Outer tie rod end ends are worn too…should not wobble that much IMHO .. and then you add the steering box issues… And no wonder it's all over the road.

Question on the "purple" smell. I assume that it's of the green consumable variety… I would be concerned with taking such a vehicle on a test drive, even as a technician. I could see getting pulled over and how that conversation would go…

My uncle (dads brother) had a 79 F 150 that needed a steering gear considering the fact that it took 1 full turn and a half before catching to actually turn the truck and he drove one handed and about 75 MPH everywhere he went really sketchy and terrifying to be in he still has the truck but hasn't driven it in probably about a decade just something I felt like sharing do to this particular truck needing a steering gear as well
Some folks can't afford newish cars, rent has gone up, food, you name it, as long as we have an "automobile society" people have to drive to work and everywhere else.

I frequently say that if you're going to alter your vehicle, you need to go bumper to bumper and engineer the entire vehicle. Don't just slap dash a few things and pray it'll work out.

Lift kits tend to lower your trucks towing capacity and stress driveline and suspension components. Also they raise your trucks center of gravity making it more unstable around sharp turns! You need to restore your driveline angles otherwise your lift kit will destroy your truck! 🤔
Does the steering shaft have a rag joint? I'd check that before replacing the steering box. Scary truck!

Ah, so that’s probably why my old truck still pulls to the right after an alignment – the worn out steering gearbox. I have to hold it at about a 35 to 45 degree angle to the left for it to stay straight on most roads. I can see that throwing off the tech a little when centering the wheel, even if every other steering and suspension component was replaced. 🤔

Better tech than I. That truck is hammered. You tried and that's all you can do. So frustrating when we see beat abused vehicles. I know it's expensive to fix this stuff yet if you pay for a diesel truck you expect cost repairs.

Some of the "declined work" stuff you get scares the crap out of me. Do you guys in the US have vehicle checks like the UK MOT? (Yearly on vehicles older than 3 years). None of that ropey sht would pass muster here! Random question if you see this comment Ray – I want/need to get my wheel alignment checked at a local tyre place as they will be fitting new front tyres. They do free Hunter laser alignment check – but I suspect its a free check with guaranteed "not free" work needing done. I was wondering if there is anywhere online to get the alignment specs for my car (2016 Audi Q7), as I want them to prove it is out of spec first. I never normally use this sh1tty tyre place, but they were the only place that could source my tyres quickly (I have one that has some inner cord badness, so wasnt leaving that !!).
