Lol @ hood prop
what a crazy amount of work for what amounts to a dummy light. i panicked the first winter i had my second gen dodge, the oil pressure would be 65 at startup and dropped to 15 after warm. turns out, dodge engineers realized people expect the gauge to move, so they programmed it to move relative to the engine temp.. the numbers were meaningless.
I was a mechanic for many years until My career ended due to life-altering issues. I just wanted to let you know, that your videos bring me joy and comfort! Thank you!!
All your videos are great and entertaining I was looking for the knock sensor video you did not put it in the description
Hey Ray be safe when the storm comes though thanks for the great videos!
I once had a Snap-On dealer who would replace my worn or broken Mac tools, then would send them in for warranty replacement and sell them later as trade ins.
OK most of the time the channel is great. This one doesn't need to pull the intake to deal with the oil pressure sending unit.
for some reason, losing the wobbly makes me giggle.
Stay safe Ray.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Stay safe during the oncoming Hurricane, Ray.
say safe you and your wife and kids.😅
Some of those gages aren't really gages at all, but merely indicators connected to an on/off switch.
renumber the song here i am rock you like a h it gos so well in your state.
Could you have used the scan tool to see the measured oil pressure from the sensor to see if the gauge was reading what it was being told?
When the wobbly fell, all I could say was “gravity”
Do really anyone say “save difference” ?
Normally it is :
Same thing
Or
No difference…
There saying Tampa is in the main eye as of 11 on 9-26.
Please show some of the hurricane. Good luck to your chickens. Maybe you should put air tags on them.
I now find myself making the phone noise as I drive on the highway. Generally after 5-6 hours on the road……
Rock you like a hurricane. Stay safe dude.
"I could do it without doing the thing but i don't want to burn myself." burns himself 12 times doing the thing
Oh gnoes, failed the reinstallation of the air intake. Forgot to remove the rags in the order they were installed into the heads. 🙂 OCD kicking in here. 🙂
Using the scan tool, can you activate the water pump and cooling fans? If so u could do that to cool the engine down after without turning the car on. (I'm guessing the water pump is mechanical though)
The flashlight it possessed by the ghosts of mechanics past…
I'm going have to try that light blinking trick….. Maybe just go for the house main breaker!
My snap on dealer will allow me to trade in my competitors tools for snap on tools credit. Something to ask the dealer about.
After seeing this video, I will keep my older vehicles.
I guess it's these new fangled electronic binacles that cause this problem. My experience with oil pressure sensors goes back at least 50 years. They showed nothing on the gauge when they went bad. Some even had an oil line that went up to the gauge.
So your going to charge the customer more because you dont want to squeeze your hand back by the firewall because your scared to get your hand and arm warm its not that hot IV have replaced 100s of the oil pressure sending unit and never had to remove the intake. Talk about a scammer
And people wonder why my "newest" car is a 1996 Blazer, it wasn`t designed by dipshit bean counters. But I would like to pull the V6 and drop a LS in it. But I`m not that good🤣
the gm dealer would have taken the engine out first 🥴
What have you done to my brain, every time that phone rang I doo doo dooo with it.
Stay safe. Prayers for everyone.
Thats what they say. You gonna ride it out or head for high ground ?
Good luck with the hurricane. I’m on SR64 by LWR Blvd and it looks like it’s going to be messy!
Stay safe! Hope there isn't too much damage done but it looks to be a big one.
My 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 has the exact same issue with the oil pressure gauge pegged at 80 when the engine or the ignition is running.
Just over 100k, what a fresh unit
ithe they didn't make all the parts so dang comext, the cars would be cheaper and run better.
those dang engineers
You know. I just realized why you started a youtube channel. Like me you talk to yourself when working on cars. Unlike me you don't look stupid anymore. Didn't have Youtube in my hay day.
Flashing lights….disco fever😁
I see why modern engines have plastic covers, it's to cover up wires and hoses.
Remember when engines looked cool? Ray, just drink coffee all day!
invest in some magnetic sockets
Alright so by the book you have to take off the intake… Which you dont. Get an OEM Tools oil pressure socket from autozone. Then have a half inch swivel and a short extension. Maybe 3 inch. And thats all. The hardest part is to feel for the sensor. Once you have it disconnected its easy. The socket just falls in. Of course you can test your socket on the new part before finding you may have bought the wrong one. The sensor at autozone is $35…. With a lifetime warranty.. yes "well im special which makes the car special and it needs an original" fine spend the extra dollars at the dealership. No warranty by the way since its an electrical item with a 20% restocking fee.Either way… When doing a diagnostic sometimes it just better to replace a $35 part instead of wasting an hour time extra and etc…. Also its like $250-$350 job cause of the intake. I just be humble for like $200 plus the part and make that in 15 min. If the changing the sensor didnt work then you can say its a circuit issue. But for $20 which is what your shop bought for and charged the customer probably $120 its isnt worth all that headache. Nay sayer out!!
the speedometer guage is starting to fail… it did not go to 120 when u did the guage test….. just recommend new truck… 😎
Ray your last vid you said that diagnostic tool you use was 3000 bucks i nearly fell over and had a wee dram of scotch whisky to get over it lol
Lights flickering takes me back to days of disco. Where's the crystal ball though?
it's caused by sludge in the engine…. customer has failed to properly maintain the vecihile
Please stay safe you and your family Ray!!!
Duh – I have that socket – why don't you?
You actually removed the intake? I’ve replaced dozens of those with the sender socket, extension, and a swivel. Never once had an issue. 10 minute fix. Back when I was a kid working part stores, I’d just do them for people in the lot because I was so fast with them.
You didn't show reinstalling the fuel pump relay, therefore you must not have done it…. I wonder how it started? LMAO
All I wanted was for you to reach up & grab the ever loving leaf!!!
WHAT'S BETTER THAN BURNING YOUR HANDS IN ORDER TO WAKE-UP IN THE MORNING ? HAVING YOUR WIFE WAKE FIRST AND SHE HELPS YOU GET IN THE MOOD WHILE THE KIDS ARE ASLEEP!!
You know Ray, for a guy on his first day on the job, you have the makings of a great mechanic. Keep up the great work
The fuel line struggle is REAL! lol
At my age just waking up is the bonus LOL
So appreciate your videos and your do doo dos! Love it haha 😄 😆 Work at an emmisons testing driving all these cars on Dynamometers 😁😑🙄🤪👏🤣 manual and automatic AWD FWD RWD. So great to relax with your videos after work! Thank you RAY! KEEP IT UP!
Love how Rays says "Then I lost 1/2 an hour" when I am thinking I would have lost the entire morning.
I've been able to do those with a regular socket, its a pain in the ass but I can do it lol.
good luck with Ian, I left Fla. at the end of 2004 after the 4 hit Seminole Co.
Working in the equipment service industry, one of the first things suggested was to remove the watch and ring. I saw someone burn their watch band off when they reached behind an alternator, not a pleasant outcome.
Great content, like the commentary.😎👍
never thought i would watch a video about pegging on this channel
That's a pricey socket!
If you through the nuts and bolt across your shop you'll get more shop time
I put thread tape on the threads of the sending unit, no idea if it's necessary but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
All right, here is a sincere question, since it was showing too much pressure in the oil, at the beginning of the video how come you did not show us how much oil was actually in the engine to make sure that it wasn’t overfilled by a whole bunch? I would’ve liked to seen what the oil dipstick said before you perform doing everything that you did. I would’ve done that just to knock out something that would’ve been just so easy as pulling out a dipstick. I know you’re the mechanic and I love watching your stuff but that is a legitimate question
GM Wiring Harness Removal Process: Wait approximately 100,000 miles, and the wiring harness will remove itself.
I have to apologize, Ray. I was genuinely bracing for a massive fuel dump, and I squealed in delight when you cut to the fuse box to pull the fuel pump relay out.
I really have nothing of actual value to contribute to today's video, so I'll leave you with a story from today.
Today was my first day at my new job as an in-field trainer with a mobile diagnostics company. Basically, I do ride-alongs with the lowest-producing technicians to figure out why they're struggling, and help them improve. I rolled up on a tech on his first job this morning, and discovered that the only tools he owned were a Snap On Verus Pro, an SAE combo wrench set, and a flathead screwdriver. I'm not a drinking man, but I considered it today… LOL
Stay safe in that hurricane, brother!
Wonder why GM decided a special socket was needed?
Owners are so lucky to have you rubbing up against their vehicles 🚗
Busted a gut when he was showing off his wobbly and dropped it. Always here for a laugh thanks ray!!
Batten down the hatches Rain Man! Ian is heading your way. Stay safe!
Take care Ray, I don't want to lose you to a hurricane. I used to live near Mobile AL… got tired of all the hurricane dodging and moved 300 miles north.
oil pressure sending unit is common
wow a Chevy with oil pressure
Take care. 👍
I hear Yelawolf in the background about halfway into the video. nice. one of my favs as of late.
also, an oil pressure sensor at the back of the engine sounds like a bad spot to me. at least on my old ford it was right by the oil filter. :/
also also, with a hurricane approaching, it makes me wonder if that truck will survive and render all the work for nothing. welp, hope you can stay dry down there. hurricanes don't look fun from the videos I see. it's like a constant gust of wind and rain. 🙁
I'm here for the brake cleaner shots 😭 what the hell???? Seriously , take care of yourself and the family Ian looks bad.
I've been watching that storm. Please stay safe. Good mechanics are hard to come by. Keep your fam safe to but please safely film it if it does come your way lol. Seriously though, stay safe my friend.
I think this man is an honest mechanic
He should tell us what the repair cost
Good video Ray !
Gm gives you 4/10’s to replace that no way to do that if you pull the intake
Great video Ray. Hope you and your family stay safe with the hurricane coming. Be safe.
Pro-tip, get smaller hands. About 1/2 the time I can unplug them and once it's unplugged the sensor can be removed without pulling the intake off. The other half of the time the intake has to come off because the clip is rotated the wrong way. 100% of the time they need intake gaskets anyway.
Why do they use a socket for the oil pressure sender that's more unique than many security lug nuts? Designed in Germany, made in Thailand?
can't leave out the doo de dooo
I had that same symptom on my 83 mustang years ago. Turns out that the oil pressure sending unit got sheared off from a frayed serpentine belt. New belt and sensor, back to normal.
Close to half a million subscribers!
Ray there is as a hurricane that hit Canada’s east coast Nova Scotia. Very odd for us
Be careful with parts you buy I just popped 2 new oil pressure sensors in less than a year
My 05 gt mustang does have meiling hi vol hi pressure oil pump when warm up it set on 75 it was only at 18 before i did complete timing parts it ben running fine last 2 years
That socket moment was funny not intended yet funny! Well, Ray hope you and your family will be safe in God's hands as this storm goes through It sounds very serious!
