In todays video I have a look at a 2015 Wrangler that was dropped off from another shop that was having as hard time figuring out why the cooling fans did not work. The fan and TIPM had already been replaced and it still doesn't work! Let's see what the issue is.

2015 Jeep It's a Little Wrangler and it's got some issues here. We're super sick today so we're going to try to get through this least for a long day when you don't feel good. I'll tell you that let's see 111,000 Money Light was on when I brought it in, had a shop drop it off over the weekend. Today's a Monday and apparently the fans don't work.
They put a tip them in it. Oops. Lch doesn't work here. Let me get the hood up so they, uh, they put a tip them.
INE I Guess the fans still don't work. My connector looks pretty new so it must be. It's got a new fan in it too. This must be a new set of fans's opened up here.
New fans who tip them. So now I guess we got to figure out what's wrong with it and see why the fans don't work. and apparently that's why the engine light's on. they told me.
so we'll find out here. Feel like Katy Perry I'm hot and I'm cold all the same time. What do we want? Report: I guess is what we need. Let's see.
Yeah, this is what he told me here. All right. So this implausible ECU Network configuration. That's because when they put the tip them in, they never did a vehicle configuration restore cooling fan 2 circuit low so 693 and Po 480.
So if we clear the codes, all those stored codes will go away. Um, that's interesting. Okay, well that's just they want the cool and fan fix. Let's look at that before we even get into service data.
Let's just jump into uh, the engine control controller I'm Let's just make sure the fans don't work. We'll go into a active tests or where they got here. Maybe system check, special functions? We'll find it here. We'll find the cooling fans, we'll try to turn them on and uh, kind of go from there I Don't see him right there I don't see them there I think it is active test.
Let's see radiator, condenser, cooling fan relay one. Now we just want to click it on. It's like the function is not sported by the ECU Good. Let me keep poking here see if we can.
All right that. I Heard kick on the tip them don't hear the fan roaring. So all right, let me get a wiring diagram before we get too far. With that, let's just see.
uh I it's only three wires. You have a power and the ground on these guys. Oops, it's a 4 amp test light. All right.
All right. So it looks like we've got good. you know, good power and ground. Um, cuz it, this appears to be made out of the cheapest Chinesium, so it's probably some junk aftermarket fan.
Let's check our uh oh, the other wire there. it's probably a duty cycle controlled there. we going, Need that scope on the Rope This little guy here walk this up to battery ground some all right. Two volts per rision.
Let's make sure we've got good connection here. Prob yeah. Power So we got power there so we're probing in the control side here. We got nothing right now.
they still got nothing I Thought these are usually uh, grounds side switched should be just a single wire from the tip them. Let me just make sure we don't have a bad connection will come in this side of it. Let me just turn on. Maybe? Yeah, no, cuz I think the power comes from the uh from the fan, right? Yeah, cuz if it's ground side switched. if this, if this duty cycle signal switches to ground, then it has to receive power from yeah I Don't think it's a bad connection from the module from the fan. I It's probably just a junk fan aftermarket crap. I Got a test light here Let's uh, we'll check it this way. we'll hook on.
get some battery power here. Okay, all right so now we've got oops. we've got 12 Vols here. I'll try to hold that in there.
We'll go back in here. I Just freaking want to go home, see if, see if we got. Oh look at that. we got a blinky light now.
Oh here comes the fan. so let's ramp her down to 20% There's that I got get this where you guys can see it. Let's see that's it's fun when you don't feel good. go 80% Oh she getting wound up Now boys, there's 100% You're going to lift off here in a minute.
Easy easy. We're back up. All right. All right, that's it.
Shows over. Let's go home. We can't cuz it's still too early in the morning. Needs a fan? You guys have a great day.
Let me call this shop and tell them that they need to put a fan in it. Wow, that an expected guess huh? Tip them I'm third shot to look at it All right. Ju Just For letting you guys know, here's the I like up, put a diagram for you. Here's the cooling fan.
Here's a cooling fan motor. Okay, so right down behind the radiator you got your big Power and your big grounds. We checked those. then this is that little wire coming out of there.
The power on this wire should be provided by the cooling fan module if you will and then that wire comes up and goes to the radiator fan control here on the tipm and then that uses a duty cycle control, pulls it to ground at different pulse widths to, uh, change the speed of it and you can see that we had no power coming out. But obviously the uh, the tipm is in good shape so so that's it. It needs A It needs a new fan because there's no power coming out on it all right. When we provided it with power, it worked.
So that tells us the tip's good and F's bad. Hi fol. that's it. Fixing your Jeep fan don't work? Uh, three wire power Ground Control You got to have power coming out of that fan motor or it ain't going to work.
Or if you got power coming out and it's not getting pulled to ground either, you got a broken wire or uh you know, bad. tip them there. So it thrown a code for open circuit because the tipm expects to see 12 volts. you know Keon engine off, fan off.
It wants to see 12 volts but it didn't So there you go. Comments: Cut you out.

I feel for ya Eric. Being sick can cloud the mind but sometimes we just kinda go into a full blown diagnostic robot mode, duty bound. So no humor, no nonsense, point A to B and then leave me alone! LOL! Ironically I just did a fan on a Challenger that was new, but inop right outta the box. The OE just plain ol burned out. The aftermarket was open circuit, brand new! Got 1 from the stealer which was $$ but fixed it. No parts cannon TIPM 😉

learned something new! didn't know the fan provides the power on the control side! could i just switched the ground feed of the scope to power and get the same result as backfeeding the fan/control side circuit?

Well, that 3.6 v6, may have another 30,000 miles, before the heads Crack. Regardless of proper cooling. They, all crack.

My tail of who. 25th Nov fell backwards down stairs 3 days in hospital found fracture of L1 vertebrae also shadow on left kidney, a few days back at home. off for another scan 210th Dec. scan shows tumor on left kidney, surgery booked 21st Dec, have had kidney removed. back at home now so just slowly slowly. I am Recovering well. Thank heavens for youtube

Work in pluming at Lowe’s . I use Eric’s new does not mean good all the time. When working with contractors we would call them Monday morning parts. Some one on the line would put it together hung over, and quality control was in no better shape

Going on week 3 of the crud. I started out same as you. Doctor said it just has to run its course. It's one of those " hurry up an be finished already" bugs. I cones quickly, but doesn't go quickly.

Shop took the Jeep back and replaced the "new" fan with another new fan and all is well. We made the right call. Remember folks, "new" does not always mean "good."
