You guys like the Kia that had the camera short out, left the people walking. Let's look at this one. Buick Chevrolet Made in America Actually, it's not. it's made in China uh side object detection sensors.
Yeah, they go bad in these Chevys all the time. Uh, it set you back about $400 or $500 by the time you get it program it. put it together. All that so we don't have to.
you know, rely on this oldfashioned device. The mirror well have a look at. This isn't that wild. I Popped the uh side object detection sensor par.
Now this one went bad. uh, as they always do. Uh, because it gets corrosion on it. You can see corrosion on that corner.
uh, smells like burned up stuff. But look at that. isn't that wild. So this baby lives.
you know, in the bumper cover here. But look at all the electronics on that. All that so we don't have to rely on that stupid old mirror. jump.
Penny pinching accountants that push engineers into doing stuff like this. How much would a o ring cost to seal the module? Crazy.
Send them to rossman he'll get em fixed.
Whole other side is gold plated
can't believe they don't epoxy dip those boards.
Man, I became a mechanic in the wrong era. 20 years earlier would have been easy.
How dare you!!! Make Greta sad again!
Jeeeez Tell us how you really feel Eric 😂
Thoes are probably easily fixable.
"Anything you can do, I can do worse."
-Scheby
I spent $5 on blindspot mirrors does the same thing.
I'm more worried that some of these devices COULD be programmed to fail in time.
So smart they're stupid🙄
My brand new Jeep just slammed the brakes on while I was going 60 mph. Luckily there was nobody near me..what a stupid idea and a POS!
Who needs a gym membership when you can just repair modern cars? That's a workout! 😂
oh the joy i would feel if i could broadcast this as a commercial on cable television
How many town and country’s you find those bad on? I don’t see them anymore since moving from Michigan to Knoxville. Used to see them swell up with corrosion.
Watching this video knowing that my Buick also needs these same sensors to be replaced too. 😂😂
They do that on purpose. A single dip in non-conformal coating would double the life or more, cars should have to have the same standards as marine when it comes to circuit boards
Just like cell phones…cars are making us lazier!
Unbelievable!!
The back site is even more fascinating, there is a world of math behind those simple copper rectangles.
Looks like a pretty simple board, probably can be fixed by replacing a few capacitors and some fly wires
my friend is an Electronics technician he could fix that.
Watching you stomp that circuit board was oddly satisfying.
gotta love the old cars
Anyway to bypass it without the lights?
made to fail at predefined time.
It's not just corrosion that can cause these problems there is a phenomenon called the tin whisker Tim is a metal with a crystal structure due to temperature and humidity changes long very fine hair-like structures can grow. This growth of a microscopic piece of tin can short to a component or a trace on the board causing it to fail.
Planned Obsolescence
My 1986 Lean Burn is electronic enough.
Just replaced one the other day that had water get in and short the communication line
Buick Chevrolet China 😂😂😂
If you spray that board down with conformal coating should permanently solve that issue.
All we know is Eric is absolutely the man. Always awsome video's trying to help the people the best he can Always. What has happened over the years beautiful engineering NOT
Amazing how much technology has improved but still can't fix stupid!!@
Love the ending 😂
Had thar issue on my buick, I used foil tape and a new BSMS sensor off ebay to fix it and it worked!
I wonder how long it would take @Louis Rossman to fix that board?
More crud we don't need. My 1998 Saturn SL is still plugging away.
That's a 70Ghz radar. Very advanced microwave electronics design skill that not many people possess.
Ridiculous
Why bother even fixing it you don’t need it. They invented all this dumb shit these electronics so they can boost the price of the car and make more profit. Just leave it broken and use your mirror.
That useless crap is just for people who should stick to riding a childs tricycle
Gee wiz Batman… God forbid someone put a layer of silicone treatment – or even polyurethane on that thing.
That's soooooo wrong.
Thats why I buy Toyota
My Ford bronco was made in America straight out of Detroit Michigan
Thats it! Im keeping my 1995 truck forever
Looks like it's for the mothership.
GM is only Getting Worse at Everything !
Garbage
And everyone wonders why the cost of cars as well as insurance continues to go up every month.
Just position your side mirrors properly and you'll never, ever have a blind spot or need to turn your head all the way over your shoulder.
LMAO, you just burned $200 with your boot.
Be smart and bring it to an electronics repair shop (or local geek), repair for $100, and sell for $300.
He can replace a resistor, clean up other corrosion, and it'll be good as new. Might even just cost you $50.
Our disposable society. No one fixes things anymore because they think it is so complicated.
Btw, when you put a new (or refurbed) one back in the housing, seal with caulk, and place a dessicant inside.
No doubt the corrosion is from water condensing on the board.
Hmmm so crazy that there was/is a "chip" shortage…
Makes my daily driver, '72 caddy, more valuble everyday.😂😂😂
Yes, we like your videos
Gimmicky nonsense. No thank you
GM- Garbage Manufacturing
And that’s why Toyota is king. Yeah, they break, but after how long? GM junk 🤷♂️
Hey that thumbs looking good ole son!
Why people buy and support this junk is beyond me.
There’s more electronics in that sensor than there was on the first spaceship that went to the moon
Damn that's way too many chips. Need to wait until that technology can be cost cut before putting that on cars.
Im just tapping into that recently bought a scanner ADAS coding/programming and calibration capable. I’m calculating I’ll make the investment back with two cars 😅
Most drivers don't know how to set a side view mirror anyway. The way I know this is I can see the driver's face in the side mirror when I'm directly behind them in traffic. Most drivers think the side mirror is supposed to be looking straight back, like a redundant view of what the center mirror sees. It is not. It is supposed to be looking at the adjacent lane even with the rear of the car, i.e. the blind spot. If the side mirror is aimed correctly then I would not be able to see the driver's face from directly behind. If aimed correctly I would see the driver's face only when I'm sitting in their blind spot. The side mirror should only be looking straight back when towing if the trailer is blocking what the center mirror sees.
Kia owners should be walking!😂😂
It’s a shame it isn’t an easy task to map all the unnecessary crap out of the computer when it goes bad
They are not made in china…
I’m noticing that in the mechanical industry knowledge is just something that’s going out the drain in there just nothing but electronic parts changers now I really should get back into it😂
How much would you make off swapping out the mirror vs. swapping out the module?
Mirrors only work if you are looking at them, sensors will help people like you with anger management issues that are busy complaining about whatever it is bugging them that day that are not paying attention.
The human cell is many times more sophisticated than all that computer stuff……so rely on your mirrors more.
Trust me…..get off your phone and drive safe…..not rely on technology to ruin your day.😂
It's useful when your vision is impacted by weather. I can also see it being useful for elders that have harder time turning to check their blind spots or some pillars just being a pain to see around.
GM could've spent a few cents to give PCB a conformal coating
They actually made backup cameras mandatory in all new vehicles because so many small children were getting run over by people backing out of their driveways and not seeing them. I believe it was in 2019 when it took affect. But the NTSB actually passed a law stating all vehicle manufacturers have to install as standard equipment on all their vehicles. So all new vehicles now have 1.
The Buick envision is the model that’s made in china and imported. Other Chevrolet and Buick modes for the NA market are made in NA. Like how the NA market Honda civic sedan is made in Indiana and its coupe is made in Ontario
Send it to Louis Rosman and he will fix a batch probably for $100
Oh the good old day's😢
All that because they were too cheap to coat the board. Sounds about right
Mirrors and turnsignals. 2 useless items on cars these days. I mean, used less.
Buy a base model
I just use my force field. Some claim it’s a turn signal.
Why I will not buy GM any more.
And they wonder how the Russians get the american tech they use to build the rockets that kill UKRAINIAN WOMEN & CHILDREN.
why anyone would be a cheap american car these days
Don’t put them back in. Save yourself money
GM is total junk. Stuffing that crap in bumpers.
Did China install emp protection when they come calling.MAGA
Imagine the sealed electronics from weather
I find it ironic that a Korean car is built in America and the American car is built in China
All cars are crap
Chevys are nothing but junk
Sinful.
What ever happened to using your mirrors or turning your neck and looking over your shoulder me I'm old school and don't rely on just a camera
$4-500 for a literal $20 part. Thanks overpriced car market for gouging.
You should see the inside of the LED lights! Bulbs were too cheap an option for the end user
The EO Comedy Show……
No love lost for 'modern marvels' for lazy incompetent drivers.
If only they applied some kind of protective coating, nope! Go buy a new one fella.
About $11 worth of materials in that CCA
Glad GM saved 2 cents by not masking the sensor in epoxy so it doesn’t corrode. You know simple things a cheap flash light circuit board does but not a $400 sensor
LMAO
