All right, let's test it. Trying to get this thing centered left and right and up and down. I Don't want to drill sideways lubricant. it's very soft.
At a minimum we're going full send. The threads are looking real nice. I Like it. Go ahead and thread this inserts into position.
Thread it down and I think it's locking in. It's not want to go any further.
I did that on my riding mower transaxle, but w/ jb weld. It worked fir 5+ years
I love time serts, they're so much easier to deal with in contrast to helicoils
🔧👍🔧
Hahahaha!!
Alumininimum!!!!😂😂😂
Subarus are trash
Totally ignore the crack
You made that look way harder than it had to be
Thank heavens for Helicoils
Nice job Ray 👏
Aluminimum
Supposed to use thread locker
Helicoils are stronger than original threads
time serts, I love em
Why is it you Americans can’t pronounce that word
Nice crack in the housing
time-serts are amazing.
I would tell ‘em I need a new motor
What's up with that crack in the housing right above your repair?
I just bought a thresd repair kit for this same exact issue, bought a 02 subaru impreza from this lady and she told me the water pump was replaced, she was full of shit and only the bolts got replaced and in the process of removing them it took all the original threads with it
At least red lock tight that thing. I always do or sometimes i use a light coat of jb weld because i want that helicoil to be part of the hole not just threaded on it
Good tip to anyone that values their money. Don’t buy Subaru or ford.
Yeah, this repair would have been way more complicated if it required some sort of quality control lol. Specially aerospace industry -_-
1) drill using drill block. not free handed.
2) verify hole diameter using go/no-go using gauge pins
3) tap hole
4) verify threads using go/no-go thread gauges.
3) use locking insert like a Key Inserts
4) install insert using some sort of adhesive like aero glaze or other epoxy based adhesive.
Junk ass Subaru's I hate those things
Now, what are you gonna do about the crack?
Don't mind that fatigue crack, it's not important. 😂
Soft al-u-minimum
Looks like the block is cracked
Dam bro use a drill guide i used one on my exhaust manifold backyard mechanic 🤷♂️
Been there, those bolts are so fragile
hope you use red loctite 💭
The housing is cracked
Red locktite on insert. Oil on the install tool.
These are my fav inserts.
Was that a crack in housing above bolt repair???
Should of got a Toyota not a POS Subi.
Alu minimum
It's a SUBARU who cares !!!!!!
Into the water jacket he goes !!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Go in there like a BULL ,get the HORNS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
looks like theres a crack in it
Slow the drill bit speed down on steel.
Use a bigger bolt they've already ruined any flush seal that was there with the surface like that the bigger bolt will mean there's still enough metal to hold
I notice a crack next to the bolt hole that you are fixing, how would you fix that? I am not a mechanic, just saw it and am wondering. Thank you.
The area around the thread repair is where the water pump metal gasket seals. The surface is jacked and will probably end up leaking.
I didn't see red Lock tight 😢
"Let's test it" proceeds to drill it again
Aluminimum 😂
Heli coil
"Alright lets test it"and video jumps to him drilling it back out😂 is what ininitally thought 🤷😆
This comment section of wishing him safety after the storm is amazing. Some people are still good in this world 🙏🏾💜
As a Subaru tech I know that’s the water pump they are only torqued to about 6ft pounds so easy to mess up not saying it wasn’t the tech before you
I CAN FEEL IT COMIN IN THE AIR TONIGHT
I only use timesert on engines, nothing but the best.
So much better than helicoils
“Full send” what an absolutely annoying phrase.
Aa lu minimum
I swear jobs like this have me sweating and shaking like I’m on trial for murder.
Link for those new inserts you used
Time zerts work great.
Anyone else see the crack right by where he’s rethreading?
"Anumininum"
Nicely done mate
Have you seen this?
‘Extract Broken bolts from deep hole NEW easy

Use bar soap when threading soft aluminum it works really well 👍 just a hint man
Heilicoil threader kit.👍
Yay! time sert inserts win every time.
Look at that other 12 point bolt head . Unless that is to stop you from using 6 point impact sockets . Why 12 point ?
Should of put some red lock right on it
Hope the 2nd goes as well
I think you messed up it don’t you
Looks like a crack there.
So I've heard of a product called "Nutserts", is that what u used here?
Good job. Harder to do than it looks.
You gotta watch playing music in the background bro copyright youtube will get ya
Timeserts rule!
😢 subaru
Time certs are awesome
It really looks like a crack right there
Awesome job! I had to do a thread insert on the head, by the water pump a while back first time I've messed with it, it worked flawlessly!!
I can see a crack
Those Time-Serts you are using are tapered at the bottom ends and need to be inserted properly with the driver tool to lock the insert into the material being repaired. The way you do this is to continue threading the driver all of the way through the insert after the insert is fully seated. This forces the tapered end of the insert to expand and lock into the material being repaired, preventing the insert from backing out.
Did you use Red Loc-tite on the insert????
Mythinks Subarus are expensive junk but that’s probably good for mechanics. The boxers seem spent at 90k.
For situations like that, I make a drill plate with brake line tubing as a guide.
Satisfying
Anyone else see the Stress line, cracked housing behind the bolt.
and once you tighten the bolt down the case will crack the rest of the way
Well done Sir!
Subaru, the worst vehicle we ever owned.
So glad that it no longer occupies a place the the driveway. No Subaru ever will again.
You are a genius, be safe ,
Junk it! It is subaru!
The owner of that car is going to report it stolen 😂cause you've had it so long 😂😅
Junk Subaru!!!! Buy a real car
Mi padre solia hacer insertos como ese con pernos a los que en el torno les abría un agujero interno y lo roscaba. Luego conoció los comerciales como este kit o los helicoidales pero aún recuerdo las tardes usando el torno
You are a F'n magician damn bro the pressure of doing that and let alone recording lol very impressive
TIME-SERT is much better than helicoil
Hope you put some lock tite or thread locker that heli coil.
I work in a non-automotive profession that frequently uses those helicoil inserts. They don't last for Jack.
Beautiful job ray like always
Hint: the proper cutting fluid for aluminium is actual alcohol and you can also use brake cleaner that will give the shiny thread cut. Cutting oil is for steel. Rocol makes a superior product for aluminium ULTRACUT EVO 280.
I have chased holes on subaru blocks with taps with a lot of success. The torque on those arent very high so its doable.
This is fake or you got the editing mixed up.
