Ok I don't feel so bad as I too have difficulty,at times, with the stinken shock eyelet when its a bit cantiwampis
DAMN!!!! My 2008 Chrysler T&C has more miles.
Nice and “shiny “
What’s going to happen to auto Mechanics when Internal Combustion Engines are no longer legal and everybody goes electric. ?
Easier with a lift right?
That’s what always sucks about trying to find time to fix our own cars & make hours at the same time
I'm a very big fan of Bilsteins, I've had mixed results with KYBs, KYBs on a previous car were quite good, KYBs on my 3/4ton, just adequate. Bilsteins significantly better all around. Only vehicle I've had any experience with FOX shocks, were their high performance off road variety, so rather hard to judge their on road behavior when they are designed for off road style….I will agree that they are definitely better than Ranchos.
My litmus test for shocks are some of the older brick/paver roads. Old shocks, it was just a bounce fest. The KYBs on my truck, felt much more stable, but it just felt a little like floating as the steering wanted to wander more like steering a boat for lack of a better comparison, the Bilsteins…significant improvement in both handling and comfort….still a brick road, but it felt like things were staying connected without being overly harsh. The worst part in my case, was the price difference between the two at the time was maybe $20/ea.
Wonder how the A/C issue worked out on the max
made the same mistake. bought some rancho. rs9000 for a lifted f150. felt okay for a few mounth's then tried pulling a load and felt like i had no shocks. quickly bought a new set of bilstien 5100 shocks much better quality.
Will they fit my 92 Silverado k2500?
if so, hell yeah I will take them
You should have gone with Bilstein shocks
Lol I've had three sets of different ranchos on a ram, tahoe and silvery rado and no issues so far. I run bags with the rado tho.
As an Abarth 500 driver and a fellow FL resident…. I can say I've never been throwing wakes. Thank goodness. Might flood something! 😀
Rain-X is your friend!
Nicely done 👌
Ray got a lil sensitive with the OSHA question
Typical.. Customer declines service! LOL
On a side note, I was confident you know what you're doing and didn't realize monotube shocks can be installed upside down.. I had to look that up.
Laying down on the ground working on your vehicle sucks that's what a lot of us have to do welcome to our world RAY. I still disagree with spaying cold water on a warm engine nice way to cause damage. My two things I disagree with what you do otherwise I think you do good work. I don't think Ray will respond to this comment but something I had to say.
have a1995 need new ones
No Ray, the Rancho's are crap. I used to make them.
I'll take that Crown Victoria.
Rancho are crap they put them on the newer Chevys and fords and the tires are cupped within 30k miles straight trash
That’s a Good idea for shirts
“Mind your own Business & Go Away”😂
I love rancho flavored chips!
You will really like the fox shocks.
I about lost it when you said "nut gravity." 😂🤣
Time to do some sketchy shit do da do da Hope I'm going to get away with it oh the do da day
Why did you put the shockie shaft pointing down wont the dirt dirt stuff up the shafts. The old ones had the shaft up and they were covered Monty from Australia
Arent your shocks upside down?
I hate these DirtyMaxs, take up to much parking spaces and driving lanes, mist drivers dont take in to account of the dial tyres and body at the rear. Almost got run over by the rear wheels when some guy pulled out from a parking space.
If anything, Eric O made a toodooddoo comment on one of his newest videos lol
The water pump on a Chevy.
why is there what appears to be a 2 inch ball hitch on the underside of the box? that seems an odd place for one.
Ha ha! "Nut Gravity", is'nt that what happens to old men!
These things are super easy to change. Just a single bolt fused to everything it passes through… Angle grinder!
Like my Ray stay safe but where is your Safety Jack?
Sneaky song in the background.
Fleet model for shocks and add some air bags
As the saying goes plumbers pipes be leaking so shall mechanics vehicles. Everyone in their perspective trade rarely has time to repair their own.
That reminds me i need to replace the shocks on my 85 Silverado
UNDO BOTH SIDES ON LINKS AT SAME TIME…YOU WONT NEED PRYBAR
I just changed my sway bar links too, but I called a buddy for the 3rd hand.
SEE YOU NEED CV BOOT AND SIGNS OF INNER TIEROD MOVEMENT…NICE JOB!!..THEY LOOK LIKE A GOOD SHOCK…HOPE THEY STAND UP..
really wished the sway bar links for sonoma worked like that, they have a regular nut at the end. so unless you can compress the bushings first there isnt enough thread to really start the nut
In the words of Jared Pink, "Always make questionable choses."
I could see the difference between the two different shocks in the push test also the quicker return. I was taught never second guess your first intuition about something. Everytime I do it is the wrong one.
Is that a trailer hitch ball under the bed of your truck? WTH? 🤷🏼♂️
His thumb is blue, “so you know it’s good!”
Great looking shocks, may have to put some on my Sierra, btw,,they couldn't have made the front shock fit the factory mount on the lower control arm?? wth ? Still nice shocks, and another great video.
Maybe I’m just old, but I would have chocked the front tires before jacking the rear. Learned that the hard way with tractor work.
sunlight dish soap works better on windshields than wiper fluid in warm to intermedeat climats
Why the trailer ball underneath the bed?
It's funny to see the make shift bandage. My dad was an autobody tech and I remember him also coming home with the same and back to work the same day. Just don't do the same he did of risking health to a paycheck. Career days will be numbered if you do. Mgmt will be your next job to continue.
Ray had mentioned body roll last time. This will help with that. Good final choice there Ray.
I like the mileage just hit 355 000 on 6 liter ls
Mechanic states: cracked ball joint boots and control arm bushings, passenger side front axle boot leaks… customer declined service.. LOL. Classic and also relatable.
Washing the fence in the rain
Dang – no fresh grease visible on front grease gun fittings? I think you admitted that your front end steering assembly needs overhauled, along with the brakes. Can't wait for at video.
I would also have a stand jaak to back up the floor jack.
Ray! Is that a gooseneck ball joint under there were you were removing the second shock from the rear?
Ray – how much rust is holding your trailer ball in place at your truck bed? Can you explain what's going on under the bed to haul your trailer? Sketchy lookin', dude. Did you replace your carrier bearing on the drive shaft?
"That's the problem with this country…Now go away" And don't forget to have yourself a nice day.
I chucked a set of Monroe Load Adjusters on my own work truck. Only a half ton, but the added capability when hauling REALLY heavy loads, not to mention the off road traction while in the back country is great.
Was I seeing things, or did you have a ball hitch under the bed of the truck. On one of the cross beams??
I wish I would have put Fox shocks on my Jeep when I lifted it. My 2014 Silverado z/71 is in need of new shocks but really can’t justify the cost of Fox as I’m thinking of dreading it off…
What's going on with project Armageddon I see it backed in the parking lot over there
Looks like you enjoy Mt. Dew, dew, dewdy, dew.
I have never pronounced Knipex as Knipex I always pronounce Knipex as Knipex.
I am using Monroe Reflex shocks on my '02 Ford Excursion 7.3L, towed a big trailer with a Kubota tractor on it from Utah to Oklahoma through the Colorado mountains, no bad issues at all. Cortez, Durango, Pagosa Springs, Taos NM to Clayton NM to Tulsa OK
I wish you would put a jack stand under it before you crawl under with just a floor jack holding it up. Basic safety for all of us home garage floor mechanics who don't have a lift.
That’s a nice lbz
What the hell is that, no brake cleaner in the video? I'm unsubing. 😂 J/K. Stay dry my friend.
Can I get the old rancho shocks?
Low mileage for any diesel engine, and not surprised it's not sponsored. It's your personal vehicle. Now, give us something worth watching the video for, as it deepens your pockets. You are, after all, posting this video for your own monetary gain. Therefore one question remains unanswered: Is your employer profiting from these videos, or is he/she losing money by allowing you to repair/replace parts on company time/equipment/tools?
I’m a huge fan of the bilstein 5100 series.
Thanks!
I'm not a mechanic mechanic (just a DIY'er mechanic) and was wondering why Ray flipped the shocks. The Rancho's on the rear he had on there had the rod up near the top and the piston/barrel at the bottom. When he put in the Fox ones he put the piston/barrel at the top and the rod side at the bottom. Logically thinking, I don't see why it would matter which way they're installed, but was wondering why he flipped them??
the fox will ride a bit firmer than the shit ranchos. some people like the marsh mellow ride of stit shocks tho.
Bilstein makes a better shock yet! I carry over 1 ton with my salter & wore out Rancho’s in 49k ? Good vid.!
GReat Harbor Freight Hitch. Love ours from there.
I use nothing but Fox and Bilstein!!
😂 your comments are the best
that bars on front is illegal,as it blocks headlights and horiz beam pattern..and blinkers. and when bumpers where crash tested it didn't have them on…
i wounder what rays emotional side would look like?….this is coming from a emotional guy that is myself
Question for you Ray. I'm looking at getting a used truck, crew cab and 4WD, from about the 2000's to 2010's era. Hauling stuff mostly and transporting my two kids as well. Based on your experience with a vast variety of truck repairs, what would you recommend in that time frame that isn't normally a rustbucket or overall turd?
You should pull an Eric O & spray those surface rust areas with Fluid Film to help protect it. Also for your windshield you should apple Aquapel since it rains a lot down in FL you will love it & it will last around 6 months.
Too funny, My replacement shocks arrive from Rock Auto tomorrow. New shocks on my pickup!
Phone? Phone???!!! How dare you defile the sanctity of the doodley-doos!!
What shop dose this man work at ?
Second one always goes quicker
Factory to Bilstein to Fox to KING. Kings are 2.5 with remote reservoirs, they weren’t cheap but they make my Ram 2500 ride superior.
