Hey I'm back one more time. I Uh I think I found that fuel leak I think I did see if I can't get a light in there. Watch this Right here Here it is. I Believe this is it.

it's gonna be. Hang on, Fellas bear with me. What we're gonna look for right back here behind that hose. See that right there.

Look at this fitting right here. Watch this. Look at that loose loose fitting. Let's see if I can't tighten that guy back up.

Foreign. that was. Uh, that's where the leak's at. So I couldn't see it.

it was buried and I couldn't see it without the fender well being removed. Yeah I still can't get to that fitting. Hang on. Oh, we need a different wrench.

I need a multi-angular 19 millimeter wrench? It's Gonna Be Where Are You wrench. uh 19. that one multi-angular this won't reach in there. Uh, nothing in my Arsenal will.

The problem is there's this this hose in the way I can't get on this thing I just need a couple little turns out of it. Nothing major. Quite annoying downtown by myself. Where I got a copyright strike? Come on.

I can't get the tool on it anymore. There's no more, no more space to maneuver. Do I need to take things apart to get to this? Come on there we go. I'm on it now.

Can you see? hey, that's it. Hey fuel line click all right now we're good. Problem solved. That should be the fuel leak.

Well you know, since I don't want to make a liar out of myself and since I did fix the fuel leak and I said I was going to change the filter when I fixed the leak, let's just go ahead and change the filter. It's really easy. You take the filter off, you put the filter on. Some of these systems have like a like a primer valve up here.

You'd unscrew the thing and then you'd Pump It Up This one since it's got a lift pump does not require a primer. Hey I'm going to click these I don't know if this has ever been changed before, may not have I think they bought this truck once and just drove it. Ah, it's leaking fuel. Leaking diesel.

That was like diesel. It wasn't leaking, it's leaking deep diesel last week when we drove it and then we picked it up today and now it's leaking there. We go that out of here. So I just went ahead and dumped all that fuel into the parts washer.

There's really no need to uh to waste it. Contamination: Slide this guy on in right now. Foreign. Let's see if uh, if I can't get the strap wrench in here I may need to get the smaller one I Don't like to use the the plier style wrenches because they can.

uh, they can Dent or they will dent the surface of the filter. can cause uh, leakages and breakages later. everything. Now the cat points at us.

That's good. Come out. Thank you.

Now would have been a great time to have some cheaper wrenches you could grind down to fit in that spot between those lines.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ralph Adams says:

Don't stick on mty dry,add fuel or Howes, top off before ,sometimes it won't catch on,or you suck inside of filter together, just saying better safe than sorry, plus sometimes hand pump can fail, while pumping it up

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mandurath says:

Always had a soft spot for these trucks. Had a GMC Topkick a long time ago, It wasn't pretty, it wasn't comfortable, but it was reliable. Cat was really proud of the parts and priced them accordingly. An old mechanic at the shop we used had an issue getting some parts from CAT, said it would be at least a week. We needed the truck, so he removed the metal fuel lines that had cracked. He installed some, I think they were hydraulic lines, custom made at a local forklift shop that made hydraulic lines to order. Just used the fittings off the CAT metal lines with the rubber high pressure hoses. Did alot of "custom" fixes like that to it over the years. Had around 500k on it when it was traded (given) to a farmer to haul hay bales.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ralfie says:

That filter will never come off without a 3” wide band wrench and an 8 foot cheater pipe! CAT diesels have enough vibration that the filters tend to get tighter instead of loosening.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 80’s Ford Guy says:

There looks to be quite a bit of blowby gases coming out of the crankcase vent hose just under the fuel filter Ray. It might be something to measure with a WC/in-Hg Gauge and a flow orifice fitting from CAT or Cummins. They both sell the blowby orifice fitting and all you need is the in-Hg gauge and short 6ft or less length hose. Also, clean the crankcase primary mesh filter screen with your favorite spray cleaner and if it’s equipped with it replace the filter element then test the blowby.
