Done.
pretty common
Never had one fail? Do you even grease bro?
Get you a damn paper clip and poke around for a little bit. It'll go back to working.
Nice jeep! Yes common, try switching up to a dark green oil based multi purpose grease may just be my imagination but seems to not force out the check ball in the fitting as much
Happens a lot on farm equipment
Chrysler product, not a surprise
It did not fail, it has the rod pushed against it , move that rod while pumping the grease and it will work!!
you've never seen the ball come out of a grease nipple?!?
Yep work on diesels and I bet I’ve had some just never seen them.
Seen it more often with Chinese fittings.
Years ago a 2 yo Rwd Monte Carlo had a seriously bad lower ball joint with only 22,000 miles. Greased it before replacement and that exact thing happened.
Ya I constantly see this on ag and construction equipment.
in my 25 years I've never seen one fail like that
ZERK FITTINGS ….AHHH YES…MY 55's (2) 2Dr Wagons & 57 2 Dr wagon all had zerks…even the generators had zerks…good old daze…
Its just a ball and spring. They fail all the time. Most modern vehicles live their entire life without anything being greased, so I suppose with basic commuter cars its not that common.
Very common when no one greased the vehicle in years.
You have never seen a grease fitting fail ? Wtf.
Just Empty Every Pocket
Sometimes you can poke the ball around if it's still there, I've only seen em get stuck closed, I kinda suspect the valve is gone.
About a 30 cent fix though
Grit in the check valve of that said nipple the ball bearing is unable to seat as the shaft spins it deposits any gritty schmoo ingress back into the grease nipple some brake clean, compressed air and some safety squints is the cockford ollie
Never seen a zert fail, oh bless your heart.
Come on get a job it happens all the time
Yep have had them fail. In the US and Aus
Seen it many times but usually on heavy equipment but occasionally on car's and vans
Back in my millwright days, grease fittings flew out of my supply shed. Almost couldn't keep up with them.
Many times.
Those always fail in my line of work ! Just have to replace it
Vehicles not really, heavy equipment yes
I fix rental equipment happens all the time either they get stuck and won't take Grease or it all just comes out after they take it. Keep up the good work Ray love your channel
That’s the northern life for ya
Amused. As a mechanic in literally futtbuck nowhere, AK, nearly every vehicle I worked on had at least two grease fittings like this one.
I see grease zerk fails often. There's a reason they're usually sold in multi packs.
I've had where they would take grease and shoot across the shop
As a diesel technician I see that all the time, we have a box of replacements in the shop for when they fail to take grease
You need a new one to replace it
I have at least 3 grease fittings fail yearly on my tractors. Not uncommon in the slightest
one nice jeep
Oh yeah, I've seen them fail like that all the time. there is debris that is lodged in the fitting that keeps the check ball from closing completely.
Yeah, industrial mechanic, lots of bearings. Happens a lot..
grease fitting is missing the retaining ball….thats why its back shoots …:D
It’s a Jeep thing
There is a tool that you fill with penetrating oil that you attach to the fitting, you then hammer down a plunger and it shoots the oil into the fitting to unstick it, after that you flush out the penetrating fluid with new grease.
Youve never seen a zerk fitting fail? 😆
Guy must not work on much older equipment. Seems like half the old tractors and equipment that I work on the check ball will get stuck like this
It's a Heep thing, you wouldn't understand.
As a proctologist I see it a helluva lot.
stuck internal spring seen so many
It's funny how that works. Whoever thought you could wear out a grease gun…… well I have several times..
Zerk fittings take a s*** all the time.
You got to replace them you got to dig out the old grease with a pick you have to use a tool to free up these fittings and you got to carry a whole bunch of these fittings too. it happens
Oil rig dally , Operator 3 -6 times a year just a stone or clay say good by in the 80s they quit adding zerk fittings to drive shafts and ball joints went to sealed . Feel lucky when you can add Grease
Get a grease cert rejuvenator
That's a new one for me
Oh the humanity!!! 😂
This may be off the wall but does anyone know of a good brand for the grease guns? I would buy vintage but they always seem worn out and the newer ones at work will rip the fittings out before releasing the fitting
It's actually a quite common failure.
I have worked in multi skill maintenance for many years and these things fail more often than you think. The spring behind the ball breaks or the ball gets debris jammed in it. Just a new zirc fitting and on to the next job.
It's a Jeep Just Empty Every Pocket
Didn’t grow up on a farm did you Ray? Lol
Lmfao 😂
They fail all the time, just replace the zerk fitting.
It's a bad Zerk
Why do you think they sell replacement fittings?
I see this all the time on the heavy jets I work on. Put grease into one fitting and gear Conde out of the next fitting.
Proper lubrication techniques on the shaft are an often misunderstood concept by the misses errrra masses
That's real common in the rust belt. I'm surprised that's a first for someone who's as accomplished as you are. I still have firsts tho.
OMG!!!…This obviously is a historically noteworthy industry failure event…with all your years of hands on grease gunning and lubricating experience, the magnitude of scale in numbers, and diversity of industry applications…this must make you question your core beliefs where they have never been questioned before…catastrophic zerk failure…I would never have believed it if you hadn't shown it…get the word out…Godspeed to you…
When they are not cleaned before pumped full, sometimes the ball gets held back by dirt and debris. Hyster mechanic, seen it a bunch.
I see all the time and implements with lot of fittings typically from zerk fitting not being cleaned before greaseing and dirt getting stuck in detent ball.
Heh heh
Your ball is stuck
Farm equipment seams to eat those.
i am amazed you even found that grease zerk fitting in the first place when i would take my dodge Dakota in for a oil change i would make the service writer write every aftermarket grease zerk on the ticket because if parts my mechanic already replaced failed do to lack of grease he would yell at me lol.
You know JEEP does stand for Just Empty Every Pocket right?
It’s a Jeep thing!
Murphy's first law. anything that can go wrong will go wrong
Chinese "quality"? 😲
Broken spring?
Wow!! That’s a first for me.
As a repairman in the mining industry, I have seen that a lot.
Not Good! 😱
spray it with pb blaster torch it and lightly tap it with a hammer, usually works seen guys do it with wax to.
Either way you could just replace it.
Tiny piece of dirt because someone did not clean the fitting first.
When everything is broken you know it is a

It's man made and on a jeep of decay
I fix tractors and see this a lot.
Can you say "Death Wobble"?
The little ball inside the tip is gone…
This is extremely common in construction equipment. Always keep a box of zerks on hand. Not to be confused with the box for the jerk aka operators cab.
Seen it a few times. Push grease in and when you pull off it comes right out again
I have seen that on HVAC motor bearing grease ports.
Ball valve is finals big deal
funny, title is the story of my life
Naw, I've seen that. You gotta make sure the little bastards are CLEEN before you service them, I'd bet the valve pellet flew out centripetal
Simple fix. Replace the zerk fitting. You must never have worked on heavy equipment where the fitting gets plugged with dirt.
Time to change that
Sen 100 of them elaking back like that.
I see this all the time, on equipment you’re lucky if a fitting last a year on stuff, it’s common place to keep boxes of everything grease fitting known demand on stock.
Zerk fittings fail a lot.
(Operating engineer, and diesel wrench)
Everyday I learn a little bit about how to fix a automobile thank you my friend God bless you and your family keep up the good work don't forget the good don't see who you do it to thank you my friend
Just junk trash on wheels
looks like it's time for a new fitting.
Holy dangerous, Batman!
