”Intro Music by Karl Casey @ White Bat Audio”
Thanks to Jesse for making the intro and graphic for us to enjoy!!!

All Right Project Jeep 2.0 is going to make some progress look at here. We took down some of the fence and we're going to drag this thing from its grave. SLP parking space over here to a new Grave SL parking space and then I'll at least be able to work on it when we get around to it. I'm going to need a tow strap and my Silverado is not here so I have to use something else.

All my chains and straps are in the back of the Silverado but I'm not driving it cuz it's got a fuel system problem that I need to fix so we're going to tote with the Teo see here open. it's not the right part I tried to cut the thickest part. Come here. Seriously, it's not okay there.

That was easy see if that's going to work. This is a whole lot of strap for what I'm doing. but I think it'll work all right in the back of the table here. I need to get the uh little tow hitch cover thing removed.

There we go because I need something to connect this too stick that in there pin gravity I actually had uh had this hitch come out once with a little like 6ot uh trailer. It was like a a Tra Supply trailer. itty bitty little guy and it was bouncing around it. It happened in my yard.

It did not happen like uh out in the wild or whatever but uh I pulled out of my my yard with the trailer and it was vibrating around so much that it caused the PIN to come loose like this pin. This pin came out of this pin that's really not right I don't like that and this thing Lo got lost and fell out and as I left the driveway, it pulled the receiver out of the hitch and uh and my trailer fell off. Now that was itty bitty little trailer. The chains held on to it but it let me know it let me know it was loose I could feel it back here.

So anyway, let's grab uh, let's go grab that jeep and drag it onto this side of the fence starting the engine. So I'm not tearing this Jeep down today, but getting it on this side of the fence is I guess going to be step one. it'll be a little bit closer. Uh what? I need to do ultimately with this thing is get it into the building and we're going to start stripping it down and putting everything that's reusable in boxes and the things that are not going to be reusable.

They're going to go in that scrap metal trailer right there and then uh I'll figure out what I need for parts and we'll build and collect a parts list and maybe one day I will uh be able to do some off-road four-wheel drive action in this 86 Jeep Okay, let's go get her hooked up now. I am going to use the ball on this trailer hitch to connect the uh tow strap. No, it is not a good idea to use the ball on a trailer hit to connect a tow strap if you're one of those people that are trying to snatch Vehicles out of the mud. uh, doing a static pull like this, It's fine.

I'm not going to break it off, but like let's say, this thing is buried up to its door handles in mud and I get a running start with Tahoe and yank on the line. That's the kind of stuff that breaks these things off. and then when they break off, they go flying through the driver's window of the other vehicle and they impact the face of the other occupant. So yeah, you're not supposed to tow with the uh, the ball on your tow hitch.
I'm going to do it anyway. but I know the difference in doing it what the way? I'm doing it and uh, doing it the wrong way. All right here we go. Okay I want to try to turn the steering wheel a little bit left cuz it's trying to drive over there.

We got it dug out of the hole. but I want to steer it a little straighter here and uh, let keys are in it. Yeah, steer it kind of straightish if I can. that way it'll kind of Park straight.

Oh, joints are creaking little rough all right. I think we got it. It's in the fence. good.

Plenty of space here. I think that's my fuel tank. yeah I think that's a Jeep fuel tank. Maybe it is.

Maybe it isn't I'll take it with me anyway. it was touching the Jeep when I bought the Jeep So this is my fuel tank. Okay, let's take a better look at what we got going on over here. I haven't had much time really to uh to Tinker a look at this thing like I said I Kind of bought it on a on a whim because I see the potential here I actually did make a kind of a joke SL intro video on this Jeep um it's kind of a joke on my wife unit.

oh that was it's got good uh Good Shocks back here and and some folks were like you're making fun of your wife and she didn't appreciate that but she's a good sport. Anyway, it appears this is a CJ7 it is a Jeep these are the components I found inside. Got some Jeep hub caps I bet these are valuable. those are metallic.

okay keeping those. Got a milk crate back seat that's going to get thrown away. They make new back seats, some padding. Someone had a fire extinguisher in here once.

That's cool. Got some chromium on the dash or what's left of the dash? Yeah, so how we do this here I guess I'm just kind of seeing what we have to work with and maybe figure out what it needs and what it doesn't need. Needs everything. I I Think my plan is going to be to uh, put some 1 ton axles on this Frame and I will go and get a uh like a Chevy Silverado for wheel drive or something and take the engine transfer case and transmission and wiring harness out of that.

Come here and we'll use that power plant. So we get the V8 swap power plant and the one tons and that should make this thing uh, operable should one day. but it it definitely needs stripped down to almost nothing. It needs a full-on restoration that's not any good.

Everything's all seized up and Frozen rusted together. Okay, door panels are junk. Or the door cards rather? yeah, those are those are junk. Doors are rotted out.

Okay, it's not good. Very common on the Jeeps the windshield rots out. Uh I believe this whole windshield and frame is replaceable. Have to get a new one of those.
Okay, so it appears that that is not the fuel tank for this. Jeep because this Jeep has a fuel tank right here I Wonder if the tubs rusted out? You see someone tried to do some body work? Uh Reclamation action on it at one point and the corrosion has seemed to have won. Okay, that's a bolt welded to the frame. Tell me this frame's good.

At least if I've got a good frame then we can. I Can work with this thing as long as the frame's good. Yeah, look at that. Some stabilizer looking stuff.

Never seen that before. Straight bar on half the leaf spring. See that? Okay, I bet this thing has been a little bit abused. Oh yeah.

bunch of slop in that rear end. that's junk. seals, leaking. shocks are probably good though.

Oh yeah, yeah, so looks like the tub is gone. Probably get one that's fiberglass. It does have an engine in it. Okay, no bell housing.

cranks rusted out. pretty bad. That's probably not any good. What else is going on down here? See, we've got the right hand side differential in the front axle.

Little tubes too. Yeah, all this stuff is going to have to go away. Everything's going away in this. Jeep We're going to strip it down to a frame and probably do a frame off.

That's what. That's what it needs. Frame off restoration. Pull everything down.

Ooh, that's good. Look at that. Look at those spacers right there. See that they got a bunch of nuts stacked together as a spacer for this.

Nerf Bar That's uh. that's high quality. That's a superior high quality. Wow.

Tire's got a hole in it from sitting I wonder how long this thing's been parked? Missing a lug nut? Oh, look at that. look at here. There's a spindle nut on the axle to hold the hubs on. Look at that.

Wow. Okay, will it run again? I bet it will. I bet we can make this run again. It's going to take some time.

some uh, some Financial contribution and and a whole lot of Parts But I believe that this piece of Jeep right here could be made into something functional. Um, yeah, the Hood's falling off though. Look at that. The hinges are not even hinging H wonder how the fluids are doing? There are none.

Got any antifreeze NOP Just a bunch of corrosion down there. Okay, Radiator's junk. Straight six engine is junk. brake booster is junk junk.

steering shaft is junk. the Hood's junk. The body's junk. The wiring is junk.

Fuel tanks probably full of nasty and varnish. Chrome looks good. There we go. H Should I throw it away? or should I build it? What do you guys think? Frame off.

I'm going to do a frame off. That's what it needs. That's the only way it will live again. and this Frame is actually okay.

I think I See no, no ruining of the frame except for where somebody uh decided to weld things to it. But I can chop that off, Smooth this off, chop that off right there, smooth it out. We'll paint the frame, make it nice and shiny, and then bolt new parts onto it. That's what it needs.
Body's got to go I Don't know if the fiberglass top is going to be savable I hope it is. H Little bit of a air Le going on here. That's fine. Hinges are rusted, stuck.

That's Chrome That's pretty cool. Needs a dash. Dash is no, no bu0 okay. cool.

The air conditioner is here. Look, it still has the AC There we go. You know what I'm talking about right? Just got to hook the AC back on, hook the AC up and I think we're good here. Oh man, Triangle windows are the best Windows I Miss Triangle Windows Oh, they work great too.

They really do what's in the glove box. I That's nice Chrome Boat handle. Someone put a handle for a boat on this. That's what that is.

Hey, there's a there's a key in the glove box. Know what? this is for? Power Disconnect Maybe feels like a very substantial switch. You shut the glove box and rust falls out. That's that's great.

H How many miles on the Odometer 171,172 trailer behind? MX Wow. the whole body flexed. Watch this I wonder. All right, it's just not bolted on.

I Think this fiberglass top is savable? Yeah, it's not broken or cracked. It'll need new. Uh new trimmer on the Windows Yeah I probably save. The top.

looks pretty good on the inside. Okay, yeah, what do you guys think? can I make this a a running driving operating Jeep again or or is this a waste of time and effort and money? And AO was right. let me know comment section down below Anyway guys I have nothing more to offer on this particular little uh side quest project today I am done. No more on the video except to thank you for watching this video.

As always, hope you enjoy this video. Have yourselves a fantastic day! See you guys later in a video The Project Jeep 2.0 in a day in a transmission.

Don't waste your time Ray. Strip down to chassis. Sell the chassis and the top and scrap the rest. Starting to build a car with just a chassis and a tatty roof top is as we say ing Britain, Nuts!

ray I think you should have passed on this one. not worth the effort needed. You should have started out with a better" jeep unit" . sorry man, but if anyone can repair it you are at the top of the list, haha

When was just out of high-school had a CJ-7 late seventies. The frame was set up where it could hold a sb Ford engine with a change in mounts, 289 or 302 if I remember correctly . I had it fixed up pretty well and had a blast running around with it during warm weather. But being a young kid with a good income and still living with my folks my eye soon found something bigger and better. Now I wished I still had it. These new Jeeps just don't take what the old ones did. They're building them for family cars now. You can't just fix a fender or panel puncture with a piece of sheet tin and pop rivets. And use a couple of 4 inch steam pipe for a bumper.

Save it and make it a super sleeper jeep or a granny gear or bulldog gear jeep with a super sleeper mode when its not in granny gear

The bars coming u[ from the rear axle might be home-made antiwrap bars, since it has been converted to a spring-over-axle configuration. Unique in that the rear is spring-over, the front is spring-under(?)

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @redneckbryon says:

It could be cool, with a GM Heart.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @akronstreetbum says:

The awesome thing about the old cjs is all you need is a solid frame. everything else is replacable. In fact, AMC literally used whatever they could get to build them. I had an 85 CJ7 that had a Chevy straight 6 motor, Ford three speed automatic transmission and transfer case, Dodge 4wd axles and Wagner lockout hubs from the factory.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @basbass429 says:

That Wrangler… The looks suggest every single part of body-work, frame/suspension belong on the scrap metal trailer. Might be beyond rebuilding. What is the required time estimate to make this piece of junk a car/jeep again? 1000+ hours? 2000+? And enough money to buy new used ones in good condition?

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @kingbertie says:

I would keep it right if you read on the comet below me. You'll see that I have more of a passion for the older stuff. I've got a 1960s, Jeep Willie's Kaiser. J 300 I'm gonna be fixing mine up. I wouldn't mind coming out to Florida. Once you got your jeep fixed and going out and doing jeep things

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @TheJuggalo1491 says:

I do not think the frame is that great. But get it either Dipped or blasted and Powder coat it. If you doing frame off. Do it 100%. Those jeps with a V-8 engine there will be no stopping you.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars @Artiken1 says:

Ray. The wife is ALWAYS right…even when she is wrong. I would remove the good parts and sell them. Not because I need the money, but because I would want to help out a fellow Jeep lover. There is more than 75% gone on that unit. The end results would not be worth the effort, time, money it will take to make it stock. But if it is a Hobby. Go for it. Will be worth every dirty look you get from Lauren. One thing that will help. For every dollar you spend on the Jeep, put another dollar in a (pile/box/bank account) and give it to Lauren when you finish(sell) the Jeep. Call it the "Thank you for letting me have a hobby fund." I am not sure if you should tell her about the fund. If you do. When you say, "honey. I just spent $500 on *&$*^$% for the Jeep." She will know the fund also went up by $500.

lol. I'm 61 and single(divorced). lol. I didn't know about the hobby-mad money fund idea at the time. I got a Chraftsman radial arm saw for my wife. Best trade I ever made. ($160.00). I still have the saw. 🙂
