All I can say is I'm pleased both my cars have timing chains & I do regular oil changes (don't drive either much but checked my V6 other week it was hard to see oil on the dipstick still that clean maybe because of low mileage about 250klm's a year)
I have never seen someone so close to needing a motor lol good stuff tho. Real question tho was it off timing? I would assume so unless the tensioner was able to extend far enough out. I need to know
Subaru came into our shop for a missfireโฆ If was not making any strange noises and dealer had done the timing belt a few months before hand even had the fancy sticker indicating soโฆ well I went through my diag procedure found the right bank had low compression.. I dropped the exhaust manifold so i could get my eyes on the exhaust valves and I did a leak down test and we had some blow by on a couple valves figured that there was a small break or some carbon build up was causing it to not close all the wayโฆ. so we were planning on pulling heads and doing some valvesโฆ well when we pulled the timing cover we found the tensioner was loose!!! It skipped 2 teeth the belt was about shredded and was cutting in the timing cover somewhere near the crank! Im guessing they didnโt lock tight the bolts nor did they torque them!!! But same thing absolutely no strange noiseโฆ no cam/crank correlation codes! No indication of any timing belt related issues!!
Lucky!! On a side note…done my 3rd Honda J-Series timing belt and water pump while following your YT video. That was a great video you put together. ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฟ Thanks.
I bought a car with 120k miles, was told the timing belt had been done. Fast forward my car now has 170k miles and that sht broke. I was pissed the belt had never been replaced.
I just worked on a 09 dodge journey, misfire on number 2 cylinder, P0202 fuel injector circuit code. Had injector pulse, wiring was good, bad fuel injector with high resistance.
Honestly, the 3.5 is an absolute bulletproof engine aside from timing belt issues. My family has had like 8 of these motors over the years and none have failed with well over 200k miles, aside from timing belts shitting themselves due to lack of maintenance.
Just did my daughters 2010 Journey with 3.5. Bought a Gates kit and found the GMB timing belt tensioner bracket would not move freely when torqued to spec. Took the new idler pulley off the GMB and reused the factory bracket.
Wow that's impressive I've never seen a bearing on the tensioner let go and not make any noise at all usually u get that chattering noise when cold at least lucky lady enjoy your bear
I think that she's lucky that it was caught before the failed bearing caused what's left of the belt tensioner to heat up to the point that it caused the timing belt to fail, which I suspect makes quite a mess of the valve train.
You'll repair it and then it won't run right because it was used to running with broken parts! ๐๐๐๐
Some days you're the bug and some days you're the windshield! ๐๐
Those things have timing belts? I had no idea
WOW. Lucky. And as dry as it is not to have smoked…REALLY lucky.
Oh yes..those ball bearings are a Chrysler option..you don't really need 'em..๐คช
The things people driveโฆโฆ
Donโt know much about the Dodge Journey and you donโt see too many of them on the Road.
WOW! Very very lucky! I hope that she went out and bought a lottery ticket!
We just had a Subaru come in with the same problem but was noisy. It blew it's mind out in a car! But we got it back on the road.
When you lose an argument with your wife and she says โOh wow you lost your balls, theres some of them. Some more sitting over there.โ ๐

Must be a Toyota
Too funny!!! Wow!!!!!
Honda odessy vcm delete video
Living life on the edge, and she didn't even know it.
Caught that in the nick of time! It probably wouldn't have lasted much longer and WHAMO!
I take it that it's a interference engine and yep she definitely won.
Youโd think something like that would beโฆ unbearableโฆโฆ
Iโll let myself outโฆโฆ
they lucked out that's for sure
Wow…that's all I can say…
Hand of God keeping that from jumping a cog and destroying that engine๐ฎ๐๐๐๐

Get out of here!
Thatโs the built in fail safe. Itโs designed that way.
What a terrible engine over all
Must have a loud radio!
Yea you forgot to mention that some days the bear gets you a stomps the crap out of you. ๐ณ
Interference engine?
She must be living life right… whew!
whew
The bearing was screaming, she just didn't notice.
I like your show, bro. You sound like Captain Time Squad
the bear got watch wes work
Last place said she had a few oil changes left on that tensioner no doubt
Lucky
new tensioner and belt , better than a new top end rebuild…๐ง๐๐โฏ๏ธโ๏ธ
You know what they say. You win some and you win some.
Wth she ate ๐ to be so lucky
You need to take her with you to buy you a lotto ticket.
Lucky!! On a side note…done my 3rd Honda J-Series timing belt and water pump while following your YT video. That was a great video you put together. ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฟ Thanks.
Wow! My luck my engine would be about 100 different hunks of useless scraps. I've seen engines destroyed from much less
Wow
No noiseโฆanymore!
That's freaking amazing they don't have to get head work!!!! Lucky for sure!!!
She needs to go out and Buy a lottery ticket!
I'd like to sit down with you and have a smoked brisket sandwich.
Could you tell what brand of tbelt kit was on there? I have a theory that it was a gates kit.
Wow you caught a Dodge during the imminent self destruct mode. I think thatโs a Chrysler code PO911
Dodge.
Someone needs to go buy a powerball ticket tonight ๐ณ

Had that on my ej25. The cog idler. Luckily it stayed in place til i got home. Made terribly noise though.
Honestly, the 3.5 is an absolute bulletproof engine aside from timing belt issues. My family has had like 8 of these motors over the years and none have failed with well over 200k miles, aside from timing belts shitting themselves due to lack of maintenance.
Go ahead make my day ๐
A Dodge's owner needs to know it's limitations. ๐
She should buy a lottery ticket right now!
Just did my daughters 2010 Journey with 3.5. Bought a Gates kit and found the GMB timing belt tensioner bracket would not move freely when torqued to spec. Took the new idler pulley off the GMB and reused the factory bracket.
If I didn't see it I wouldn't believe it.
Someone is watching her back that's awesome very blessed
She needs to buy a PowerBall ticket.
At least the cover is solid, if it was plastic, it could have been really ugly.
It must've just happened. She's definitely lucky! Tell her to go buy a lottery ticket! ๐
I've heard of "Drive till the wheels fall off" but never till the balls fall out!
Good for a few thousand more miles.
Did you tell her to book a flight to Vegas, cuz she is clearly Lucky!
That was literally hours from blowing up.
I guess you can say, she got that in the nick of timeโฆโฆ Ok Iโm a idiot
Wow that's impressive I've never seen a bearing on the tensioner let go and not make any noise at all usually u get that chattering noise when cold at least lucky lady enjoy your bear
Wowsers
๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค
Please make video of the whole Timing Belt change.
Ahhh your classic silent shredded bearing on a timing belt tensioner pulleyโฆ.a tale as old as timerโฆerrrโฆโฆa Dodge Journey
oh man, must not be an interference engine! otherwise she'd be in for more than just a belt change!
Eric, giver some money to buy you a few lottery tickets.
Should put that on the "just rolled in" channel ๐
That belt probably wasn't that stretched to begin with or surely would have spun out on her.
Basic 170000 mile timing belt maintenanceโฆ.
I guess maintenance is overrated after all it ran trouble free ๐๐๐
Thank goodness for an automatic tensioner. If it had been a manual tensioner you'd be doing a different job today
Talk about good timing…
Variable timing. Lol
Not even a cam/crank disagree code?
Thereโs you some slingshot ammo ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐๐
That's just called getting your money's worth.
Lol.
Bringing it in when she did really had no bearing on it. . . . I'll let myself out.
Some days you get the gold mine and on others you get the shaft.
I canโt believe that didnโt let go and cause damage.
I think that she's lucky that it was caught before the failed bearing caused what's left of the belt tensioner to heat up to the point that it caused the timing belt to fail, which I suspect makes quite a mess of the valve train.
forever unlucky times coming right up..
The cover held it in place ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Lucky she brought it in when she did, that's some… wait for it… great timing!
ack ack ack
How did this thing not jump a few teeth. Is that engine an interference engine?
She needs to buy a lotto ticket… RIGHT NOW!
I think they just used up all their luck for the next decade
FIRST!
