so what did cause the bad camber?
Needs some grease and a sweep. That alignment bay is not camera ready.
Putting the lift actions into the video is worth the admission charge alone! 😊
I knew about the Saftey pauls and cables but I didn’t know where the hydraulic cylinders were or how they made it work.
Explaining the readings on the alignment screen! So appreciated.
My neighbour had the same thing happen to their Sequoia. Only a month wait for the knuckle to come in, install and alignment.
Good ole caliber collision cars. Do you do their steering and suspension work for them?
Shop I used to work at did and it was always a debacle with them letting us fix the cars.
Ray I love your channel but I can not stand to hear you begging people to subscribe, like and hit the bell. If I like the channel I will like on my own but I have not been pressing the like button because you keep telling people to do it. Also in my opinion if your channel has great content and people like what they see they will hit the like button on their own without you begging them to. Have a great day.
You should teach an automotive repair night class Ray! Anyhow, yeah non-sales trend is here and possibly due to the bad economic condition now coupled with high inflation. People are just dragging and delaying their repairs; and average vehicle age in US has just crept up to 13.1 years!
I get that camber "technically" isn't adjustable on the car from the factory, but I bet if you click the wrench and go to tools and kits it'll show you what size cam bolt you could use. Been doing alignments for years and unless the camber is whacked outside of the range that a cam bolt can correct, or it if has a suspension style that they don't work on (pinch bolt strut, double wishbone etc.) it seems unnecessary to start replacing knuckles/struts to try to correct camber that's just barely out of spec. Even saw the SPC cam bolt box sitting next to the computer 🤣 plus it saves the customer a good deal of money. I love your videos but just giving my two cents on the matter.
Ray, you should have a Q&A i would love to hear some questions and I have a few too. Pleaseeeeeeeeeee
Really interesting to see the other side of this process. I design the factory production version of the alignment machines many manufacturers use.
"Back when I was 20 I would have just flown up there!" That was priceless Ray, sad but hilariously true! Scientists say that gravity does not increase with age!? I beg to differ and why not? Scientists are being proved wrong everyday!
I was at tire shop yesterday and guy brought in his truck for a alignment and frame was rusted out and they wouldn't do alignment.
I don't subscribe to things. I don't really like being swarmed with notifications.
I'm getting an alignment done on my car this Thursday… really hoping it's more straight forward and nothing is bent/busted. I just notice a slight pull to the right now. I also have rim protectors installed on my wheels, hopefully they are able to keep those intact/damage free with whatever machine they use.
Oh! So that's what you look like
You complain about proper alignment of the oil filler cap, but you put the floor board protective paper in with the feet facing the wrong way? Your OCD membership has been revoked effective immediately 😂
Last time I had a car alignment done, it was at a tire/alignment shop, and because the car pulled to the left. After they charged $150 for a tire rotation and alignment, the car was better but now pulled to the right. I took it back, they looked at it again and said that the rear toe was out, that the rear toe was fixed with shims behind the wheel hub and that a garage would have to fix that. So it took it to a garage, the found a bulge in one of the tires (on the tread) and said it needed to be replaced. I put on a new tire and the car drove straight. Makes you wonder how a tire/alignment shop missed a defective tire…especially when I took it back saying that the pull had moved from the right to the left and they had done a tire rotation!
Always wondered how these machines worked. I knew it was with sensors and Lasers but I wondered more in depth
When did you grow a beard?
I drove a car with customer installed tie rods. It was the craziest scariest driving car ever.
Thank you Ray for making the Hyundai Elantra alignment video. Sounds kind of crazy for a body shop to make the replacement part approval after all your time and effort pertaining to repair. Unfortunately double work on your part if they say yes. Please keep those videos coming they are extremely educational and always a pleasure to watch.
For a such precise lazer machine I'm still puzzled how 13.9 + 1.0 degree gives you 14.8. Math is hard even for a computer.
I like how username and password are casually placed on the post-it note pn the screen and being shared with all YT. Because Sekurity.
Wait so what if i don't subscribe? Do I still participate but in the opposite way?
that hyundai driver probably went over some deep pothole, both right side are messed up and also i noticed the camber on right front matches steering misalignment. so might have to check steering rack too might got stripped one thread
It’s satisfying to watch and yes I learned how to fix some issues on my current car which has 207k miles
I CAN'T EVEN SPELL TECHNICIAN BUT I ARE ONE. YOU ARE
ONE I CAN TELL BY YOUR LANGUAGE OF DEGREES ECT.DUH
no, don't ask me to subscribe. don't give in to marketing bullshit. I don't need to hear it every video, it will deter me from watching.
Ray, between you and SMA my knowledge has been increased a lot, Kudos to you and Eric.
I don’t even change my own oil but watching your vids are addicting
@Rainman Ray's Repairs you may ( or may not ) get a kick out of this: For grins and giggles I would click the "subscribe" button every time a poster requested such. After loosing over 100 subscriptions, I finally quit. you are one of the VERY few to say " if you have not already done so". Good job!
nice 2017+ AD Elantra…. maybe I missed something but I don't believe that's a 2016 model, hopefully the alignment details match
I remember as a kid a friend sold some Cadillac parts to a guy in Brooklyn . They had a " shop " in a run down residential garage in a very bad area . They would buy wrecked " flashy " vehicles and sell them in the " hood " . I saw them " straighten " a bent chassis with a blow torch and a sledgehammer . ALL specifications were meticulously adjusted to factory parameters – BY EYE ! As long as the car didn't go down the street sideways with the tires squealing , it was " perfect " ! Bet they got at least 6 months on a set of new tires !
I am surprised that you have ropes in the lift instead of cables. I haven't seen that.
I got for my shop a 100eur TV so the monitor is mirroed up from the alignment computer. Not sure why you dont have that, i think everyone has it
Steering Axis Inclination, (not included)
Steering Axis Inclination…not included…go try again on your ASE…
You make me miss being a mechanic, I got overwhelmed cause im an aprentice but was the only mechanic and they booked in everything no matter what soo got overexhausted and shit.
Back in the day when wheel/frame alignments were done with battering rams . Good times.
Man you should work for the dumbest automobile channel on youtube think of the cash you could make there
Love your videos, the title should have been when your customer is ANOTHER shop
Dang that’s a low mileage for a 2016
Had no idea this much effort went into a basic alignment.
This brings me back. Early 90's the shop I worked for got a new Hunter optical alignment machine. The heads were connected by cables to the machine, the setup was a bit different as the wheels were rotated in the air to align the heads and then since we didn't have a dedicated rack, it was a 3 bay shop, we had stands to set the slide and rotating pads on. Rear wheels were on a slid plate to move sideways. Alignments were my favorite job too. Made a lot of good money, especially when the rears needed shims.
I remember when I bent my rim my strut took most of the impact along with wheel bearing
Good video
Time to reset your cables on the hoist 😁
Ray asks nicely I do it
Make some signs that would go by the button on your lift with the words SUBSCRIBE and another one LIKE.
I guarantee you that is not a 2016 Hyundai ELANTRA maybe 17-19
