In this video Eric O. has a look at a Cadillac that will not hold fuel pressure. Fuel pressure on a return type fuel system can leak one of three places. It can leak out the pressure regulator externally and internally allowing fuel to bleed back down the return line. It can leak out of the injectors and it can also leak back on the pressure side if the fuel pump check valve is bad. The question is how do you know where it is going!? Pay attention we are about to find out!

You’ve got my subscription brother thank you for the great info! Currently chasing pressure loss in my ls swapped s10 lol plug return lose pressure plug return and then feed and lose pressure so I may just have a couple of issues going on! 🤦🏻
You need to check your oil dipstick if you're experiencing this kind of thing.
Also, if spark plugs are accessible, see if one or more are wet.
I had a guy In a parking lot call me to come help in the snow.
He had things taken apart when I arrived and sent a cloud of atomized fuel about 20 feet up and out.
All I could say was, STOP.
He said , see ? I think my injector froze inside and is causing it.
Uhh, yeah?
Good thing there was no hot engine and no source of ignition.
We had to change his oil and stop that injector then limp it home on 3cylinders.
Crazy times
His lady friend was standing in front of the car when he cranked it.
Have a car IDENTICAL!!! to this in my stall right now. I remembered watching this a while back, and had to find it again tonight. Can't wait to get there in the morning and pull my injector to see if it sprays like this one did.
Enjoyed this immensely thankyou.
what scanner are you using
Excellent. Very interesting.
Down here where I'm from we call that pissing like a horse.
EPIC!
I love to smoke cigrits while working on fuel systems.
Very informative. Thank you Eric.
At this point, with the vehicle sitting for that long wouldn't it be best just to swap out all the injectors?
I once worked on a car in similar condition. I did a lot of work on it before it ultimately met its demise when the owner dropped a bolt down the intake. He forgot about it until he cranked it over and destroyed the engine.
Stick a piece to tubing down in the cylinder and pull vacuum on the fuel in the cylinder, suck up that fuel. Great video 👍
Have a 98 Dodge Ram Van. Came from California. think I might have ran down the problem? After changing just about every ignition component. Idling rough engine light diagnostic sign number 4 cylinder missing think it might be injector clogged runs really good besides for that no smoke no engine noise it did say that except for like 3 to 4 years was his aunt's and they gave it to him. But before it was dying off it start after a little while and then it died sometimes you could go three or four days and it just run wonderful but still you can smell the richness. But anyway was wondering about releasing the pressure off the fuel rail can I just unhook the fuse fuel pump fuse then turn the key on a couple times but not trying to start it to keep turning key on about 4 or 5 times and then go to the nut on the fuel rail and loosen it real slowly will that release the fuel pressure? Like to keep the van for camping body frame no rust and drive down the road better than my truck found out there was a lot of front end almost the whole front end is almost been replaced found that out through insurance report. Thank you
So if I clamp off the supply side and it holds pressure then the check valve in pump is good?is that with the return side still disconnected?how do I clamp off supply side if I have braided fuel hose?also if the injector/injectors are leaking by wouldn't it smell like gas after u shut vehicle off after it's been running for a while?
Dude awesome video!! thank you very good work
Yes you are a good person to help people understand
Pressure pipe of engine 5A
Fule pump max psi test on 05 4.3 vortex bypassing all but pump any way to do it
Having the problem with 1997 Tacoma, replaced all injectors. Going to do pressure regulator next. Starts hot fine and runs good, cold start hard and have seen a little gas leakage around regulator.
Good methodical Diagnosis Eric O very informative on How to Narrow down Fuel Pressure Psi Bleeding off Rapidly man That Fuel Injector is Just Gushing that explains why the engine was locking up Good Video as Always @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Man I learned a lot…I'm working on a Polaris Ranger and all your information enabled me to fix it and I thank-you!
You are Very thorough and it is nice to learn from someone that diffenly knows what to do. I greatly appreciate watching your videos. Thank you
It’s a gusher !
I have braided fuel hose.could I crimp that without it damaging it to check my regulator and fuel pump?
YOUR VERY GOOD AT WHAT YOU PRESENTED EASY TO UNDERSTAND THANK YOU
Great video!

Tsunami injector
If the oil smells like fuel, a leaking injector is likely. Which one needs to be determined.
I have a 2015 Chev Malibu with 177000 km and it shows code 0089 and code
0016. Code 0089 says it's the fuel pressure regulator and the 0016
says it's the bank 1 camshaft position sensor. I called the dealership for the price of the FPR and they tell me they don't have one on the computer. A dummy like me believes him because I don't find any videos of anyone working on the 2015 which seems to be different than the others in the engine. Any information would be a appreciated as I have no clue where to find, even the line to fuel pressure test. Thanks
If a lit match dropped into that cylinder, perhaps take care of a hydro lock condition? Great video !
I'd reason that injector was all varnished up while closed, and permanently stuck open the first time it was energized. I'd send all those injectors to Mr Injector and he'll get them good as new and flow tested for the price of 1 or 2 new injectors.
great work Guys…
now if I just had all those tools
See what plug is soaked??
Thanks, great analyses
My system holds pressure throughout the day, but loses pressure over night. I've changed the the regulator and the fuel pump but still loses pressure over night. (no codes) I prime the system and it starts. Where do I go from here?
Great video. Perfect timing for me to see this one because I'm currently dealing a similar situation on a 1989 F-350 dually with a 460. This will help guide me to thru the process to narrow down what my issue is. Thanks a bunch for showing us this process.
Do you think it would be possible or easy to locate the leaking injector using a stethoscope?
Yes agree with all , great diagnosis
This is an amazing mechanic! Very good Sir, and you’ve helped me to go somewhere with an issue I’ve got on my older f150 with a 4.9 EFI. Thanks so much Sir! Wow, yes it was definitely spraying like wide open like no injection was there like you have equated on this video! Never will have thought an injector could as you say leak the volume it did… just wow, wide open like not there…
Great diagnosis. I am currently experiencing pressure loss overnight on a vehicle causing a rough idle / long crank on start up but all the lines are either plastic or metal, so nothing can be clamped to isolate specific areas of the fuel system.. Any tips ?
Amazing diagnostic .👍
I hope my car never has that bad of an injector. That was bad.
Look like a Cadillac
he prob enhardened the vehicle through a family member. it was sitting for years. I would just put a new injector in it and fire it up.
Could you remove the spark plug for that cylinder for view of the top of the piston?
will you change oil?
Good explanation of how to check a fuel system good shit I love you're channel.
Followed your advise with a job that came in today for non start, purchased a fuel pressure tester and turned out to be fuel pump pipe inside fuel tank had split and was leaking internally not holding fuel pressure!! Life saver 100% answer! Proved and verified. Just had the happy job of dropping fuel tank and replacing split pipe. 👍
Couldn't you have just pulled spark plug?
