 fusion, I changed my door handle twice, made of cheap brittle plastic
When he pulled the door panel off all I could think about was all the trouble Ray had with that mid 90’s BMW door panel when he replaced the window motor. I thought his brain was going to explode trying to get the door handle cover replaced

My mother's 2010 Fusion, same thing, inside door handle broke. I bought a new one and changed it myself. Also had a small evap leak, but need a new fuel filler neck.

What customers do is have you do the heavy lifting, then get their cousin Jose to source the part and install it.
Problem number one. It’s a Ford Fusion.
The handle was a terrible design in the fire fusion. We had two fusions in our family and I changed 4 of them. I remember the replacements costing less then $20, but I guess in todays world $60 is the new $20😉

Purge valve should be 1-2 inches up, behind the AC lines.

Ray, how do you know the new purge valve fixed the Fusion without looking at scan data? Can’t you open and close the valve and check fuel tank pressure? Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it’s good right?

I'm sure a junkyard door handle would have been cheaper but I know that you're not doing this as an independent mech. I do wonder if you ever do "on the side" repairs.

Have you ever thought of writing a sitcom script based around a congenial fix-it shop mechanic and all the many strange and weird experiences that you come across.
Characters would be a "Latka Gravis" mechanic type buddy. A sexy order writer and or secretary and a host of wacky customers. Even the cars could be characters depending on what you find. Maybe a van comes in full of illegal immigrants for an oil change.

I had a small EVAP leak code on my Jeep … wasn't the gas cap, wasn't the purge valve either. Turned out after 23 years the charcoal canister was sending dust into the EVAP valve and ruining it.
As it turns out, a mid 80s Pontiac charcoal canister fits a 97 Jeep (the OEM part is long NLA) and it fixed the problem … until the next emissions test when the aftermarket gas cap failed the leak test … MOPAR replacement FTW.
Now, at 25 years old, no more emissions tests. It qualifies as an actual antique vehicle.
American Ford fusion is very different to Europe fusion . The European is mini mpv

Hey Ray I don't post on YouTube but I felt as though I needed to today. The question is where to start lol, I first started watching your stuff and about 10 mins in to the video I realized your in SRQ at as it has it my old shop! I used to work in that building using those lifts years ago when it was Tires Plus! Anyway what a small world I really appreciate your thought process in diagnosis it reminds me of how I work through similar issues! I don't live down there anymore but I still have family maybe I will run into you one of these days will definitely recommend my family to bring there vehicles to you though!

I would like to point something out at this point, what in the hell is the deal with these cars? On board computers navigation devices and so on and they still can't tell you exactly what's wrong with them? Anything with a view screen on the dash should be able to diagnose the exact problem and order the damn part for you should you choose to take that route. I could understand all of these complicated systems if these things were capable of flight, but every damn car out there these days operates on the same principle that my 81 Datsun operates on they just piled on a bunch of electronic sprinkles to try and make it look like some kind of advancements have been made.

Due to no door parts availability that is too bad. If it were my car I wi you ld try a pick it yourself salvage yard or take latch off and see if i might do a repair on it with some epoxy a exacto knife and small file or such
