Perfect.. I need to replace this on my grand-daughter's honda… I have the billet part already… Now I know what to do.. Thanks!
Thanks man! I didn't have a tube cutter–or a good pair of side cutters, but my little oscillating multi tool cleaned that plastic off the cable in a jiffy!
Look up Gene kim n Chuck missler on YouTube
This vid was made 5 years ago, but it is helping me repair a friend’s Honda now so, thanks for the information!
I just completed my repair. Your tubing cutter idea was excellent to get a nice clean cut at the back. I however, did not remove the latch assembly.. simply because I didn't want to make another trip in to the house to get any more tools. (LOL). Honestly, the hardest part was removing the left over plastic cable and tightening the allen screws. Thanks…
Excellent demonstration and of course Amazon help in having these hard to get but simple merchandise that makes our common fox like us a breeze to accomplish car repairs and save some money. Then YouTube have handy guys like you that makes showing the repair process a s simple as it can be. Outstanding and you have my humble gratitude.
This guy sounds exactly like Beetlejuice 😂
AAA + Thank You So Much > Great Video ? Big Help 2005 Civic EX California.
Only thing I'd do different is dremmel a flat on the cable end. Give the grub screw a better chance to bite and won't just slip off if it happens to work loose a bit over time.
Another method would be to drill through the handle, also remove some of the plastic on the cable end and again dremmel a groove at the tip. Then you can lock the handle in with a 'C' clip.
Mine just broke tonight, thank you so much! Gonna order one of these bad babies & install it on my Civic!
I can confirm that you do not want to cut off all of that plastic. Mine broke in such a way that the plastic ‘stem’ came off letting the cable go up into the sheathing. Had a fun time fishing that out with a pair of needle nose.
Hey, the price went down to $7.88! Even better!
Thanks, Eric.
What about the has one lol
Thank you much sir
Mine just broke off today
And I also ordered it from Amazon
"Feel the horsepower" lol
Thanks 🙏🏼
Another great video.😶🌫
Did you say you just pulled off the plastic panel over this?
80 hp I need this
I just found this video…my son's Honda Civic is much better now. Thank you!!
The box said 10 horsepower.
My Element h as the release recessed through a sidewall molding, so I used a needle nose vice grip to hold the cable pulled out while I worked on it., and a Dremel to expose just enough of the cable to seat in the new knob,
Thankyou ! Bc this the 2nd time my plastic piece broke and I finally gave in & bought this one but in color red to match my civic off of Amazon !
THANK s for the video. gonna upgrade my Civic latch just because of you and that nifty Billet Aluminum . 👍
Wire strippers work as well.
Fuck.. I should’ve bought this instead of a whole new OEM cable. Big brain fail..
The interior handle you pull to release hood is broken, it's been missing since I bought 2005 Civic. I use a pair of channel locks to pull the plastic bolt that latch was attached too. I don't need to replace cables or anything, just the thing you pull from inside the car that pops hood. That little plastic square piece is all I need.
I love this video , and I also needed to learn how to do it !!
I just replaced hood release. Cut the insulation on the cable using a dremmel with a cutting disc- worked great.
I appreciate the video.. we replaced our latch knob after see this…. saved the hassle of removing the whole cable
could you do one for the mazda 3, thanks
Oh yes, this is very common! I recently had to swap this cable/hood release over from my parts car: an ‘05 Civic, to my ‘02. This would have definitely been worth it, to have! I could have saved myself a 1/2 hr, right there.
On the positive side, the one on my ‘06 Ridgeline broke off a few months ago and now I know I can replace just that piece..
Thanks Eric O., for the vids on this Hondoo!
Great vid & "performance upgrade" !
Its called a wire stripper
I bet you get at least 50 more horsepower now!!
It help me out a lot …Muchas gracias 👍
Nice fix for a poor design.
Your a life saver bro thank you so much, mines broke the other day .
I couldnt see how you attached the handle!
Thank you sir. I appreciate you uploading this video, very helpful to me.
I love this video. You are funny and you know things.. 🙂 thanks for the enjoyable video
Thanks for the tips
show how to replease fuel and trunk cable on 2011 civic 4 doors .
Good idea
Thank you for using the pipe cutter. Lmao
Any advice on how to fix the cable if it's broken on side closer to the bumper ? My pull tab works just fine but the other end no longer latches on the mechanism.
Thanks 👍🏼
For me, you skipped the most important part—actually SHOWING how to remove the panel!
I assume their was installed loc-tite on the set screw, or you added such. I'd be interested in a Gas Cap cable failure replacement vid, LoL! A nightmare, usually.
Always enjoy your vids, and often learn something.
Looks easier with seat out
