Customer Customer States Mechanic Fails Engine Transmission Gas Diesel off road race 4x4 street car daily driver scam dealership dealer technician how to

Oh, check it out! This car's got two different Keys one for the door and one for the ignition and that's on purpose. That's right, you've got a 1990 Ford Mustang 5 liter Fox body GT and she is mint. Look at this classic example. beautiful vehicle.

Look at that guy customer. States Fuel leak. That's right. They had a custom exhaust installed and it appears that the exhaust piping has melted a hole in the fuel system and it is leaking gasoline or has melted and burnt up.

Uh, fuel line? something like that. It's manual Hurst shifter. Check that out clutch in begin starting the engine. I Love this thing.

Sounds great at a rolled over 1365.6 miles on the odometer. Check that out. Will that be something if that was original miles on this thing. Wow.

All righty. Power windows down because it's super hot in here. Let's see if the AC works. Perhaps it does.

I Love this car. Man this is the stuff that like we had in high school back in the day. Look at this guy. Beautiful.

sounds good Ring ring. uh, fuel leak or not, we're gonna have to go for a ride. Definitely need a test drive on this unit. All right.

So I may have exaggerated fuel leak just a little bit. It does have an issue with the fuel lines. nothing crazy, but we're gonna do a full inspection that will include a test drive. Once it's on the rack, we can take a look at those fuel lines and see, uh, see what's going on with it.

I Think they were routed too closely to the exhaust and the outside of them is kind of melted from the heat. So uh uh, we're just gonna go on a test drive. Like I said, we'll throw it up in the rack, inspect that fuel system. We'll inspect everything else down below and make sure that it doesn't need any additional.

uh TLC Then we can go from there. so stay tuned because this is going to be a very good video opening. Z hoods is our brake rotor. There was a great rudder.

runs good, drives good, she shifts good, she sounds good. This car is pretty good. Hey check out the dome light, look at that! Classy! So far so good. We're headed back to the shop Let's Get Let's get us eating up on the lift.

Check out the underneath carriage, we'll check out the fuel lines and we'll look for anything else that may be of concern. Get ourselves over the track here and uh, all right, where's that hood latch released? Where are you? Oh there you are. Pop the hood. See what we have in here? How do I get into that? uh, the paint's so shiny I can see you I can smell it Aaron where's the hood release in these things? Oh there it is.

gotcha. Oh yeah. shutters look at that. Shiny Nice.

So I can't help but notice to see some shiny performance stuff. but we've got some uh, ignition components that look like they've been here for a while. I'm just curious. Let's pop the uh.

Come here. There we go. Let's pop this rotor off or cap off real quick. I Just want to see what's down here.

The survey says a little cross-o-matic in there. look see that some corrosion on the rotor button, a little bit on the contacts for the wires I bet this thing could go for some modest tune-up action here. Get that guy clipped back together. Get on there.
Oh, these were not the easiest to do. There's one side and side number two. I need a screwdriver for this? I think I can't do this one-handed guys I don't have the flangy strength or do I think I can do it? Oh, it's becoming a challenge. I've built it up too far.

one finger distributor cap. no I can't I just can't or can I Oh, not that side. Come on. Oh no I can't I admit defeat.

That's a two-handed operation right there. and maybe even a tool. Get on there. I know.

Nope. There we go. Let's make a whole video about me poking at a uh, a little clip on a distributor. How about that? I'm here.

It's gonna be embarrassing if I get defeated by a little metal clip and it got defeated by a Subaru again. I Fixed threads in a Subaru engine yesterday and then immediately stripped out more threads in a Subaru engine yesterday. Not fun. Yeah, it's the same one too.

Same Subaru that I've had for like four months. All right. I Think that's enough? Uh, five liter, Uh. high output tourist activity for now.

Let's get back to uh, the point of the program here. Black subscribe button black Mustang Moving on up the rack is set both sides. Let's get underneath here and take a look at that exhaust setup and see what has happened here. You know this is weird.

Uh, being a former GM Tech I do seem to be in Ford Country these days. We got a 2022 F-350 or Six Seven diesel 1990. Mustang There's the 98 Mustang over there that's a Hyundai that doesn't count. but yeah, I've got uh I have a disproportionate amount of four products around here.

All right. Well, this is a very bare minimums type of design. Early 90s, 80s designed. You can see it's got a new exhaust system here.

there's our tailpipes. We're giving it an inspection while we're taking the exhaust tour as well. Looks like we got some flow Masters two of them. That's interesting.

Look, this pipe is actually welded to the Flowmaster It didn't press in with a clamp. Okay, see how this side has the clamp. This is what I was talking about uh, earlier with the previous Mustang that I had worked on. See how this clamp right here puts a dent in the metal? Well, that's going to kind of crimp these two components together.

the muffler and the pipe. And so even if you take this clamp off, you can have a very hard time removing these sections of a pipe from each other because they have that crimp in them. Which is why I Don't like those types of clamps. Not my, uh, not my favorite.

See it's got a new age pipe. New Cats this thing got all yeah, yeah, see right here. These are the types of plants that I like because you can get the pipes apart if you need to disassemble. That's good stuff.
One over here, there's our headers. Again, our tubular manifolds. Rather many fold. The word manifold derives some Latin roughly meaning many fold.

That is my understanding of the origins of the word manifold. Fun fact of the day: I'm a scholar. Okay, here's something to note. Look at there.

the harmonic balancer is starting to come apart. See how the rubber is indented right here? that little rubber ring in there? Nothing major, but it is starting to, uh to lose that rubber. Another fun fact: a harmonic dampener that is broken can also break your flywheel because it does not dampen crankshaft vibrations. Aaron Did you ever hear that after breaking a flywheel? you run it long enough? I mean I I Never seen it.

Oh what I'm more concerned about is the vibrations you're gonna get from somebody hacking on your fan like this. Look at this fan clutch. Oh My. God Dude.

Holy Hell. I Cannot believe this. You want me to do that for you? No, that somebody did that. Someone did that.

Yeah this whole time we've been questioning this customer and I asked him I see look at the turbo bolts right here I had asked them I was like did you have any work done to this I Go. How come it looks like a socket has been on that bolt? Oh yeah, look at that witness marks all over the place down there. Well check this out. Keep off this thing.

brand new and he has never had it in for any warranty repairs. So I wonder if there was something done internal at the dealer before he even took purchase? and then it even makes sense here. Look at the trim clip right there. That trim clip for a truck that's never been taken apart should not be broken right there.

That little white Town yeah I See a tree through there? Yeah right there. I See it. They did not put it back. Somebody screwed up something.

All right. The Ford tour is over with. We've got to figure out what the complaint is with these fuel lines. They said something about fuel lines having a hole in them or leaking or rubbing.

I didn't see anything leaking so they got to be rubbing on the exhaust. All right. So here's our filter unit and one line right there going forward. It's a return line.

We got a winner There we are. The line has been rubbing on the exhaust or touching it or melting to it. It's a close call. Look at that.

Uh-huh So I need to repair and or replace those fuel lines. So I kind of should maybe think about rerouting that fuel line that is awfully close to the exhaust. Don't you find? I think it's uh, Too Close yeah I I You know what? I think I'm gonna cut that. We'll cut it and reroute it somehow.

Some way maybe tuck it in behind the strap right here and loop it around then up to the filter. but that's got to be redirected. Uh, because this is no longer safe. Let me go hop over to Uh to my parts catalog and see if I can't find some extra line and some connectors and things of that nature.
Okie Dokes First things first, let's go ahead and get this right rear wheel removed I Had to bust out the wheel lock set it has spline Drive Doesn't it figure we're going to be in there dealing with these fuel lines? So I had better get this wheel out of the way nut. gravity one down already. last one. it's a very nicely reconditioned wheel.

We're not going to scratch that. uh. that. finish there? Nope.

Nope, nope. Coming on down. Alrighty, let's see how much that kind of helped us out. Not much, really.

At least we can reach in help maneuver these lines around a little bit. I think the fuel Tank's gonna have to come down because I can get to these fittings right here I cannot get to those things on top of the tank and I think I'm going to try to replace those entire line assemblies. Alrighty, let's go fetch the transmission jack. that's the blue one out here and we will, uh, we'll get that fuel tank supported.

That thing scared me I moved this and the arm went like that and I thought it almost hit me in the uh, the region and we'll move you out of the way, engine hoist, move you out of the way overhead creeper and it's all this schmoo one in my Jag I didn't do that. Anyway, whatever's rolling on and let's get that fuel tank supported right about here. Looks good. Okay, we'll close the valve, check it up when we have contact with the tank, I will take the two straps loose, and then we can lower the tank down some to get to the connectors on those other two fuel lines one eternity later and contact almost.

Oh, that's all we get. Hmm. okay, try again. let's let her down some and I'll just let the car down a little bit.

There we go. Mustang Coming down just a few inches there. we go. Dude.

now try again. Contact. So alrighty so it appears okay. Looking up here, we've got looks like two 13 millimeter bolts that secure the strap to the chassis.

Let's get these guys out. Loud Noises. Um, not enough. All right.

He had to step up the caliber to the 3 8 drive. It should produce a little bit more. Breakaway Torque action. Let's try again.

Loud on clicks. There we go. Yeah, all right, that's one strap coming down. Get my bolt back, thank you.

and the second strap is up here. buried behind those fuel lines. You need an extension. All righty.

Extension Coming in. Squeeze past those fuel lines and unclickages. Okay, too much extension here I Know, let's try. that's 13 wobble extension this one.

I Think that's a 13. Dipper Don't need that trying again. Round 47. these impact extensions tend to, uh, deliver a little bit more torque.

Okay, going back in, let's make some light work of that zip tie right there. Get ready to you. Let's get a free up the strap right here. Let this guy down a wrist and we can slowly lower the tank.
now. I'm not going to remove the tank entirely. We're just gonna let her down just enough to kind of reach back in there and get a hold of those fuel lines that are on top of the pump. I Believe I Can get in there and reach again.

I Don't want to come down too far because it still has the filler neck attached and evap stuff. So let's uh, go ahead and pull our valve out or rotate that. keep an eye on the prize up above and just kind of let her down. Slow there we go good, close our valve back off and I think I can reach up there and get a hold of that stuff Okie dokes.

So taking a peek above our fuel tank, we're still on the passenger side. We've got one of the fuel lines coming in and there's another right there. I'm gonna pull both of these lines off the vehicle. they both run up to the filter and that other, uh, another line above the axle.

but we're going to disconnect these guys from the pump. back here first and go ahead and pull them out. I Can't seem to get the little clip to unclip. it's full of dirt.

Yeah, it's the thing's in there. Pretty good. come out clip. Uh, two-handed operation.

There we go. Ah, it's leaking fuel on me. No worries, it'll dry up, it's only slightly flammable. and then there's that other line and another clip and that one is broken.

Feels broken I don't know I can't barely really see it I think I need a tool to depress the little pins in there. It's yeah, that's been broken before the clip. I'm gonna be right back. All right, let's see if we can't pluck that guy out with some miniature, uh, pry bar here.

it's just got two tabs on the little retainer clip on there. just have to depress the tabs and then we can walk the fitting out. Yeah! I think they've been, it's been broken before I got past one tab. The problem is I put pressure on the other tab and I can't see.

Oh, that's not smart. yeah I can't really see that. other tabs I don't know where to push on it with my uh, my driver here and just wiggle it and hope for the best. Nope.

futile efforts. We turn it around so I could see. Yeah, yeah, there's plier remarks on that uh on that little tab. I'll show you guys when I get it out.

That thing's in there good. Oh, my phone's ringing too. Ultimate distractions. Come on Go Baby.

Go! Oh. failed. Okay, patience is thin. We're busting out the side cuts.

I I Don't care. it is being chopped off. goodbye connector. We're almost twisted around again so I can get a hold of that a piece of plastic there on the connector body.

Get it right in there with my clips and it snip. Yeah, that's pretty tough nylon or ABS plastic took some considerable hand strength to make that cut. Okay I got one side. Let's do an opposite twist around.

try to cut the other side tight. Squeeze folks tight. my face is on a fender. Snippets Oh come on.
I Managed to cut, but it's still hanging on. Okay, no mercy. pry bar tool thing. I'm just gonna break it some more.

This wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't been boogered up and molested and cried on with pliers and whatever else. And now I'm over here cutting it with side cuts I Have to Ford sure didn't want this fuel line coming off. I'll tell you that. Oh man.

All right. one more time here running out of patience. Flip it, turn it. All you need to do is pry down that little tab that I cut and it'll release from the clip there.

Ah, there we go. I got it. A lot of work for uh Stupid fitting. Look at that.

yeah, mangled, no bueno and the Locking section of it. the real mangle part. Look at that. That's why I couldn't get the thing out.

Those are the tabs right there. You're supposed to depress to release the clip and they're all mangled from somebody hitting them with a pair of pliers or whatever. So these are junk. Now the easy part.

We can get to the two connectors right over here at the fuel pump or fuel filter. Rather, fuel filter, not pump. Silly Rabbit. All right.

coming in with the little mini pry bar one more time and we're gonna unclip these lines from the hard lines. Let's get an angle on that connector clip. There we go. Push that guy through.

Oh yeah, that one's removed. Set that guy aside. I'm gonna make a new one later then this one. We've got that clip there that secures the line to uh filter.

Pull that through and this guy should just pop right off of here. Get some wiggled actions. There we go. Let's get out of the way.

It's dripping fuel on us I don't want the fuel soap and that's our second line removed. Good Okay, so I ordered the fuel line repair kit. It is in route so what's going to happen is when I get A When I get the repair kit. We're gonna make new connectors or repair these ones somehow some way and then reattach everything with a new fuel filter in the in the vehicle here.

What do I need for this filter? It looks like just an eight millimeter. There's one more connector. Over Yonder Okay, all right, going back into our fuel filter here. let's get the uh, the output side of the line disconnected from the filter.

That guy right on out Maybe get stuck. What do we stuck on here? We'll try it from the back side here. Foreign I think I got it from the back. It all felt like it, uh, slid properly here.

Gotta pull that clip out almost all the way. Yeah, like you can't just release it and then it'll let the line go. You gotta fish the thing out. This is how they get all mangled up.

They get stuck with dirt. Come on you alive. Ping got it broke it. See that look.

broke it right there. Well, since it's broke, let's just break it more. The clip, not the uh, not the actual connector. I Can just put a new clip in the connector and we're good.
We couldn't see I'm bad cameraman. Hey you guys remember that video where the guy was drilling a hole through the bottom of a gas can to uh to drain all the fuel out and the fuel started to Spill and it got on his drilled and his drill caught it on fire. That's not what's gonna happen here. Okay Fuel filter, You're coming with me.

Oh, it's a purolator filter. It's pure Pure for lading. There we go. Part number: Foxtrot 63169er over.

It's got a flow Direction input side and output side. Just throw you right in there. Okie Dokes we return. I've had some parts deliveries I've actually had a boatload of Parts deliveries.

um I Found out very quickly that the replacement fuel components fuel line components for this Mustang are, uh, unobtainium and do not exist. so I'm just going to have to make my own. So I Ended up getting a hold of a a Master Fuel Line Repair kit. It came with: I think uh, 5, 16 and 3 16 Fuel line about 16th and 3 8.

I have many different types of connectors the appropriate ones I have already sorted them out I've got. let's see here, there's our 90 for our 3 8. That's our straight ahead and uh, that's the 316. That's where our return line and its counterpart.

Oh, it's around here somewhere. But you get the point. What we need to do here is make a new fuel line, protect it, reroute it, and then plug it back in. Additionally, I have a new Motorcraft replacement fuel filter because that other one was a little crusty.

So we're gonna do the two fuel lines. there's the piece. we're gonna do the two fuel lines and a fuel filter and I'm gonna reroute it past the exhaust because I seem to have some extra here. That way it does not, uh, burn through and melt again.

Okay, the first thing that needs to happen here is I'm going to trim the end of that off. It's not looking the greatest so we're just gonna. We're gonna cut that off, see if the cut end is any better. Sort of okay.

I believe one of these. just need to read the instructions and see how these things are pressed in. There's like a jig in the tool and you set up the jig, put the line in The Jig and then it will press the fitting into the line, providing a permanent bond between the line and the fitting. All righty.

So see how uh oh this is going to work here. This is obviously our primary tool and it has a jig that goes with it in order to press the uh the lines. I think that's uh, this little guy right here. let's open that up.

Looks like we've got two jigs here. Okay I guess that's the die. I'm gonna call it a die I Guess that's the business end on the Press side to press the fitting into the line. Okay, let's put that outside and then this the destruction.

Say it's an elbow connector holder. so this is for the 90s some kind of holder for the 90 degree fittings. I'll use that later. Okay, all right, so what we need to do is get our our Die for.
Like a better better term, they call it a straight connector holder so we have to get the straight connector holder in. uh in the clamping block thing right here so it's kind of real tight on there, just slides down. I think that's it. Okay then we take our connector and we Slide the connector over the connector holder.

Okay, so at that point let's just go the right way. Yeah yeah, it's supposed to pull it into the thing. Okay so now we need to take our hose and our hose block thing right here. and I think that's for the 5 16ths.

clamp that guy in and they gave us some little wing nuts here to secure it with. so I can wing nut it on here. Then we're supposed to wing nut this block to the little spreader bar thing on the clamping device. Let's uh, let's get this thing lined up here.

I Think that's how it's gonna go I'm doing it the wrong way spinner around there. we go okay with: Siri Let's put our wing nut on. What are you looking for? What do you see? Tell me now. A-Rod Searches the the box for miscellaneous items.

Do not judge me by how my pants look. It's in there somewhere. Oh your pants. Yeah, you're you're in Florida mode.

Yeah, you brought pants to Florida Silly guy. Silly rabbit. He's a silly rabbit. So anyway, so what we do.

It looks like we just clamp all this stuff together I adjust the block right here and when I adjust the block I'll go up with it some and we're supposed to just press this thing. press the line right into the connector. I Believe that's how this goes I don't know if it works, but we're gonna find out, aren't we. Let's push that up some there down some more.

Got to get it properly and correctly oriented orientated. Gotta line it up. Okay, let's see what happens here. Supposed to press right into the uh, the hose there Here we go give it a squeeze, it pushes in another.

What if I should have put Lube on this too late. Now it's past that first rib. See it? I Just keep pumping it down. it's pushing it in.

it's actually working. Look at that. Aaron Check this out. Dude.

this thing seems to have worked. What's this? I think so. Yeah, it's got this little die and a little pushing. whatever you want to call it.

Dang. Pusher against black? Yeah, it's a Pusher against the block thing thing and it legit. No way. Look at that.

That's that's legit. That's yeah. that's as best. I could have imagined.

It works. Did that come from 1980? I Made it just now. It's brand new. This is newly reproduced.

All right. So here's what we need to do. if: I just take the old fuel line and well, the one that's melting through and I simply copy this one. Then we're going to run into the same problem.

So we need to determine what route we want to want this fuel line to take. So what we're going to do and you can see here: I've removed the little retainer clip. We're going to take this guy over to the car I'm going to plug this in to the fuel filter and then we're going to determine how we want this line to run so it can meet up to the filter in the back of the car here and as soon as we know where we would like it to go. then we can trim it up and put the other connector on and then we'll put some protective sheathing over it and then we can make the other line the return line.
All right. So trying to run this through real quick is a sort of a mock-up. We know we have to be. we have to be behind the exhaust.

That's uh, it appears to be the preferred routing I Had talked earlier about running the line through that piece of frame right there. but I don't know if I can get it. that's very sharp. those are sharp bends.

Let me just try to go behind. I mean maybe I can go up and over the exhaust too I can try I could try that. follow the frame down and around, but that puts it in danger of the axle over here. I think I have figured out how I want to do this.

So we've got our output from the fuel pump and the factory line was going that way on this side of the exhaust pipe and that's where it melted through. So I'm thinking I'm going to Route it around and under the exhaust and then it can come up and into the filter right there. So I need to put a 90 degree. This is roughly how it's going to go I need to cut this guy right right here and we'll put a 90 on it.

So that's uh, we Mark that with my thumb we'll reach in and unplug our connector up. There There we go, We will cut her off right here and then press the 90 fitting onto it. Alrighty, so this next section is actually going to be kind of critical I Am not going to press the other end of this line just yet. We're not going to put another fitting in there.

Uh, Reason being is, although we seem to have rerotted it and measured it, what we did not take into account is the position of the fuel tank. That tank is about six or eight inches lower than it normally would be. So what I'm going to do is make the fuel tank side of both fittings, first connect them to the tank, then put the tank back up. Then we can press the fittings on the other side of the lines.

That's the plan. That's the new plan. That's the modified plan on the non-plan plan so this is the smaller size fitting. This is for our return line and we're going to go ahead and get this one pressed in.

So we're on our press block and I've already got the line in the little press jig so all we need to do here is slide her down. This one's actually kind of a tight squeeze so we have to compress that press Block in. It's like spring loaded or something like that. You have to press that in.

so I'm gonna get this to fit and line up. It won't go in any farther because this pin is larger than the ID of this particular fitting, but it should still still work out. Okay, I think we're we're going. Yep, she's going in.
Couldn't really see because I had to push the line in farther on this one, but it is in fact pressed in. Awesome. Beautiful. It's two down, two to go, so we now have one fitting set up on two different lines.

Come on! Wing Nuts become unnutted here we go. Plus the stuff. new new bolts. All right.

We can put our uh, a little plastic retainer clip back in here I Took it out so it would not become damaged when I pressed it in. but we put that guy back and we're now almost ready to go ahead and plug these units into uh into the top of the fuel pump. So let's grab this one and our feed line head over to the pump. Click these guys on, we'll put the tank back up, bolt it on, and then we can run run the lines over to the filter area.

So looking down at our connectors, we can see that they are different. but the hose sizes are the same so these could easily be confused if they were. uh, if they were wired incorrectly at this point. So we have to make sure to not get these things backwards in flip-flop.

Go ahead and plug in our little line here. Ah, click I Guess sure. and the big one that one's coming in next. Go ahead and snap that guy on.

Get on there please. It is stuck there. We go. All right, tells it.

snap in. Okay, so two lines installed. Let's flip the tank back up. Alrighty, that's two lines installed.

Let's go ahead and put the tank back up, strap it in, and then we can, uh, reroute these and plug them into the new filter. So I think next. we'll grab that filter and put it in its bracket over there. and then, uh, we'll start connecting everything.

All right. New fuel filter coming in. We've got the arrow indicating our flow. Direction So this guy.

let's give this axle a reach around here. This guy is going to plug in here now if you remember. I I broke that connector. but that is of a little consequence because I salvaged one of the connectors off the other line.

So I will just substitute this connector. Let's get that guy clipped in. Get in there, we go do that. She's in.

So now we put our filter right back in there and I can hang out until, uh, get the lines back on here. Let's go ahead and tighten our clamp filter kick. All right. That guy's secure.

Good to go Now you can see I've already gone ahead and started the straps for the fuel tank. so let's go ahead and tighten these down the rest of the way. real fast. Driver side passenger side is right above our Noggins here right up there.

I'm not even gonna say it there we go. Okay, let's move back out from down below and around to the passenger side again and we'll start to get these uh lines set up and plugged in. So we're gonna go ahead and do the easiest one first and that is our return line right here. I'm looking through the crack and I can see which connector is plugged into.
So we are going to Route this line first and like we discussed I want to like we talked about rather I want to go over the axle right here and then down and then up into its connector. So we're going to do uh, some kind of a loop here I think and as I'm trying to route that I'm realizing immediately that it's not going to work. It's uh, the angle is to run that in a loop over the axle is not going to work at all because the axle could potentially run into the uh, the fuel line. So my plan is kind of shot.

so I am now forced to follow kind of the original fuel line routing, but just not let it touch the exhaust. I Um I guess I can feed it behind this little strap here and loop it around so we can try that. It's better than what it was. Okay, so we're gonna go around the tank behind the strap and then do the loop-de-loop thing in order to meet that connector right up there.

So let's pull this guy through. Oh that's nice. It's gonna hug the top of the fuel tank beautifully. See that? Oh that's way better than the way it was.

Look at that flashlight, No worries. So here is our primary line. Let's untangle that real quick. got a little crossed uh across the stream some so to speak and that can hug the shielding on the fuel tank just like so behind the strap.

and then we can do the this little Loop business to connect this line too. It's hard line right there now we can cut it and then crimp the new one in perfect. other connector coming in and again I Removed the plastic retainer so I can just mock this up with these. so we're going to plug that in.

Here's our line coming from behind the fuel tank strap and if we just give it a little bit of a turn here, a little bit of a U-turn we can cut it off right there and that is going to be where we press this fitting onto this line. Okay, we've got our jig coming in. let's go ahead and put our our fitting over its holder and then sorry I see you sneaking in. Zip ties? uh the other other blue box on the wall there a top drawer, a whole bunch of them air needs zip ties.

Anyway, we'll set this thing up in The Jig Just like so get it kind of lined up-ish It's harder to do when you're not on the bench as you can see, but we're close. We'll put the wing nut in through the back side, thread that guy down. Get on there. There we go.

We'll threader down and clamp the hose in position here. See the hose right there, clamp it down, line it up just like that, tighten down the other side. there's two Wing nuts. one to hold on to the rod, and then one to uh, clamp onto your work and we'll go ahead and start the Press on this section of line right here there we go.

Going in trying to line it up so it starts. If it folds over and doesn't start properly, it'll ruin the line that would not be okay. Press it in. Pressing in, we bottomed out.
detach release in the survey says need faster Wing nuts That's what the survey says. Voila Nice! So I'll take the plastic retainer clip, put that back inside of the connector and if we Loop that around it will plug in perfectly, but we're not done yet I Need to put something over these lines to protect them after we get both of them, uh, all set up and in position. So what we need to do, we take our fuel feed line and run that along the same path. I Think Oh, get in there there we go.

Let's pull it through on the other side here. where's the other side at hiding? There it is this one. Come on out of there. There we go.

This one goes to a 90 so we're gonna. We're gonna run this up like so and connect it to a 90 degree fitting. So we probably need to cut it like right around here, but same procedure. We'll grab a fitting, set it up, mock it up, and then cut it.

Okay, here's our 90 degree fitting. We're going to use a 90 on this side of the fuel filter. So this guy is going to come in, turn up and we're going to connect it just like So Sue Right where my thumbnail is. So right here where my thumbnail is is where we can cut.

So let's go ahead and get that guy sniffed off. Then we'll pull our line down some we can get our connector fitting back and then we'll set this thing up in The Jig and press this guy in, turn it properly. Yeah, we need to press it in at the right orientation. Forgot about that.

If we do that wrong, we'll have to put a Twist in the line to get it to line up properly with the output side of the fuel filter. We don't want to do that. Okay jig coming in, let me fetch that fuel line. So we need the 90 opposite of where my finger is.

Let's oh, hang on I Gotta figure out how I'm gonna do this here. It's a slightly confusing so the 90 degree has to be here. So if I put the tool in, that means I'm backwards and I've got to do it inverted. Yeah okay, looks if that's my 90 at my finger and then the tool has to be like so wow.

So I'll hold it down here and I'll hold it inverted that uh I think that'll help get this thing set up. finger in the right position. slider down I think that's good my eyeball says so let's tighten it. oh you guys can't see sorry I was more focused on my tool and the orientation of the hose than the uh than the camera I am terrible camera man.

Anyway, we're gonna go ahead and clamp this down. That should be secure-ish Second one and a Moment of Truth where's my connector. It's in my pocket that's gonna sit in this uh, yellow jig like. so line it up with the hole right here.

Please be aligned. oh I'm unaligned. Try it again. Okay going back in.

take two, see if this is gonna work. This press is a little bit more loosey-goosey than the other method. Oh yeah, yeah good. It went in.
It's going to win in halfway. So uh hmm. now what do we do Ram it again three quarters of the way in. Okay here.

I Know we'll just move this up some and away from that relief there. Try that then. I'll shove this zip tie in here and that'll keep the uh, the body of this, uh, what you call it the body of the fitting from bending or flexing there. Let's do that.

Yeah, that's genius. I Love that idea. Press it right in and there's some there. we go now.

I can pull my little zip tie thing out, send it the rest of the way. Got her all right. that one is now connected. Let's get the jig off of here and we'll stick it on the uh, the filter up top.

See how she fits? Man, the concrete guys over there. they're going ham, cutting granite or something. We're making. uh, countertops.

They've been going pretty hard for about an hour here. Okay Moment of Truth how's my my angle of my dangle here on the sitting almost I'm like 45 degrees off. You can't spin that. Yeah, it's fine.

I could live with that little bit of a Twist so that one goes there and that one goes there. but we need to protect these. so let's go get some wire convolute and run the wire loom down. Uh, these.

uh, fuel lines. That way they can't rub through on anything and then begin leaking again later on. Yeah, I know this is cheating because this is for electrical line and not for fuel line. but um I don't have any fuel line protective sheathing business so we're going to use the electrical line stuff, which is how it's going to be.

We're just gonna slide that over. Oh my. God it would have been easier to do it before I Put the things on, You're right, you are correct, but this is also easy. Look I can put on wire convolute with one hand like a super power.

The new superpower. did it come through yet? Hey, there's some. Let's grab it and pull through. So nice, nice and easy.

We'll wrap it all the way around and bring it all the way up to the fitting that is, uh, up at the top of the tank there I had inadvertently pulled it all the way through, but that is of no matter. So now the whole line is protected. Let's go ahead and flush, cut the end of this off a little bit of a snip snap dude. and then we can send this back through behind the fuel tank, strap right there, send it right on in, push it through.

Very good. Come through our back side here, find our our end, give it the loop-de-loop and plug it right on into its line and clickage. There we go. Beautiful.

all right. One more time with uh with our 90 degree end, learn the easiest ways to just pull it back through so we're just going to do that There she is. okay. Round two: Slip some convolute over this wire, wire, hose, lines, whatever you call it, this thing I Can't do this in one-handed.

It's reluctantly fighting me there. We run that all the way up until it bottoms out on the other connector above the tank. especially around the areas where these lines come close to the uh, the frame. and look at that.
we have exactly enough. Like 100. Exactly enough. That was sweet.

Okay, let's run this. Uh. I'll run that connector back through and behind the fuel tank bracket again. Come down here, reach around, fish it out.

if I can find it. come here a little fitting I know you're in there I put you there. Where'd you go? Oh there it is. Pull that guy out and we need to find the Uh connector that goes in there.

Let's take our fitting, put our container clip back in, clip that guy on up. A little bit of a Twist plug her in. pickage. not yet there.

Nope. this connector is too fat. I need to trim it. Okay here.

let's just get in there with some flush cuts. trim this down ever so slightly. There's a raised area here and I think it's preventing these tabs from engaging the lip? Let's try that. All right.

Back up, slide you down in there, click you on round two, or three, or twelve, or whatever stickage and back that's secure. All right. Good to go and I do not think that that is going to have any issues with melting on our uh, our fuel system here. That's kind of close.

but at least it's Steel Maybe some zip ties to bring all this stuff together a little bit. Yeah, that'll clean the look up very nicely. Okay, all right. Zip ties coming in.

We're just going to clean this up and make it nice and pretty. We're gonna Bunch All these hoses together. Few lines, a few lines hoses. Whatever.

You know what I'm talking about, there's one. We'll get another one right. Back over here. I Lost it I Lost my zip tie.

Come here. Zip tie here. We'll do it like this. We'll Loop it.

zip it Walk It Out there. Let's go ahead and cut these guys off now. I'm going to cut that at a nice sharp angle. that way the uh, the next guy can feel it and he's aware that that's a uh, the aftermarket achievement right there.

See that? just a little bit of an angle just to let them know that it's there. It's a safety precaution so you don't get burned on the exhaust. Alrighty, Quick. recheck.

Everybody's plugged in. We're zip tied one more zip tie there. we're plugged in up here. everybody has Clips installed I Think we are good to go.

Let's fetch that flashlight that's lingering. Uh, we need to get the wheel back on and then we'll let her down and restocking Z Engine all right Okie Dokes Mustang Backing up and coming down Second Chance black subscribe button moving back up off the lock and down we go. Alrighty, we are in the home stretch here. Let's go ahead close the Bonnet relieve the prop Rod of its duties, close it up and then uh, we can go ahead and back her out right about.

Yeah, there we go. Let's give it a couple key on Cycles so the pump can prime the filter in the line and then we will restarting the engine key on. Do that a couple times here. shut down our uh.
climate control key off key on again pump should be coming on. Let's give it some crank action. see what she does. Neutral starting Z engine some gas I know it's fuel injected I know it is alive right? She lives.

very nice. All right guys. Climate control back on the rack is set. Reverse is back out.

Ziato I'm gonna go ahead and park this one. This operation is complete. Vehicle is complete. Fuel lines rerouted, no more melting unit.

So we are good to go here. So I haven't said that. I'm gonna go ahead and close this video out right now. I Will do such things as always by thanking each and every one of you for watching this video.

I really need one of those for my 385 block… But I need the coupe body. The hatchback and convert need too much frame stuff for the big dog. Uh, I think that car was not originally a GT. The 302 cars had 5 lugs. Only the 4 bangers had 4 lug in the Fox era…

Watching this, brought back a bad memory. I had a muffler shop(national chain) replace 2 mufflers and tail pipes on my chevy truck, with an aftermarket auxiliary fuel tank. When they were finished, i looked to make sure they were not hanging. At 4 am, raining, I got on the interstate, hit the switch for the auxiliary fuel tank, and 30 seconds later, the cab began filling with smoke. I pulled over immediately, as all my lights went out and headlights started blinking. On the shoulder was a guard rail, and a steep embankment. I told my wife to get our kid out, as I couldn’t open my door, because there was no room. The smoke cleared, and laying across the seat, I replaced the fuses. They got back in, and as I stepped on the brake pedal to put it in gear, all the lights went out again! I got to a wider shoulder and using the radio and AC fuses, got the brake and wipers to work. I left it in neutral, to start the truck and drive to a truck stop at 45 mph so I wouldn’t have to touch the brakes.
The muffler shop had pushed the pipe up til it touched the power wire to the fuel switch! The aftermarket fuel tank wiring had been wrapped around THE WHOLE WIRING HARNESS at the firewall!!! I had to pull each wire apart and tape them. All new fuses and just as many spares. The truck had 48 gallons of fuel and 40 lbs of propane! Plus my family! Now I have a shop I trust and they do all the work.

Well, if no one else has told you. You need to put the line end in hot water for a few minutes, take it out, push fitting into line, and let cool. Done.

Actually a really good tutorial. Like a lot of your videos kinda are. But this was almost a textbook lesson.

Forgot modest tune up. That beauty is prime for some go fast goodies as upgrades. New plugs, performance wires (think a nice bright red), new intake and plenum (or clean and paint) and upgraded electronic distributor. Hey, if it was mine…lol.

My uncle had an 88 gt with t-tops. Red with black stripes. Had the interior lights replaced with red bulbs. And a nice sound system. I remember being a kid 90s riding around with him. Love to find a solid project car like that now.

Thanks for the tip Ray Ray! I work at dorman and have one of these fuel line repair kits….didn't know you could do this with it. I watched your video and used the kit to fix my fuel line that was rigged together with a fitting and clamps

  88. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Zold says:

The fuel line melted because the exhaust was installed incorrectly. It looks like the hump in the exhaust going over the axle is too far rearward. If that hump was centered over the axle, it would be perfect and would not affect the fuel lines. Probably just cut an inch off the pipe where it meets the muffler and re-clamp.

What with the 4 lug ? That has a V8 usually 5 lug for factory V8 and it appears to be a 8.8 axle

Note to the owner : watch what happens when the harmonic balancer finally gives up on Hot Rod Garage, 50 degrees of timing was a bit much
