In a previous video https://youtu.be/aWJLUzqK0r0 I had a look at a 2010 Kia Sedona that has a code P0016. I found a bad cam phaser solenoid that we think is keeping the bank 1 cam fully advanced. It is time to pop in a new on and see if it solves our problem. -Enjoy!

Do you happen to upload your good cam/crank waveforms to the web? Drive or anything?

Hello sir. I have a 2007 kia Sedona with a 3.8. Had a fault P0346, cam shaft position sensor, in the ecu. I replaced it. Now the fault (P0346) moved in next door, to the transmission control unit residence. The fault now in the ecu is P1692, immobilizer indicator lamp error… ?
Believe it. The check engine light comes on, after turning off the ignition and then turning it back on. I checked and found the immobilizer light sensor not working. I will pick that up later today. But for cam sensor fault going into the transmission control unit. That is not normal, is it?
The car runs like it has no engine oil when starting it up in the morning. For only 2 seconds. Then after that. It starts smooth and runing all day, is a charm.
Can you give me some advice on were to go from here. I would appreciate it hella much.
Like all your post. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you…

What scanner do you have? Software? I like that it shows you actual vs desired cam timing.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rich Starbuck says:

I am having a problem with intermittent missing on this same engine with bank one. Your video has helped me to understand what could be going on. This engine actually has 2 single timing chains and it could be the difference in the values. Mine has the chain rattle at start up because of worn chain tensioners, but not enough to replace due to the time involved. Thanks for a very precise explanation of the problem.

    The L is silent

    How wonderful you are, man

I just have a question in my head, does this intake solenoid cause knocking sounds when I start my car in the morning because I haven't opened this solenoid for more than 4 years?

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars christian ungapen says:

also I noticed your kia was taking a really long time to fire

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars christian ungapen says:

Great job! I just replaced the same one you just did. But have a question how you get out the other one behind it (left bank 2) trying to replace in pairs but when i try to slide it out it hits the manifold plz help?

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars codyfi says:

how much should this diagnostic cost?

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Dawson says:

So what size drill did you use, and how deep? Looks like I will need to do the same thing on my Sedona.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lonnie says:

The 127,000 miles has caused a loose timing chain. All is normal. Give the guy the advice to change timing belt according to manufacturer. Specs. Great job.

You are the best, just viewed 2008 Kia Sedona 3.8 VVT solenoid diag and replace, great info and well done, thanks much.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars AJ Prod says:

How much would a typical job like this cost? I have the exact same cost but don’t want to pay a fortune 🙁

5 degrees variation due to aftermarket sprockets or chain?

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Unicrom63 says:

You're pronouncing Solder correctly without annunciating the "L." Your COMMUNICATION is reaching the people. LOVE YOUR CONTENT. Carry on.

There are part swappers, and then there's this guy…

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stephanie Crocker says:

Have you ever seen an issue where the van rapidly turns looses power and makes it feel like a buck? We've been to 3 shops and they cant figure it out. One of them had it for 2 weeks before he told me the teeth on the timing was off 5 teeth. He put a new belt on and every once in awhile it will start bucking. Not transmission related because engine RPMs drop instead of rise.

    I LOVE BEANS!!!

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Duffy says:

How did you put it into flood moad so fast. ? Did u have it up on the scan tool or did you just hold the pedal to the floor. I know if you hold some cars matted they will go into a kind of flood mode so that the car don't start if it's matted wide open

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Duffy says:

Why are the new plugs wires both black.. sounds like they want you to short something out and boy more things from the dealer or from nappy lol

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Gurney says:

That PICO is a bad boy!

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bryan Tasler says:

I can't believe you soldered that. Nothing like a little intense heat, vibration, and moisture to ensure a durable repair. Is there a reason you don't like butt splices?

Not only will that solder not last, but you doing that possibly made it so the next guy won't be able to fix it correctly without cutting out the ruined wire or replacing the harness.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars micfec1 says:

Man oh man those Kia's are absolute junk!

The wire repair made me have a solder smoke relapse. I had to go heat some up and inhale deep. Nice job Eric getting deep down into that hole to get the job done.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danny K says:

You don't pronounce the l in solder, you just think it.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Weston Mickey says:

What diagnostic software are you using? I assume that program with the OBD2 clip is expensive

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Justin Ferello says:

I was hoping Eric was going to have to change the phasers, chain, chain tensioner and guides, as I need to do that with my Sedona but I am afraid. I have that horrible chatter sound for 1-2 seconds on startup sometimes.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars imortl69 says:

For soldering invest in some flux paste or liquid. It'll make your day on how easy the solder flows. Tip tinner will keep condition and shine your iron.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eric Corse says:

IMO and that of google you are pronouncing solder correctly.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Luke Stratton says:

Eric, Can you or someone else explain the way you stick the wires together before soldering? I've been doing this stuff for a long time and have twisted the wires and am just curious why you don't twist but stuff instead?

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Handy Andy says:

    sol·der Dictionary result for solder

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Josh Taylor says:

LOL….The look you got when she said, "….SERIOUSLY!?!?!" It truly scares me when a lady uses that word in that tone…lol. Keep up the GREAT work Brother

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stephen Cowell says:

I'll bet the offset is a wear indicator… either that, or it's related to the different ages/flows of the solenoids. Either way, run it 'till it quits.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Antonio Claudio Michael says:

The data on the pico looks great looks like it's running properly now very nice fix

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Antonio Claudio Michael says:

Suppose to use wet sponge after every use and clean the soldering iron tip off

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Brown says:

😅 somone really giving u grief on solder it's Sawda, saw-dah.. it's Patwa so it's correct enunciation to me 😁pat-wah.. Good job with the Kia

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars brian young says:

The offset must get interesting on a v style engine if the heads have been cut.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Greg Robinson says:

You say soldier the same way I do. Lol try having your wife correct you on every wrong way you pronounce something mine does all the time. Lol

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Hollfelder says:

Do they ever say “there’s no L in Autel”? 🙂
