Priceless information here. As someone who learns from others mistakes or accidents, my AC lines were underload too. And going into this job blind its nice to be aware of things like jacking the transmission and just being ready with a plan, having the front tires off. Where did you pick up your engine from. I am replacing my engine as well. Right now I have it out sitting on the rotisserie and I've been searching for a new long block. To drop into my 2004 Silverado. But the wait time for me to get it is from 4 to 6 weeks out.
I enjoy and learn from this extensive engine teardown. It shows parts and their use and TOOLS. Being an old(71) guy this becomes more important as I do not want to give up on my car(s) yet.
How do you get a reasonable junkyard engine? Pick a truck who's backend was run over by a train, leaving the front untouched?
Hi my name is Arthur and I'm working on a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 I took out the 4.3 leter V6 and I'm putting in a 5.3 V8 LS1 motor back in it everything lines up but I have a problem with some wiring it's the big thick Red wires there is about 6 to 7-8 of them I need some feedback so I can hook up my connectors that go under the fuse box to those wires so can anybody help me please

I just moved the hood to the service position by relocating the spring arms to the rear bolt but I see you don't have high enough ceilings to do this and then raise the vehicle.
i have a friend that was reaching over and reving his engine and the fan blade on rhe motor came off and chopped his arm almost completely off they saved it but was a super scary accident ill never forget.

Can someone with no experience swap an engine? I have a huge garage and will get engine host /stand etc. I swapped a V6 to V8 when I was a kid but nothing since. This is a 2009 suburban XLT 4 wheel drive 5.3L 4 wheel drive

If you ever got to do an engine swap, keep the old , throw it on a stand and start tearing into it. It's a great learning opportunity and you might be able to just rebuild it and now you have a back up motor.
It would take me 5 yrs to put all those parts, bolts, brackets & wires back in the right place.
I like to see if I can do this or spend the ridiculous cash to have someone do it for me

I know this is a few years later, and you have a bunch of new equipment! but I still think you should have some sort of ceiling mount gantry that can pick a motor out from bay 1, and be able to move it over to bay 2! get rid of that dangerous cherry-picker! You could have a four-post steel mount, from floor to ceiling, if the roof is not strong enough! you know those pickers can roll over when you least expect it! but you got the shop! You always say, work smarter! not harder!

I'm also a big fan of the engine swap videos, I guess it goes without saying, but not for some of us, during the entire introduction you just kept saying the engine, just thinking ok but what engine is it? Maybe you will say later on what engine is in it and what are you replacing it with. Anyway I'll still be a big fan, I enjoy watching all your videos, I've heard you say you aren't a car guy, I find that kinda sad, I only say that cause you are so damn good at what you do, and I can only imagine the cars or trucks you could build. You do great work and I hope if you ever are trolled you don't pay it any mind, your skills are far superior to any of the commenters that think they know better, keep up the great work.

Is this a job I could do? I'm being told $9000 to replace. I can buy a remanufactured one for $2900 and now have a huge garage. I'd like to try and save $6000 doing it myself but am a little intimidated not having much experience lately.

My 2002 GMC 5.3L is on its second engine… First went for 325k.. second is at 255k and still going strong. They are solid truck motors as long as you change the oil every 5k and get rid of dexcool.
I always hate it when I go to start cooking a vehicle and realize I forgot to thaw out the bolts… wait…

Odd that it lost that much oil pressure for that mileage. I've seen many non DoD 5.3s run for around 300k miles when serviced regularly.
