Man, I'm going home with my tail tucked between my legs today. This is this is nonsense I've seriously suffered the 2022 effect I took an administrative day today. uh, it's Sunday so I didn't plan on working but I ended up working anyway. um I uh I Went around town and I visited a few retailers like the Part stores and some other places where I can get supplies and um, you know, uh, parts and things like that and every single place that I went to had no idea how to set up a commercial purchase account like the people there were just going. I'd never heard of that before and this happened like three times. and uh, one Part store said that they do have commercial accounts but nobody that worked there knew how to set it up or knew where to tell me to go, whether it was online or with paper. They they just didn't know what they were doing and it was so frustrating because it wasn't just one place, it was like three places. I I Feel Victim to the the 2022 effect regarding our our involvement with the labor force and uh, and I just feel kind of defeated like it was. It's definitely not an update. It's kind of a down day because I I got almost nothing done and and I tried really hard to accomplish a few things and I found this to be quite frustrating. The problem was I think is that it's Sunday and there were no managers on staff at any of these stores, but you know you'd think that the assistant manager you know the person with keys and an alarm code and computer access would at least be able to to kind of tell me what to do. but I I just came up dead end after dead end after dead end and I hate to complain about it since we're on this uh, this train right now. but they were also kind of like really rude but like I I almost inconvenienced them by requiring someone to think outside of your American model does it have AC and what's the tire size? You know, the typical part store questions I I brought them outside of that realm of their their normal menu item behave behavior and it was like I fried their brains a little bit and and they rejected me as a customer and well, that's how it felt anyway. And what's frustrating with that is in my estimation, if we're going to set up a commercial purchase account, that's the people that you should really be paying attention to because it stands to reason that they're going to purchase a large quantity of material from your establishment, thus increasing your potential profits. I even tried to buy an AC recovery machine for those of you that don't know like a name brand like a Robinair recovery machine just for uh R134a give you that those things they retail for like forty nine hundred dollars. Okay, so not only could I not set up an account I couldn't get somebody to sell me a five thousand dollar piece of machinery and I'm aware I can buy one used, but I was shopping the new ones just to see if I could maybe strike a deal with one of the parts houses. You know if you sell me this machine, I'll buy this machine and I'll buy that machine if I spend fifteen thousand dollars in machines. maybe I can get a break something like that. And again, it seemed to have just been an inconvenience. Uh, for the the employees that were trying to process me through their facility real quick after edit: Uh, interjection and I'm not kidding. Uh, when I asked this guy about buying a 15 or I'm sorry, a 5 000 recovery machine, he was. He was very interested in moving me aside. So it's bringing up the 25 in oil that the guy behind me was trying to buy. it was it was more focused on just processing people through the line instead of you know, uh, making the sale. That probably would have doubled the intake of this particular I don't know if this is a rant or what it is, but but that's just kind of an update on what I'm doing today. We'll call it a vlog. That's what I'm doing I'm Vlogging today. Yeah, but yeah it was. It was very frustrating for me and like I said, I'm going home. Uh, it's five o'clock now I feel I feel defeated I got nothing done I did buy some oil drain or like some oil dry stuff. you know, the kitty litter but up the road I did get some kitty litter today and uh, a couple little miscellaneous items but yeah it was. This was ultimately a bust so I'm just gonna have to try again on Monday when there's a manager around because it seems that nobody knows what they're doing anymore. Ran over. Thanks for watching. Have a great day! See you guys later.

the real issue with retail is the businesses dont pay their employees enough to actually put any effort in or care, and they dont get full time hours so they need to work 2 or 3 shit retail jobs just to make ends meet.

I work for a Big Box Home Improvement retailer, and I understand your frustration. We deal with mostly DIY customers on the weekends, and many of our experienced employees are scheduled to work during the "normal" work week. Good help is hard to find when the training is lacking, and the pay is LOW.

I have thought for several years that it’s a situation of bad pay at those auto parts stores. No one smiles, no one thinks we are even customers. Its like we are bothering them.

Parts stores hire minimum wage workers and now you get minimum wage service.

Try buying directly from the company who makes the product or ask for who sells there product to small business

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Christian Cooper says:

Your going to use up a lot of time cold call asking for parts that you need to various places and see who wants to actually help. I have a group of ppl I’ve become close to and they’re there when I’m looking for parts. When I make an inquiry on parts they probably sourced it from another store and have it waiting for me. I’ve spent hours even days trying to get a part with no luck it gets very very frustrating. PS: I will not deal with autozone, Oreiley, or major name brand parts houses check with local no name mom and pop stores they tend to know you by name and your not a number.

As once said during one of the Dirty Harry movies “we ain’t open – come back tommarra!” Try buying major equipment and set up accounts during the week

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Nicholls says:

To be fair over here in the UK you would not go and open an account like that on a Sunday. Monday morning would be your better bet. Keep up the great video's. R.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jon Silver says:

Don't let one negative day get you down, Sundays are robot days at any store and unfortunately are on minimum wage so only do the bare minimum. Its a shame that someone didn't want say "sorry sir I can't do that for you , but if I can take your phone number I will get the manager to call you tomorrow " . Long Jon.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mr2miach says:

Ray, you expected to have their A crew on a Sunday? Back when I worked for an auto parts chain store most shops weren't open on Sundays and our commercial guy worked M-F. Not to mention it took a manager to open the account and most weekend "managers" are barely trained on how to perform returns. You need to set your expectations to a proper level instead of blaming a year. BTW, it has been over 15 years since I worked in the auto parts store so this isn't anything even remotely new.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kenny Shepherd says:

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Skias Abhorsen says:

Wou this sound like bed joke 😐 as far as I remember here even normal kashir in stor know how to set this up or et list stis was something normal here in Slovenija.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jason K says:

I have to say while I understand the frustration . Expecting that kind of help on a Sunday is kinda crazy. Most places probably don't expect to have training people there on Sunday because they don't get enough business requests. Most repair shops I have ever dealt with are mon-fri with a few being open Sat morning.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars nzldbart says:

hang in there Ray, its always tuff at the start I found most of my parts suppliers would set up an account via email and with in a couple of days after doing the usual background checks we'd be good to go

buisuness is monday thru friday only get the sales workers on the weekend. your lack of understanding of the way things work is your problem

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Calendyr says:

Yep customer service died a long time ago. Now a day employes can't even reply hello when you greet them as a customer. Well, on the bright side, if you give good customer service, it should get noticed, so that is a great thing for you.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Thomson says:

Setting up your account at places is always going to be a fun experience. Doing it on a weekend with all the joys of having to deal with those who don't want to even be there is going to be even more fun. As for your need to get expensive workshop equipment might I suggest visits from company reps from the equipment vendors. You just need to appear on their radars and for that to happen a quick phone call to them should have them to you in no time. And as an added bonus you will be more likely to get those all important discounts that you are looking to procure for being a valued customer

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars gunga din says:

Welcome to the world of business. Filling in Credit applications, they will probably want C.O.D. until they are sure you can pay the bills.
Starting a business, Rule 1. Do not waste money, every penny counts. Rule 2. Minimise expenses (make do as your time is sort of free) Rule 3. Watch the CASH FLOW daily, forever!!! Rule 4. Unnecessary expenses matter e.g the JM3 oil filter wrench kit not necessary for now !!! Bet you do not read this comment!

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Staudacher says:

Ray just wait until you get the "if it's not in the computer it does not exist". I new the store owner and I went behind the counter to the old parts books and found what part number I needed and then the real fun began because the kid did not know how to search by part number

Hey Ray, if you want deals to happen on Sunday evening, it should be in a pub or a over a barbecue dinner, if you know the people in charge you need to meet with them outside of the office on a Sunday. Otherwise, go on a Wednesday afternoon when they are not busy.
    Good luck mate!

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeff G says:

You'll run into these hiccups along the way. I would imagine the State of Florida is better, but dealing with bureaucracies in California almost drove me to madness. Department A would not give a necessary permit until Department B issued a necessary license, but Dept B wouldn't issue the license without Dept A issuing the permit. What should have taken an afternoon took 3 months while I burned through cash wondering if I would survive to see my first customer…

If you haven't already, I would highly recommend seeking out a small business/entrepreneur meet-up group in your area (often sponsored by the chamber of commerce). Periodically meeting up with others over lunch or drinks can help you network & learn costly mistakes others' have made so you don't repeat them.

PS: when you are getting business accounts set up with dealerships, be sure to call around and price shop. My local Toyota dealer's "wholesale" price was more than Toyota's MSRP so I generally found it worthwhile to order big items from a dealer 30 miles away

Call corporate iyw too, they shouldn’t be rude. You just came in on a Sunday. Asm doesn’t have access to the customer acct portal anyway so don’t expect it. Once you set it up , you can still purchase under it too but no delivery on Sunday or sat after 3

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daryl Morgan says:

  51. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars NNA says:

    I keep hearing ‘O’Reilly Auto Parts’…

… might be a good place to go.

    (Just sayin’.)

For all the adverts they run on your channel, they ought to be able to do something for you.

Amazon lists a whole bunch of a/c servicing machines, including at least one that is fully automatic like the one at your previous place of employment.

Weekday manager may be able to direct you to a ‘corporate’ commercial account department rep. that can email you a ‘new account’ application form to fill out.

If haven’t already, gotta bit of paper work to do to set up a business account at your bank, along with heading over to county offices to obtain business license and to state set up a retail sales tax account.

Sometimes commercial account applications kinda require these things.

    Stay Well…

  52. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rob Peabo says:

    I care Ray.

  53. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TurboWindsor says:

    Hey Ray,
Find an “Auto Plus” part store. They are generally more “commercial” oriented parts place. I think there is one in Sarasota if that’s the area you are looking.

  54. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matthew Baken says:

This is exactly why they should get not one cent above minimum wage. Minimal work ethic + minimal courtesy + minimal effort + minimal skill =minimum wage.

  55. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danny Linc says:

Well, Ray, you can't get fillet mignon at Herfy's.
You need to talk to real automotive pro's.
If you were here, I would suggest APW. Granger, etc.
I don't know what they call it in Florida.
The people who do real stuff for real shops and sell real professional equipment don't work on Sunday.
You know this being a dealer tech in a past life.
And real refrigerant tanks require credentials now.
Hope you have your card for that cert.
Eric O was having a cow one Sunday when he tried to get a part by driving an hour to the next town.
He knows the real guys don't work on Sunday.
But he wrestled with it and somehow ended up with some sort of part that would suffice after two hours or so.
    There's a lesson there.
He wouldn't hurt the kid, but may have taught him a few things if I recall correctly.
He didn't take the camera in with him.
    Darn it.

  56. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Octavio Paredes says:

My sister in law works for an auto parts store and she said that they’ve lost big accounts from several shops in town due to the lack of customer service. She is the store manager and she’s tried very hard to keep them but the new employees have a way to mess it for them.

  57. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rick Reynolds Adventures says:

I happen to have looked up a Robinair A/C recovery machine off Amazon when I was looking into starting a mobile mechanic business, it's still on there just a quick search and it's prime delivered! May not be the same as the one you are used to but similar enough, Snap On has one if you want to be fancy like that.

  62. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J C says:

Welcome to the world of the ordinary consumer. The typical employee is NOT EMPOWERED to make independent decisions, and this is truer still for "chain stores".

  63. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John G. says:

unfortunately it's not the staffs fault, it's usually management, 99.999% of the time they really don't want staff knowing or thinking about things outside of what they are supposed to be doing. and yes staff can be reprimanded for doing things that is not their job, also working in an "at will" employment basis really isn't conducive to doing things that is better for the customer and the business when you have to stroke the egos of those above you to keep your job.

  64. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Camel Garage says:

Some of the people working behind those counters are part time and don’t give a damn about selling as they don’t see a dime to do so. It sucks but now you know who to watch out for, the full timers and MOD’s are more geared towards commercial clients no matter where you go. When delivered parts I made sure to learn stuff like that or at least make the effort to steer the person in the right direction at least.

  68. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Cesar Martinez says:

As a former autozone gray shirt, and an advance comercial parts pro… 🤣 you need to get a hold of the commercial/regional manager and they would help you out, either way they shouldve at least handed you an application for the account, it basically asks if you are doing monthly, weekly, or cash on delivery. If you are tax exempt stuff like that, oreillys is pretty good on deals, autozone you are able to bargain your comercial supplier for a better price, and advance has world pac, which is pretty handy when you need german parts. And on the robin's why dont you get them thru the snap on truck? Even cornwell has a robin air pretty affordable, doesnt have the auto mode but you can do recover vaccum and recharge easily. Glwyp!

  73. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mitch Schwanke says:

No matter where I started out at any job over the years and on any day of the week, I made it a point to learn as much as I could so if it became necessary to help out a client, I could and that client would leave happy. If any client walked away unhappy again I would call them up and do whatever I could to change their minds about our business. What people are saying here on this platform about it was Sunday is just total BS. Ray is right, these people just don't work one day a week and probably have a different mindset whenever management is around. To turn down a big sale is employees being lazy because that kind of sale just means more work and possibly a line of customers building up that an employee doesn't want to do on a Sunday. However Ray didn't mention how many employee were in the store unless I missed, if there was just one then that employee probably wouldn't have time to fill out any kind of commercial contract wether or not he or she had the knowledge. In that retrospect Ray just needs to be a little patient. Plus he pointed out the time on his way home and that employee might have wanted to go home. Ray, I can recall many times in your videos that were inclined not to do any work after a certain time because your shift was almost done and you wanted to go home. I always had the mindset if somebody walked into any of the jobs I've ever had right before closing I would help them out until I was done with the join. Of course I would lock up the doors at closing time so I wouldn't end up working all night but customer service was always a major point with me.

When I worked at a shop with just me and the owner, the account managers came to our shop and talk it over and set up the accounts. I wouldn’t expect anyone who can set up business accounts to be working on a weekend. It’s great though once you have them. We had oreilly, advanced, autozone and a company who sold ac delco parts. The one who sold delco came in, set us up with a filter rack and an assortment of oil filters to keep in the shop and we just ordered them as we needed more. Essentially shopped for all the parts online and rarely actually needed to call the stores for anything which was super nice.

Sundays are for BBQs, Ray 😉

  81. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars loud Noise says:

If the employees are not trained it isn't their fault, it is the fault of the owner. Not knowing how to set up a merchant account is a good example. Anyone can be trained to do this since it is a matter of forms, the person you were talking to won't be authorized to grant it. Someone else will or won't depending on what is learned from the application. Be frustrated at how badly the owner is managing the situation, not at the employee who wasn't taught how to do something and can't offer a clue about how to do something simply because they don't know.

Also, trying to get a discount on the promise that you will be spending $15,000 while dealing with someone behind a counter on a Sunday is silly. There is no way anyone there on a Sunday is going to be authorized to accept such a deal.

Always call and ask for commercial mgrs. plus yeah Ray you are right it’s Sunday those guys are usually off. Tomorrow boom another day get things done man . See you on your next video.

Service in parts stores has gone down hill and covid had nothing to with it. McDonald's pays more now than most parts stores do,its sad and your getting folks who work there wigh out much knowledge about the business.

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Repete Myname says:

Strange days were living in. Never heard of customer service on this level, especially the guy who didnt want to sell you a high end tool worth 5K.

  85. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars StackableGold says:

Ray, one of the bigger issues is coming into businesses on a Sunday, a lot of the upper management at locations aren't there on Sundays and to be honest, most if not all front-end non-management (especially/specifically cashiers) employees aren't responsible for setting such accounts up and in fact probably don't even have the ability to do so, or if they do aren't trained in it. My store has it, but I don't have the privileges to set one up.

There is also stuff that customers encounter and come in on Sundays but can't help them because the people responsible that have the ability to do what they need aren't working Sundays. While there are people that do want to help, there is also those that aren't getting paid enough and don't see it worth their time. Both people may or may not be able to do what needs to be done.

Don't let it get you down, you got this.

  86. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars wdrobby says:

Probably because minimum wage employees aren't interested in padding their bosses pocket. There's probably standards how fast they can get people out of the store, not how much they can sell.

This is normal running your own business. Why do you think it's called "busy ness"? Yup.

Lots of hand waving in your vid. You must be pissed! (Frustrated!)

    Grettings from the UK 👍🏻😀🇬🇧

  88. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Allan Sutton says:

Because you were on a Sunday. Managers – the people with brains who make decisions – don’t work weekends, that’s what they have brainless grunts for.

  89. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Thor Velasco says:

Do not blame the person behind the counter. It's the Culture of the Corporation of those establisments you visited. The Corporation has no interest investing time and or MONEY to train someone in the Mystic Arts of establishing excellent customer service. There are no atta boys, or pats on the back or the high and low fives from peers in the store for providing excellent service.

  90. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Masterglaizer says:

It is not just parts houses.
It seems that this kind of thing is happening injust about all of the retail sales sector. You can't seem to get a burger right unless it is directly off of the menu. Ppl in home depot are generally clueless. And it seems like most of these effen kids are 2 busy on their phones to learn anything!!!

  91. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Adrian Osler says:

Ahh America has joined 21st century customer service at last welcome tonthe real world you're gonna hate it

  92. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jasper says:

Ray…. Sunday just isn’t the time to do that. I know it’s frustrating but few, if any, businesses will have a commercial business rep on site. There are probably a few steps that are required that can only be accomplished M – F. Hang in there and don’t get defeated. You’ll be fine.

  93. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kenny Scott says:

Hey man I would just call each part store that you went to and call each of there corporate offices and complain to them and you might actually get a discount or at least a better deal

  94. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joop Jansen says:

Could it be that you setting up your own shop (and being the dedicated mechanic that you are) brought these 'box shovers' and junior sales persons onto your path? They've probably always been there (with their lousy attitude – they can't help themselves) but now you're in a position you have to deal with them directly. They're the same kind of persons you found beef with in your previous workplaces. I don't know about the last one, but the ones before you mentioned the same kind of attitude/inaptitude.
Don't get me wrong: you are right to expect a fair bit more than you were given. After all, you're willing to commit to some major investments and parting with real cash.
Sunday crews often are just skeleton crews…

  95. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jared Smith says:

I would check back on monday, When the normal crew is in… weekends are usually underpaid teenagers trying to scrape a few dollars together to buy the latest Call of Duty title…or drugs.

Ray, I know exactly how you feel. Sunday is my only off day and I wanted to change my oil today. I went to my local auto parts place and the part-time cashier behind the counter spent ten minutes talking to some guy that was trying to barter with him about a bunch of machinery or some such. I got tired of holding the case of oil and filter so I just pushed ahead and set it on the counter. The cashier finally rung up my order and I got out of there. When I left, that guy was still there talking about R32 something or other. LOL. Just kidding, Ray! Welcome to the bidness world.

  97. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Derek Hobbs says:

I had names and numbers of various supplier contacts in my toolbox that I took with me when laid off. Handy to have.
