  1. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ron Oldenbeuving says:

GM 3.6l V6 alloytec motors were notorious for having undersized holes in the right side PCV valve that would gunk up. Once clogged, this would create issues with the timing chain tensioners, and of course the timing chains. They changed the hole sizes in late 2014. Prior to that, people in the know would drill the 2 bottom holes out to 5/32" and the top hole to 7/32"

I'm more curious about what caused that valve to contaminate that much? I'm sure it will happen again if not fixed

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D. R. Dotter says:

I really appreciate the thorough cleaning you gave that PCV, but I doubt the customer would mind if you replaced that $5 item with a new one.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars swmw81 says:

Ok 🤷 apparently I have a higher level of OCD than you have displayed in so many vids 😅…I was and am, highly annoyed that you didn't aligned that valve cover tubing with it's seating 😑

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel Ventura says:

I want to have a cleaning done on my 16,000 mile 2018 Focus. All short trips, 9 miles or less. I'm sure it needs to be done. I wonder how much it costs?

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Anthonythesider says:

I don’t even know why you touched this car

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ian Grice says:

How disappointing 😞 I was looking forward to smoke.

    Some people are just cheap.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars B9Bot 1 says:

Absolutely wish there were more mechanics like you Ray. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars LordStraightBanana says:

A major reason for the carbon build up is likely the same reason that little engine has reached 190k – it’s almost never been over 3500 rpm

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kyle Whybrew says:

You forgot to put some cleaner in the tank.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kent Adams says:

I don't blame the customer – I had a cleaning done a few years ago on an 05 Corolla after a diag – $500 job, did not come close to fixing the issue. Done right a cleaning may work but I am jaded now – next time I will just dump a can of Sea Foam in!

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Oliver F. Rupert says:

Distracted driving is one of the reasons that causes collisions while driving. Hope the best for you. Happy New Year 😀

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Scott Petersen says:

What brand of additives do you use

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars F Huber says:

My experience with cleaned PCV valves is they need replacing within a couple of thousand miles anyway. The carbon buildup accelerates corrosion on the spring and the spring now exposed again soon breaks.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Grendelbc says:

I thought I read somewhere that modern gas has so many new cleaning agents in it that carbon build up was never a problem. That seems to be obviously wrong.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars gene rovinsky says:

use your brain instead of y0ur tool

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dominic says:

Finding the trims would be much easier if you scanned it with standard OBD2 instead of going by the VIN and model. Standard OBD2 will give you STFT, LTFT, MAF and O2 data which would be sufficient to diagnose the issue properly.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Julian Voth says:

Nice find, I have found on these GDI engines the carbon buildup on the valves and injectors to cause lean conditions requiring intake removal for walnut blasting or valve soaking as well causing injector failure, so keep an eye out in the future. Also utilizing global obd readings to find actual fuel trim data is handy when certain manufacturers don't list or renames things to their liking.

Hahaha!!! Money shot!! Keep up the great videos "Click"

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kerry Lewis says:

I'm thinking that the vehicle has not lived a proper life of service. The guy reminds me of my brother-in-law. Fill the tank, drive the car. Buy a new one when it's not worth repairing.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ray Shutsa says:

Thanks for another great video. 😀🇨🇦👍

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lysander Lysandrou says:

    LOL money shot!

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars glennleech21 says:

Great video! Just wanted to let you know if you can’t see fuel trims! Just go into generic obd 2 and you should see in that data

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Victor Song says:

GDI engines have a carbon build-up problem because there is no fuel to wash the intake valves. The cure is the ground walnut shells blasting procedure.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bill hanna says:

Was that 190 K miles wow

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars N Jr says:

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bryan Crandall says:

    Cheap gas. ⛽

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jl Brown says:

I would love to know which product(s) you use (and procedure(s) had the customer chosen to do the carbon clean out.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Edwards says:

1st thing I thought when the code came in was PCV valve, idk why, but yeah, as gunked up as that valve was, it's prolly all gunked up inside too GG Ray on keeping it real.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars New Horizons says:

You know how you always say "Click" ? When you actually buckle up, you should say, "Safety Click!" 😀

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Evan93 says:

Steam cleaning it,will get rid of carbon deposits ez

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Gilbert says:

People are shorting themselves when they don't get the service done that should be. Sure it's working okay, but make it run the way it should. Your investment will last so much longer

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alfred Hughes says:

What fuel intake formula do you recommend? Do you use SeaFoam any. Thanks.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jennifer hansen says:

Ray have you ever heard of using ATF as a fuel system cleaner? I put about a 1/3 cup in my gas tank and filled w 91 octane worked like a charm 02 Tahoe w 5.3ltr

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael McCoy says:

I wouldn't want anything to do with the GDI motor that's a complex engineering which in my case is kind of pointless overtime that's going to be a hefty bill on the pocket

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ProXYoDa 420 says:

I run seafoam in my old f150 about every 3 months great stuff trucks got 330,000 on a 4.6 and still running strong
