Being able to change a starter from the engine compartment is gravy.
Iโve noticed you never check the battery fluid
Using his vast and sophisticated tools (the hammer), Ray started to work on the starter!
Those hose clamps are very rusty. Wonder if this car was in a flood?
Very Impressive. Great skills.
Ray:
You got new electric bat. Cleaners.
You are getting away from your grandfather's time. Yellow gloves 2.
THX.
Klaus. The Canucksy
Sometimes the battery is bad in the key pod remote! That the Motor wonโt start!
How cool is that lil nub brush?!
Just a note. All factory Toyota nuts and bolts will never be 13mm. It is a superstition thing. 13 is unlucky. Never had a 13mm nut or bolt on 4 different Toyotas I have had from 1994 to 2012.
Rainman Ray's 12V battery terminal cleaning technique is truly legendary. Would applying a dollop of gear grease on the starter cog/gear of this 2012 Camry be a good thing or just a bad idea? I am just a back-yard mechanic..but I am the original owner of a 20-year old Japanese built Camry that runs just fine..on the second starter and second alternator..
Great Content.
If you are thinking a heat soak problem, I would have closed the hood to keep more of the heat in the engine bay.
Great video as usual though, Ray!
The moment you described with the customer said I already knew bad starter solenoid. You went through the proper steps to prove that fact which means you're an honest mechanic. If I ever had to take a vehicle anywhere I'm coming all the way down to you. And I'm half a country away.
Where. To get that wire brush socket
Here in MI I've had the key FOB be so cold that it interfered w. Start button signal
All terminals deserve attention from the mighty power brush
FYI, on Toyota push to start ignition you just push the button and release, no need to hold it until it starts.
I had a Pontiac that would do that after driving a long time. I found the starter got so hot that it locked up. Cheap fix one bag of ice thrown on the starter and it would start. I replace the starter eventually.
Thank you rainman ray!! After watching your videos all weekend what do you know I get a 2015 Ford Edge with a slow crank and a buzzing sound coming from under the hood. Thanks to you the first thing I checked was the battery terminals as you point out so often the were loose as hell. Now instead of doing parasitic draw test on the battery first I will do a battery service and tighten down the terminals and what do you know my problem is gone! Love your videos keep making them you are very good at what you do!!
Another brilliant video pal, bread and butter wrenching, ๐๐
What year?
Do you have a power prob?
Hey Ray. Love the vids. Learned a lot I have a quick question…I have a 2010 Grand Caravan. I added a back-up camera that's always on when my lights are on..I wired it that way so I can always see what's going on behind me. As I worked on it I unplugged the factory camera..now it won't work, all pins/ connections are good. Does it need to be "turned on" after being unplugged? It worked fine before this.. thanks brother.
Percussive maintenance…excellent technique. Love this channel.
Liking this video even before you do any work, just cause of the high beam psa! Thanks!!
I think YouTube should award your company with a framed certificate for the most annoying phone ring in the world๐คฃ. Having said that love the doo, Dee, dooโs. You have a great day ๐
Hi Ray, battery terminal cleaning tool. You usually use a hand cleaning tool. Thatโs the red one must be two part tool. Now you have two piece cleaning set . Useing a battery drill great.
Are they available on Amazon as l have never seen these anywhere here in Greece ๐ฌ๐ท or UK.
Rainman, I appreciate your videos, especially since you live in my favorite state!
Also you and scotty kilmer are my 2 favorite YouTube car guys!
My step son is a brilliant person but not a car guy. He bought a โ09 Camry from family and he had the same issue, no crank no start. I chuckled, and explained itโs a hybrid. Great person, just not a car person and didnโt know and has never driven a hybrid.
And click, another Rays repairs video is done. Have a great day!
dunno why some people think they need to see up a junebugs arsehole from 6 miles away when driving at night,, those high beams are deadly,, especially to guys like me in a low car driving amongst jacked up trucks, their low beams are already blinding enough.
Check and recheck. Check
Starter is heat soaked, replace junk parts.
The round Intake tube is not tight so will suck dirt in
I like it when Toyotaโs Fail.
Toyotaโs have a lot of starter problem, I guess Scotty was correct when he said a Starter and Alternator are considered regular maintenance on a Toyota.
Did you see all the wires shooting out of your brush tool off that starter terminal? I hope you had on some safety glasses! ๐ค
You might want to shut the hood to get the most heat….
I dont put anything back together other than the part changed, before testing it.
Ray, can you link all your recommended tools on one page. Not sure how it's done but would be helpful.
Once again Ray great vid๐๐๐
1 year by my count…..Ray just lives in another time zone ๐
cracks me up every time you say "good day to all of you"..Never hear anyone say that anymore…very very cool !!!
The high beam people are the biggest morons. See it 10x more than even 20 years ago.
Another great example of diagnostic excellence, and doing right by your customer. I swear if I lived anywhere near you, you would be my only mechanic.
smart key issue if battery is low or dead if key is in your pocket you press button and down on brake it won't crank . but you can hold smart key by start button then car will start. but this is starter with solenoid failure.
Video is helpful. Just wish you could shorten it
No comment…..lol
