In this video I have a look at a customers 2019 Nissan Armada 2x4 that has a customer complaint of leaking washer fluid. Ends up he was right. It is leaking and it is an easy fix.

Hey there viewers and welcome back to the South M Auto Channel that's a 2019 Nissan It's the Armada It's two wheel drive. it's from Arizona uh I Think these folks are moving in New York So they want an inspection. but they also said that the washer jug leaks so that's kind of weird. uh I've never worked on one of these, let alone seen one.

Uh, washer jug is inside this right front. uh Fender So we're going to pick it up, take the wheel off, pull the fender liner out and see what's actually leaking. Was just doing exhaust manifolds on a 2019. Chevy Half Ton They had about 30 screws on their fender liner.

It was crazy. This one doesn't look like I a lot. We got some plastic Clips in here. it looks like, well, this feels almost feels like it's after market I don't know.

Feels about as thick as a milk curtain. All right. Well, let's get uh oh, those might even be plastic. Yeah, they.

they're like little plastic retainers, some torque bits, and something to pop this stuff out with. Start with the little guy. Oh, they're not plastic I thought they were plastic I Got a couple Torx bit screws here. one here and one here if those are supposed to come off or not apparently.

So this had another piece that came off with it. Keep track of where things go here. don't work on a lot of Nissan We don't see many of them in our area, which is weird because we have a Nissan dealer pretty close by too. Let me get something different here.

I Suppose Oh man down. wonder what kind of paint they ran over? Besides the obvious answer, wonder where order ran over paint that color either? They come in there yellow or white. got something underneath here I Guess oh there's a plastic C Okay, any more. appears to have some screws under here.

of the 10 mm variety, all three are the same. All right. I Think that's it. Oh easy.

Oh I going. Say where the heck did our washer jug looks like it's full fluid? It's a leak I See see a drip right? There must be where the neck comes into it here. Oh now she's PP in. But yeah I mean that's the only snail Trails on this thing are right from this gasket.

It's just the filler neck here doesn't seem to really retain very well. mean you push up on it a little bit. Me: it's just this gasket. huh? That's kind of stupid.

I Mean the rest of the jug doesn't have any snail Trails on it. just you say. Right here by the filler spot, let's let it down and see what retains that thing in there. This clip that's I just dropped.

That's it. Let's all hold it in H Cuz I like to be proactive I bought everything before the guy come in. Um so Nissan only sells a couple for it the whole shebang here, the neck and then the packing. So we're just going to put a new, uh, new gasket on it.

I Don't think we need a new neck or anything. We'll just replace the gasket there, it's only couple bucks and then we'll get a new clip. I Found the piece that popped out. the bottom of it was broke, so chances are it's probably the only problem.
this thing just up here all. Cy Wampas. Oh now it's leaking dude. so we'll compare it to the new one and just change out that washer.

I Guess put a new clip in it easy and we'll just send the other stuff back to. Nissan She fits tight. Yeah, let's do that. Why not? Well, let's see if we can do this without getting on our armpits.

Take that bolt out. take that bolt out. Just hoping to get a little more room here. Looks like the only two bolts that hold this little guy in.

Oh yeah, we're going to get in our window little bit. We probably just pull the hose off the bottom. Let's try that. Let's drizzle a little bit out of there.

There we go. That one's peeing now. We're making progress so we'll let that drizzle out a little bit. The smart thing to do here actually would be to cut this hose off that we unhooked cuz they're kind of stretched over there.

We'll cut it off to a fresh end. chop that off cuz we don't want it to. Uh, come blowing off Now that we've removed it and whatnot, they're kind of stretched over that. Barb and if you take them on and off, they tend not to retain as well as they once did.

Okay, we're just going to lower it down here. leave everything else plugged in. We just want to be able to get to the seal packing here. There's that.

There's the old one. Oh wow. look at that it is. It's all chowed up.

so that's why it's leaking. Let's see, see if you can see it inh. look at that. huh? That's weird.

Would the Thunder would have done that? Put some brake fluid in his windshield washer resir? Who knows. But in comparison to the new one, get it up here in the light for you so you can see it night and day. Difference folks. you can just do this by feel.

All right. we're in, it pops in easy H that hes back up. SL This baby back up. Oh I See it's got a little tab in it sits up on there we go.

so it sits up there like that fancy hook this hose back up. Okay, now she's done leaking. Let me have a look in there and make sure I didn't miss anything. Yeah, it's got a little metal tab.

you know what? Let me, uh. let me just loosen this back up. I Just want to make darn sure I'm in that metal bracket how it's supposed to be slides. it actually doesn't set up on it.

slides into it that wasn't in the top half. Okay, that makes a little more sense. That makes more sense now we're in the hole for sure. Got the torque wrench here.

All right. let's let it down and stick The Jug in or the spout. Rather, make sure that slips in. Nice.

have a little look see here. Beautiful. So there's our opening right there. You can see the washers is in all the way so it'll just slide it in.

There's it up close. that thing. What in the world would have done that? huh? It's crazy. Oh, let's see.

can we hit it first? try. Oh yeah. Bit more resistance going in that one. I Got a new clip from our boxo Clips There it gets.
I Guess uh. before we put it together, let's fill it up with some blue water and see if it holds full to the tippy top. Yeah, kind of a crap design. The way that clip works and how much this thing gets wiggled.

you know, putting the top on, pulling the top off. it does get moved a lot. Stick a bolt in that baby. Well, it's not running right out.

I'd probably be inclined to put a bolt that really if it was mine. you you start wiggling that thing around a lot. huh? Well, whatever. we didn't design it.

definitely give me your thoughts on that though. Whatever you guys think happened I'd be curious to know your thoughts. There we're done. Wonder how a two wheel drive? It's just so weird seeing a car without a front axle.

Just wonder how long uh, they're going to keep it here in New York The old Salt's going to disolve it in a few years anyways. But Bo Two wheel drive fulls size SUV These things are going to be just about worthless. I would think I Couldn't imagine owning a two wheel drive two whe drive pickups. One thing you know, you pile some weight in it.

They're not too bad, but you don't see many folks driving two wheel drive anything around here. You know, front wheeel drive does good. Rear wheel drive doesn't usually do too good. There we go, we're all done, folks.

That's it. That was an easy one. Just a bad rubber leaking fluid that can be a lot worse in other situations. Uh I See, down in the comment section, somebody asked who who pays for all this that do I stick it to the customer.

Uh, the answer is no I don't uh Nissan Deliveries coming every day like all of our other deliveries and they pick them up and then that's it. They just credit us back to our account. so uh, not a big deal there, so don't worry, we're not sticking it to them. So nothing more to say.

leaky, leaky washer packing comment section down there folks questions Comments: The Insy: the Facebook you guys know where to find us by now and just remember viewers, if I can do it, you can do it. Thanks for watching He.

Had a friend's 2017 Hyundai i10 which had blocked its screenwasher jets, wasn't dirt, rubber inside the jets had swelled causing blockage. Decided to try an 1/8 drill up bottom of jet, drilled through rubber blockage, nothing to lose, hey, it worked a treat. Didn't even need to fit the one way valve I had bought.
This car always has lots of additive in bottle. A similarity here.

It might be brake fluid in the reservoir like you said. I dripped brake fluid on my Crocs and that's what it looked like.

Arizona heat and wobbling around neck sounds like the reason to me or they put the wrong fluid in at one time anything is possible. I know my washer tank is a one piece jobber and if it leaks its either cracked or the seal between the pump and tank has failed..

Between the arizona heat and the type of fluid they used, I am not surprised the seal failed. I have had to replace coolant tanks and one washer fluid tank on two vehicles because of cracks and leaks. The heat turns that plastic and rubber into crisp bread. Mixing fluid types, especially really cheap washer types, can do some really weird things to rubber. Don't ask me why, it just does. Some dumbass could have dumped some brake fluid into the tank but how can you mix up the two tanks? Oh wait, I called them a dumbass.

They moved from Arizona to Upstate PRNY? WHY?????

Great video as usual Eric O. If the parts supplier charges a "restocking fee" as some suppliers do, is that fee passed on to the customer, do you eat that cost or find a different distributor? I had to pee twice watching this one LOL. Funny, I bought a Nissan a couple years ago. Washers didn't work well and smelled real bad (chemical) same deal the rubber hoses were all chowder up, swollen, and leaking. I couldn't nail the smell but it was a toss up between ammonia or acetone someone had put in there. Had to flush the tank out and the pump finally started working again. Been good to this day. People are stupid.

Wrong rubber formulation. No washer solvent should destroy that gasket.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @CedroCron says:

That seal doesn't look like it was in right from the factory and it's all chewed up thanks to the Nissan quality of the seal and its exposure to the chemicals in the washer fluid which often times contain Methanol to prevent it from freezing but it acts like a solvent on rubber type plastic seals like this. Side note you never want Methanol on your skin because it passes the blood brain barrier and it's not good at all when that happens.

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @rhollyday says:

Some people add rubbing alcohol to the washer fluid to quickly melt windshield ice. It does freeze in AZ.
Being a Nissan, the "chrysler of japan," the rubber is of dubious chinese source, not able to withstand odd chemicals.

First snow storm they'll be trading that 2wd in for a 4wd. My guess on the deformed gasket is the sun beating on that fender in the Arizona heat when the tank was low on fluid got it very melty hot.
