Yes, the spark plugs are worn out, but looking at the color of them – the engine runs well.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Bragg says:

Why bother showing people laughing in your videos when you say things like "paycheck collection snapon truck" LOL! LOL!! LOL!!

    Ahem… if you say so…
    normal seatbelt : minor concussion
twisted seatbelt : broken rib maybe or clavicle?
    no seatbelt : dead

You choose, if a car tbones you and send you rolling over, twisted or not the seatbelt will prevent you from being ejected

Also… check out my Merchandises… that's a bit bland! "goodies"! sounds better

This is for other DIY wanna-be mechanics like me, not Ray (he's the pro and can do what he wants), blast off the loose dirt and grit BEFORE you remove the plug terminal (including the pile of leaves between the wiper and windshield, you really don't want any of that crap getting in the combustion chamber); do not pull on the terminal wires, pull the plastic plug instead, it's best to hand tighten the plugs rather than using a power tool (very easy to cross-thread these if you're not careful).

To answer your trivia question (which BTW, parts of movie we’re filmed in Cincinnati), your name gives it away Mr. Rainman. Nice movie trivia thrown in the video, double doodle doos for you.

Don't you mean the 'Strap-On' truck? (someone had to say it)

I'm guessing the joke about 82 is Larry Wright.
I guess he only ran 1 race at Talladega in 1982.

Didn't you know? An illuminated TPMS warning light is a standard feature on all late model vehicles regardless of manufacturer…

I noticed your not gaping spark plugs, they do not come pregaped because they fit many applications per spark plug repazenative.

I'm curious why you don't check the sparkplug gap of the new ones. It would take little time and would appease my OCD. Do new plugs ever come with incorrect gaps from the factory?

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jared Janhsen says:

You do have to love how clean that motor has stayed over 160,000 miles. Plugs certainly last longer than they do in a turbocharged motor. That GearWrench Torque wrench is pretty cool too. Mine just do actual clicks. You're definitely living up to your channel name with the reference.

Props for trimming the clamp ends and the corners. Always love when people play attention to those small details for when someone else has to go in there for future work 😀

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars khrwjt says:

Let me say it a different way as an electrical engineer. Dielectric grease does all the things that grease does.(lubrication, repels water, etc.) Plus since it does not conduct electricity it assures it does not offer an unintended path for current. Grease on contacts makes them slid together but the contacts easily pushes the grease out of the way to make the electrical connection. So the grease only makes them slide easier. Grease can be a problem if the contacts normally generate lot's of heat because the grease can catch fire. The dielectric label gives you confidence you aren't going to short out your contacts.
OTOH, Non-dielectric grease is bad around electrical contacts because it offers a path to short out the current. Grease that is sometimes used in brakes is not dielectric because it has bits of copper in it. I think the copper has something to do with reducing brake squeal. I'm not sure how. But if you get that stuff near electrical parts you will have a bad time.
And finally if you drop dielectric grease on the floor that would be dielectric gravity. I didn't learn that in engineering school. I learned that from Rainman Ray.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars OK Boomer says:

I keep hearing that you're not supposed to move the butterfly with your fingers on an electronic throttle body because it will mess up the idle position and the computer will have to be reprogrammed, but I've seen you do it a few times. Is there any truth to this?

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars imark7777777 says:

Yes and if you happen to pull over to fix your seatbelt you might get stopped for not stopping and being stopped at the stop sign that you were stopped at but off the road. Argue with a cop a bit and then get a citation for not having your seatbelt on.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Smythe says:

Wow bro your my hero that Torque wrench rules rules I tells ya
I just got a cheap one a few months back but I don't use it a whole lot

I just worked on a 2015 Tacoma. We did a ton of crap to it. Valve cover gasket, spark plugs, headlight connectors, (they were melted) windshield washer tank, new catalytic converter. Someone drove it into the ground with 299k miles already.

Also, the low idle condition (500 RPM) was an intermittent failure of the TPS even though it wasn’t throwing a code. Unfortunately it’s a sealed system to the ETC, so a new part is $750 effing doll hairs to and you have to replace the entire throttle body. Fuuuuuu—
